An Old Ghost Story: The Turn of the Screw (Part 5)

It is once again spooky time! This time it's more... creepy? Like, little kid acting creepy. YEP! Little dear Miles is seemingly possessed? Follow me into this spooky reading of Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw!" Good evening friends, fiends, and night owl supremes! Welcome back for more of the Story behind "The Haunting of Bly Manor" - "The Turn of the Screw" Part 5 (Chapters 12, 13, and 14!) the governess was falling deeper and deeper into her obsession with finding out what was happening at Bly, trying to puzzle out how to solve it, and at the same time trying NOT to let the children know that she knew. Again. Yes, more of that song and dance. Mrs. Grose suggests the governess write to the children’s Uncle in Harley street, but both decide that course of action unwise. There is a lull where the governess looks for specters around every corner, and sees nothing, although she knows the whole time Miss Jessel and Peter Quint are always appearing and interacting with Flora and Miles. She feels like she can’t say anything to tip her hand still. STILL. Anyway, on the way to church, Miles starts acting… odd. Too smooth for a little kid. It’s awkward and uncomfortable, and the governess tis to evade his line of questioning and laugh and smooth the whole thing over… but SOMETHING is WRONG. Tonight is Part 5, or chapters 12, 13, and 14, so we’ll hopefully encounter many more ghostly things that go bump in the night! Mwahahaha. This tale, Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw," is read in a soft voice and set to some light and eerie background music. I do hope you enjoy this evening's ghost story story! Tonight's Story Behind Bly Manor Part 5 is from the following chapters: The Turn of the Screw, Chapter 12: 1:49 The Turn of the Screw, Chapter 13: 9:12 The Turn of the Screw, Chapter 14: 22:44 "Blue Feather, Reaching Out, Floating Cities" Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com) Licensed under Creative Commons: By Attribution 4.0 License creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ This tale, "The Turn of the Screw" by Henry James, is now in public domain. An Old Ghost Story: The Turn of the Screw (Part 4)

Ready for more ghostly and unsettling encounters? Me too! Follow me into this spooky reading of Henry James' "The Turn of the Screw!" Good evening friends, fiends, and night owl supremes! Welcome back for more of the Story behind "The Haunting of Bly Manor" - "The Turn of the Screw" Part 4 (Chapters 9, 10, and 11!) FINALLY things are starting to get more actively spooky! The governess has a super late night encounter with the dreaded Peter Quint - this time on the stairs in the small hours of the morning. Little Flora has started acting strange - staring out of her bedroom window. When the governess catches her at this a second time, she also sees little Miles outside on the grounds, staring at something above the governess. She rushes him inside and wants to get the truth at last out of him as to what has been going on, but he lies, says it was all a joke. SHE doesn't want them to know she knows what they know, and accepts this. Why, I don’t know? Something about not falling into traps? Does that matter when there are supernatural malevolent forces about, really? Ah, whatever. Tonight is Part 5, or chapters 12, 13, and 14, so we’ll hopefully encounter many more ghostly things that go bump in the night! Mwahahaha. A Very Disturbing Fairytale: Sun, Moon, and Talia (The Creepy Sleeping Beauty)

Got too much on your mind? Need a familiar story to just breathe to? Well I'm not sure this is the fairy tale for that, but hey, we're reading it together! Join me for tonight's Sleeping Beauty's Origin Story of sorts - we travel back to Giambattista Basile's tale of "Sun, Moon, and Talia" which is creepy in it's old creepy old man king way. Of course. Why would we expect anything else? Ah well. There is also two little fairy babies (which I'm pretty sure where ah... something else in the original) and a jealous queen who makes her husband and sun eat these children (kinda) after cooking them into so many dishes. A whole lot happens, and while it's not a traditional "Happily Ever After" (or maybe it is because this is a traditional tale?) it's interesting for sure! NOT a Disney Princess Aurora Sleeping Beauty happily ever after. This tale, Giambattista Basile's "Sun, Moon, and Talia" is read in a soft voice and set to some light and soft background music. I do hope you enjoy the this evening's fairytale storytelling!
