When the old system no longer fits | Burnout, education & becoming someone new | Bettina Tornatora

In this episode of the Bee Formless™ Flow Driven CEO Podcast, I connected with Bettina Tornatora, entrepreneur, coach and Program Leader at the Scotland College of Chiropractic, and somewhere between education, burnout, identity and challenging systems that no longer fit, we arrived at something neither of us can unsee once we have lived it: “There is no back to the way it was.” After more than 25 years in entrepreneurship and coaching, Bettina moved from Melbourne to Barcelona to step into education, entered a role she describes as almost impossible and reached the point where she could no longer tell whether she needed rest or whether the environment itself was asking her to leave. Rather than decide from exhaustion, she created space, stepped into what she calls a spiritual container and gave herself a month to listen. Walking away wasn't failure. The form no longer fitted. She didn't reject education because one experience had broken her open. She returned differently, completed a Master's in Education and is now helping develop Scotland's first undergraduate chiropractic degree while staying close to practice and coaching to understand what future practitioners will face. That opened a bigger conversation about systems that can be broken without knowing they are broken, resistance to challenging inherited models, and how easily those trying to create change can be consumed by what they are trying to reshape. Bettina said something that applies far beyond education: “I'm working and I am giving, but I'm not sacrificing.” We also moved into the parts of burnout and transformation that can be polished away once someone reaches the other side: wondering whether we will feel like ourselves again, wanting to rebuild the life we had before, and realising that after certain experiences, that person may no longer exist. THE SHAPE SHIFT IN MOTION What if progress begins when we stop trying to return to an old form and listen for what the next one requires? LEARN (LETTING GO) ✨ Let go of expecting recovery to mean becoming who you were before. ✨ Release the need to fight every part of a system. ✨ Notice when giving becomes sacrificing. The power of women backing themselves | Trust, visibility & long-term success | Vandana Tolani

In this episode of the Bee Formless™ Flow Driven CEO Podcast, I connected with Vandana Tolani, Founder and CEO of Convanto, whose career spans investment, family offices and advising hundreds of founders. Yet our conversation quickly went somewhere more personal: the period when Vandana didn't recognise her own talent. After closing deals and receiving recognition for her work, she remembers sitting by the window in her office and realising the capability had been there all along. What had been clouding it was self-doubt, criticism and the noise around her. Once she began trusting what she could do and filtering out that noise, something shifted. Trust became a thread through our whole conversation: the trust we place in ourselves and our decisions, the trust a founder asks an investor to place in them, and the trust that has allowed Vandana to grow Convanto through relationships, referrals and showing up for clients beyond a transaction. We explored why she sees the founder-investor relationship almost like a marriage, why capital needs shared expectations and integrity, and why founders need to understand who they are approaching and whether their business is genuinely ready for investment. For women, our conversation moved into visibility, decision-making and backing ourselves. Vandana spoke about the progress she sees alongside the gaps that remain in boardrooms and positions of genuine influence, and why women recognising their skills, making their own decisions and allowing themselves to be seen matters. Towards the end, Vandana shared the metaphor of a bamboo tree. For years, very little may appear above the surface while underneath, the roots are becoming strong enough to support what eventually emerges. I loved this as a reminder of how easily we compare our progress with somebody else's, when so much of building a business, reputation or ourselves happens before anyone else can see it. THE SHAPE SHIFT IN MOTION What becomes possible when we trust what we're building before the results are visible? LEARN (LETTING GO) ✨ Let go of the noise that makes us question our capability. ✨ Release comparison with somebody else's visible success. ✨ Stop assuming every investor or opportunity is the right fit. UNLEARN (CREATE, REIMAGINE & RESHAPE) ✨ Reimagine fundraising as a relationship, not a transaction. ✨ Build visibility around who you are and what you stand for. ✨ Reshape success around trust, consistency and long-term value. RELEARN (TEST & IMPLEMENT) ✨ Prepare the business before asking investors to back it. ✨ Keep showing up while the roots are still forming. ✨ Build relationships that can grow beyond a single deal. ACTIVE RECOVERY (REFLECT & RESET) ✨ Where are you still questioning your capability? ✨ What are you building beneath the surface? ✨ Whose noise are you ready to stop carrying? The longevity reset | L-Nutra, food as medicine & the science of regeneration | Dr. Joseph Antoun

In this episode of the Bee Formless™ Flow Driven CEO Podcast, I connected with Dr. Joseph Antoun, Chairman and CEO of L-Nutra, for a conversation that challenged some of what we have come to accept about ageing, from declining health to the way we eat, work and keep asking our bodies to perform without creating much space for regeneration. Joseph has spent decades at the intersection of medicine, nutrition and longevity, with much of his work beginning from something woven into the rhythm of our lives: food. We consume it several times a day, yet rarely consider what could change if we saw it not only as fuel, pleasure or calories, but as an asset for longevity. We explored L-Nutra and ProLon, biological age, fasting-mimicking nutrition, intermittent versus prolonged fasting and why Joseph believes periods of fasting can create an opportunity for repair and renewal. He kept returning to the analogy of a racing car, which I loved because however powerful the car, we would never expect it to race indefinitely without coming into the pits to check what is wearing down, make repairs and prepare for what comes next. It had me think about how rarely we apply the same logic to ourselves when constant consumption, stimulation, optimisation and output have become the norm.. Our conversation didn't stay with the body, Joseph sees nutrition, movement, stress, sleep, community and purpose as interconnected parts of longevity, taking us into loneliness, technology and the possibility that AI could return something increasingly precious: time. Do we use those hours to produce even more, or return some of that space to creativity, connection, contribution and the people we love? Joseph's dad gave him a philosophy that brought so much of this together: “We were born on this planet not to be a doctor, not to be whatever.” Beneath the science and ambition of L-Nutra, this became a conversation about more than extending life; it was also about staying well enough to experience it and remembering what we want all that extra time to be for. THE SHAPE SHIFT IN MOTION What if longevity also asks us to create space for renewal? LEARN (LETTING GO) ✨ Let go of accepting declining health as simply part of ageing. ✨ Question food as only fuel, calories or weight management. ✨ Release the need to turn every hour saved into more output. UNLEARN (CREATE, REIMAGINE & RESHAPE) ✨ Reimagine longevity as more than adding years. ✨ Reshape food, fasting and regeneration as a wider system. ✨ Bring community, purpose and happiness into living well. RELEARN (TEST & IMPLEMENT) ✨ Be intentional about what we eat, when we eat and how we move. ✨ Create boundaries around work and space for people who matter. ✨ See sleep, stress, connection and recovery as interconnected. ACTIVE RECOVERY (REFLECT & RESET) ✨ Where might your life need a pit stop? ✨ What has become “normal” that is worth questioning? ✨ If AI gave you more time, what would you do with it? 🔗 linkedin.com/in/drjosephantoun 🌐 https://www.l-nutra.com/ 💭 Where could creating space for renewal change how you live? When the life you built no longer fits | Identity, reinvention & starting over | Andrea De La Cerda

In this episode of the Bee Formless™ Flow Driven CEO Podcast, I connected with Andrea De La Cerda, Founder and CEO of Kandula Communications, and somewhere between talking about identity, self-abandonment, business, marriage and the moment life stops allowing us to pretend everything still fits, we realised how much of our journeys had followed a similar path. For Andrea, that moment arrived in 2022 when several parts of the life she had built began unraveling at once. What she eventually had to confront was bigger than any one situation: how much of the person she had become was genuinely her, and how much had been shaped by being the perfect mother, employee, CEO, daughter and who she believed people needed her to be? “I bought into this identity because I don't think the identity was really authentically me.” Underneath the collapse was something Andrea had been overriding for years. She described the signals as a poke, then a slap and eventually a sledgehammer, and what happens when we keep swiping away the inner voice telling us something needs to change. We explored the shame that can come with dismantling a life we worked hard to create, separating who we are from the roles we have learned to perform, and Andrea’s shift from seeing everything as happening to her towards recognising the agency that returned when she began asking what it might be happening for. Towards the end, Andrea shared an idea from a CEO she once worked with. When clarity disappeared, he would “go into the woods” until the noise dropped away enough for him to hear what he already knew. Sometimes the next direction isn’t waiting outside us. We may just need to become quiet enough to hear it. THE SHAPE SHIFT IN MOTION What if falling apart is making space for who you are becoming? LEARN (LETTING GO) ✨ Let go of identities built around other people’s expectations. ✨ Release the need to keep holding everything together because you always have. ✨ Notice the whispers before life turns them into a sledgehammer. UNLEARN (CREATE, REIMAGINE & RESHAPE) ✨ Reimagine disruption as information rather than immediate failure. ✨ Separate who you are from the roles you have learned to perform. ✨ Create enough space to hear what your inner voice is asking for. RELEARN (TEST & IMPLEMENT) ✨ Treat emotions, energy and physical signals as data. ✨ Step away when clarity disappears rather than forcing the next decision. ✨ Rebuild from who you are now, not who you are trying to preserve. ACTIVE RECOVERY (REFLECT & RESET) ✨ Where are you performing an identity that no longer feels like yours? ✨ What signal are you swiping away? ✨ If you went “into the woods” today, what might become easier to hear? 🔗 https://www.linkedin.com/in/andrea-de-la-cerda/ 🌐 andreadelacerda.com 🌐 https://kandulacommunications.com/ 💭 What becomes possible when you stop asking who everyone needs you to be and start listening to who you already are? From side project to founder | Building LOCOCO, Energy & the Courage to go all in | Anna Bloom

In this episode of the Bee Formless™ Flow Driven CEO Podcast, I connected with Anna Bloom, Founder and CEO of LOCOCO, and I loved the warmth of this conversation because underneath a beautiful functional cocoa created in the mountains of Park City was a much bigger story about creativity, founder energy and what happens when something we have been quietly nurturing starts asking for more of us. LOCOCO began during the pandemic, when Anna's kitchen became somewhere to experiment and play at a time when the outside world felt anything other than uncomplicated. What emerged was an idea she calls “uncomplicated comfort”: creating something genuinely pleasurable, functional and easy to bring into everyday life. After more than 15 years shaping brands and products for Facebook, Airbnb and Block, Anna was no stranger to side projects, yet this one kept growing until eventually she had to decide whether she was willing to give it her full attention. Going all in, as Anna described so openly, can sometimes feel like “terror,” especially when suddenly you are the most valuable and expensive resource inside the business. That took us into a founder tension I know well: when everything feels important, what actually deserves our energy? Anna shared something an art professor once taught her about needing three or four uninterrupted hours in the studio, because creativity has its own rhythm and we have to stay with the uncomfortable part long enough to discover what sits on the other side. “There's a moment of struggle, and if you cut short the moment of struggle, you don't get to the breakthrough.” I loved the tension between these ideas. We may want uncomplicated comfort in our lives, while creating something meaningful still asks us to move through uncertainty. Whether we are reshaping a product, a business or ourselves, sometimes the work needs enough space to reveal its next form. THE SHAPE SHIFT IN MOTION What could emerge if we gave the important work enough space to reach the breakthrough? LEARN (LETTING GO) ✨ Let go of the belief that everything deserves equal attention. ✨ Release the idea that fear means you chose the wrong path. ✨ Notice where urgency is consuming the energy your bigger vision needs. UNLEARN (CREATE, REIMAGINE & RESHAPE) ✨ Reimagine wellbeing as pleasurable, not another obligation. ✨ Give creativity enough space to move through the messy middle. ✨ Let ideas take the time they need to find their form. RELEARN (TEST & IMPLEMENT) ✨ Protect time for the work only you can do. ✨ Know when people, systems or automation can carry the rest. ✨ Build your time and energy around what matters most. ACTIVE RECOVERY (REFLECT & RESET) ✨ Where is urgency stealing energy from what matters? ✨ What have you been building on the side that is asking for more? ✨ Step away from the noise and notice what needs your attention next. 🔗 https://www.linkedin.com/in/anna-v-bloom/ 🌐 https://lococomagic.com/ 💭 What might become possible if you gave your biggest vision the space it actually needs? Enough for everybody | Trust, technology & rethinking how we evolve | Nancy Jacobs

In this episode of the Bee Formless™ Flow Driven CEO Podcast, I connected with Nancy Jacobs, Founder of Ovalis Group, who after more than 35 years in business reached a point where she wasn't even sure she wanted to remain in the working world she knew. She had spent years working hard, doing what she believed was right and navigating environments that didn't always reflect the same values back, until eventually she made her world smaller for a while and found something she hadn't expected in that space: peace and where she had a bias. What emerged from there wasn't really a plan to start another company. Nancy had reached a stage where, in her words, “I have nothing to lose by trying what I believe is the right way of working,” and I loved where that took our discussion because Ovalis became an experiment in what business might look like if she built from that belief rather than adapting herself to another existing system. We explored what changes when growth isn't driven by endless extraction, why Nancy believes there is enough for everybody, and how knowing your value and growing intentionally can sit alongside commercial success. We also talked about technology and AI, an area Nancy knows incredibly well, and why the more automated our world becomes, the more she finds herself coming back to something remarkably simple: “Be genuine. Say hello to people, have conversations. Don't sell.” Then there was Nancy's egg, which became one of my favourite parts of our conversation. I won't unpack the whole metaphor here, other than to say it completely reshaped the way we talked about the role of a founder, the people who sit inside and around a business, and what we are actually responsible for protecting as we grow. THE SHAPE SHIFT IN MOTION What changes when we stop treating people, values and commercial growth as competing priorities? LEARN (LETTING GO) ✨ Let go of the belief that growth has to come through extraction. ✨ Release the need to conform to systems that no longer feel aligned. ✨ Stop assuming professionalism requires us to become less human. The signal before the crisis | Kidney risk, resilience & fourth vital | Patañjali Chary

In this episode of the Bee Formless™ Flow Driven CEO Podcast, I connected with Patañjali Chary, Founder and CEO of Fourth Vital, for an intense and enlightening conversation about adversity, agency and what remains possible when life changes form without warning. Around 20 years ago, Patañjali lost his mother to acute kidney failure, leaving the engineer in him with a question he couldn't leave alone: what might be happening inside the body before traditional signals reveal there is a problem? That question eventually became Fourth Vital, bringing technology and AI together to help identify kidney risk earlier, while there is still more time to act. Then, only months after starting the company, Patañjali woke one morning unable to feel his legs. A severe listeria infection had crossed his blood-brain barrier and travelled down his spinal cord. He was placed into an induced coma and later heard that he might never walk, talk, swallow or eat normally again. Patañjali described spending a night willing his left toe to move, drawing on what he understood about the brain, imagination and its extraordinary capacity to find another way. The following morning, his toe moved. What I loved about where our conversation went was that Patañjali never framed recovery as willpower alone. His wife, clinicians, friends, advisors and engineers became part of the story, including keeping Fourth Vital moving when he couldn't use a laptop for seven months. “Nobody perseveres alone.” We explored how that same thinking shapes the way he builds: knowing what you don't know, letting go of the founder's need to have every answer, surrounding yourself with people whose expertise is different from your own, and continuing to experiment when the path ahead isn't clear. THE SHAPE SHIFT IN MOTION What if adversity can change the form without defining what comes next? When pushing stops working | adaptive safety, culture & human performance | Errol Amerasekera

In this episode of the Bee Formless™ Flow Driven CEO Podcast, I connected with Errol Amerasekera, author, speaker and Director of Bluestone Edge, whose latest book From Fear to Flow: The Adaptive Safety Revolution explores something very close to where I am personally right now: when does the way we have learned to perform start getting in the way of flow? “The harder I push, and the more I override the part of me that doesn't want to push, the less the results are flowing.” I knew exactly what Errol meant, ambition and drive have served both of us incredibly well, and there comes a point where the identity that enabled us to perform can start pulling us away from ourselves. We talked openly about that shift from flow into force, the signals of disconnection we override and why pressure can make us grip harder to what worked before. Errol's work on adaptive safety grew from his own experience of belonging. Growing up as one of very few brown-skinned children in predominantly white environments shaped something he consciously connected to his work much later: creating the kind of environments he needed himself. Today, he sees trust, inclusion and connection as foundations for teams to adapt and perform under pressure. We explored a bigger shift from an extractive model of continually pushing for more towards something more ecological, connected and adaptive: fear around AI, resistance as a signal we may be reaching the edge of our capacity, learning deeply rather than simply learning fast, and recovery as part of performance. Underneath so much of our conversation was a question Errol uses when coaching leaders: “What's my role required of me in this moment?” I loved that, if the context is moving, the team is moving and we are moving too, why would the role remain fixed? THE SHAPE SHIFT IN MOTION What changes when we stop forcing performance and create the conditions for it to emerge? LEARN (LETTING GO) ✨ Let go of the belief that pressure automatically produces better performance. ✨ Release the identity that says who you have been is who you must continue to be. ✨ Notice when control and pushing are responses to fear. UNLEARN (CREATE, REIMAGINE & RESHAPE) ✨ Reimagine performance as ecological: people, relationships and context working as a system. ✨ Create safety through micro-behaviours that strengthen trust, inclusion and connection. ✨ Reshape your role around what the moment requires rather than a fixed identity.
