From Outrage to Action: Kitty Brandtner and the Fight to Ban Assault Weapons

On this episode of Between Us Moms, we’re joined by Kitty Brandtner, the founder of March Fourth, a nonpartisan movement fighting for a federal ban on assault weapons. After the Highland Park shooting on July 4th, 2022, Kitty woke up the next morning — heartbroken, angry, and unwilling to go back to “normal.” In her words, “I woke up on the 5th of July and was like, really spicy and pissed… I just wanted to go to D.C. and scream at the top of my lungs that I want a federal ban on assault weapons.” She posted her email on Instagram, took a deep breath (and a Xanax), went to bed — and woke up to more than 300 messages from people across the country who felt the same way. From that moment, March Fourth was born — a movement formed by accident, powered by hope. In this conversation, Kitty shares what motivated her to take that first step, why March Fourth has stayed intentionally nonpartisan (“We’re not here to tell you how to vote — we’re here to ask if you believe we should end mass shootings”), and what it will really take to get a federal assault weapons ban through Congress. She also offers simple, concrete actions that any of us — from our own homes — can take to help move the needle on gun safety. This episode is raw, motivating, and full of heart — a reminder that you don’t need to be an expert or an activist to make a difference. Sometimes, you just have to decide you can’t go back to work tomorrow. See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

'Seeking Sister Wife' Stars April & Jen Davis|Interview

This week, we’re joined by TLC’s Seeking Sister Wife stars April and Jen Davis for a candid conversation about family, love, and what life really looks like behind the scenes of their plural marriage. The couple opens up about the arrival of their daughter, Charlene “Charlie” — who made her debut a week early — and how they’re adjusting to life with a newborn. “Two is a lot different than one,” Jen laughs, as they share how they’re finally getting some sleep, “looking out for each other,” and soaking in the joy of their growing family. Jen also talks about how she’s doing postpartum, giving full credit to the “love and support” she’s surrounded by every day. But one name that doesn’t come up as the ladies talk about their family unit is Theresa, whose relationship with April, Jen, and Nick is featured this season. April hints that there are plenty of “ups and downs” with her and teases that fans will have to watch and see what happens. Still, she’s quick to make it clear that their family is “extremely happy” as things stand today. April and Jen also take listeners back to the beginning, opening up about how their relationship started as a friendship and evolved into the foundation of their plural family. They explain why it “made more sense” for April and Jen to be legally married to one another, how they balance work and finances with Nick staying home, and the teamwork that goes into making their family dynamic work day to day. From handling public criticism — and even pushback from extended family — to talking about growing old together and making retirement plans as “lifers,” the Davises share how they stay grounded and connected through it all. They even get into the details fans love: their sleeping arrangements, the infamous “boom boom room,” and how they made sure their new home could fit their 13-foot custom bed. And yes — they’re still open to growing their family. Jen reveals she and April are back on the dating apps, and the two share what it’s really like to find a potential match in their unique situation. Plus, they tease what viewers can expect from the rest of this season of Seeking Sister Wife, airing Mondays at 9/8c on TLC. Stay at Home Moms: Losing Financial Independence

This week on the podcast, Hallie reveals why she can’t stop crying. The mom of two was most recently brought to tears while binge-watching Netflix’s Love Is Blind and again after she and her husband had to cut down a tree in their backyard. Hallie also reflects on her first-ever experience taking professional photos with her extended family—something she lovingly refers to as a “clusterfuck.” After getting together with a group of her friends last week, she even has a homework assignment for all the mamas tuning in. Meanwhile, Katie is riding the struggle bus after her youngest daughter, Emma, decided she’s officially done with the two-nap life. Katie, who’s been trying her best to keep her girls on a synced-up schedule, is having to let go of the reins a bit (at her husband’s request). But that’s not the only battle she’s facing. Katie also has a bone to pick with technology after getting a new iPhone—and a conversation about passwords with her husband left her jaw on the floor! Hallie and Katie weigh in on the topic of being a stay-at-home mom and the loss of financial autonomy after one mom, Jessie, went viral for her post describing the uneasy shift from being a “boss mom” and earning her own income to making none in order to stay home with her kids. Jessie, who ran her own business and maintained financial independence, realized that balancing everything left her drained. Eventually, she chose to close her business and restructure their finances so both partners’ efforts—paid and unpaid—supported the family together. But she admitted that even small purchases can become emotionally loaded and her story resonated deeply with parents who recognized the same tension. Now Hallie and Katie are giving their two cents. The besties also applaud Cardi B, who recently chatted with Jay Shetty on his On Purpose podcast and explained just how deeply prenatal depression affected her during pregnancy after her marriage to Offset fell apart. Cardi described what so many mothers experience quietly: a deep sense of isolation and uncertainty about the future. She admitted that thoughts of raising her baby alone and losing her partner’s companionship left her feeling a deep sadness. Now, Hallie and Katie want to give the Grammy winner her flowers for being so open—helping others feel seen and reminding the world that expecting mothers deserve compassion and support.
