Stopping Purging Before Stopping Binging in Bulimia Recovery + Life Updates

Stopping Purging Before Stopping Binging in Bulimia Recovery + Life Updates

Should you stop purging before attempting to address binging? Let me first clarify by saying purging of any kind should never be utilized as a tool. It has severe health consequences and keeps you stuck in the cycle of bulimia for various reasons. However, there are multiple ways to recover.

For me, I addressed the binging first. Committing became more important after I stopped binging as more urges arose to purge on my intuitive eating journey. The reason addressed the binging first was simply because I was not willing or in a place to be ready to give up purging.

In hindsight, I could have and should have given up purging as soon as possible as it did perpetuate the cycle. However, it worked out regardless. In today's episode, we discuss what you want to consider when addressing both challenges, the benefits of addressing purging first, and if you are unwilling to go there yet.

Plus I also give you some life updates. :)

    Trusting Yourself In Bulimia Recovery

    Trusting Yourself In Bulimia Recovery

After experiencing a lack of trust in myself this past week I wanted to discuss that personal story on the podcast. If you struggle with bulimia you likely also struggle to trust yourself with many things. This is one of the reasons it's so hard to recover since trust is the foundation you need in order to take action that helps you make progress and create that confidence that builds trust. On the podcast, I talk about how you can think of trust differently and grant trust now.

What You Do In the Beginning VS. The end of Bulimia Recovery

What You Do In the Beginning VS. The end of Bulimia Recovery

What you do in recovery is not what you’ll do at the end of recovery or out of recovery.

    The way you eat.

    The way you process emotions.

The way you handle urges and the difficulty level they feel like will change.

The thoughts you think, how you perceive things, the way you address life without your eating disorder will be different.

The problem is people think in the beginning of their recovery whatever they are doing, the good and the bad will be forever.

That they have to handle incredibly difficult urges every single day.

That they will always eat like they’ve just been starving for 12 months.

    No… they won’t.

So please listen to this episode if you’re worried that whatever you’re doing will be forever. It won’t and thinking that may create self-sabotage at the exact point where you need to keep going a little bit longer.

Changed my life!

This podcast was the stimulus to help me fully recover from bulimia. Not only listening to it, but also working with Jacqueline led me to a full eating disorder recovery. My eating disorder has been present for 20 years. If I can do it, you can too! I think this podcast will help anyone who has a desire to get better and that puts in the work! Enjoy!

Beautifully done.

I am so grateful to have found your podcast. This podcast is so well personalized for people struggling with Bulimia. Jacqueline is so insightful, honest, and caring.

Jacqueline continually challenges me to strive for self-respect and acceptance. The journal prompts offered in the course allows me to self-reflect, to be aware and discover my inner motivations. I often go back to the old podcast to review things that I might forgotten or what I currently need support with.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please continue to share your wisdom.
