    Remembering the 12 Tribes

    In Parshat Tetzaveh, the Torah repeats the names of the twelve tribes on both the shoulder stones and the Choshen of the Kohen Gadol, teaching two dimensions of Divine remembrance. The shoulder stones represent the burden of Torah, reward and consequence, and the daily struggle of Am Yisrael to fulfill the mitzvot. The Choshen, engraved with the tribes and the Avot, represents the light of the Tzaddikim and the power of simcha tamid—the ability to remain connected to Hashem whether ascending or descending. Through the Avodah of Yom Kippur and the contrast with Achashverosh’s misuse of the eight garments, we learn that true joy belongs only to Am Yisrael, and that remembering who we are—children of the twelve tribes—defeats Amalek’s voice of despair and activates redemption.     Drawing From the Center of the Universe

    The destruction of the Beit Hamikdash and the story of Purim reveal that true simcha comes from the revelation of the Infinite Light, which cannot be contained in this world and therefore requires a vessel through which it can be experienced. The downfall of the ten sons of Haman in a single moment reflects the unity of this Infinite Light overpowering forces that opposed the rebuilding of the Temple and the joy it represents. Creation itself was formed through a ray of Divine light drawn into an empty space, with Jerusalem as the central point where this light is most revealed, and the Foundation Stone as its channel into the world. Even in exile, this light can be accessed through connection to tzaddikim, whose spiritual power reflects the light of the Beit Hamikdash, which is why their passing is considered comparable to its destruction. Simcha is therefore not merely emotional happiness but attachment to Divine unity, and the Land of Israel—especially Jerusalem—provides unique access to this Infinite Light despite its challenges, fulfilling the teaching of **Rebbe Nachman** that true joy begins by connecting to this spiritual source rather than remaining in mourning or despair.     Doing Out of Faith vs. Intellect

    Parshat Parah - which follows the joyous light of Purim - is the power to nullify the impurity of death, which is the essence of atheistic and skeptic philosophical ideology promoted by those who doubt Hashem's authority always trying to seek to understand everything with no place for emunah. Rather the procedure of the red heifer ashes teaches us to believe and follow Hashem's statues even when we don't understand their meaning.     Hope in Hashem is Renewal

    Purim reveals that true renewal and salvation come from hoping in Hashem, combining simcha with deep yearning and trust that those who place their hope in Him will never be put to shame. The Megillah teaches that even in the darkest historical moments, turning back to Hashem awakens repentance and brings hidden miracles, with the night devoted to prayer and self-awakening and the day to joy and celebration. The verse “those who hope in Hashem will renew their strength” explains that spiritual vitality comes not from human power but from reliance on Divine mercy, symbolized by constant renewal like the phoenix. Stories of Holocaust survivors show that hope in Hashem can sustain life even when all strength seems lost. Rebbe Nachman and Reb Noson illuminate this path by teaching that a person must actively turn toward Hashem and take responsibility for change, while the tzaddikim provide light, encouragement, and the power to awaken faith and renewal in every generation.     Pondering Beyond Limits to Activate the Light

    In Parshat Terumah, Moshe Rabbeinu’s difficulty with the menorah, the laws of shkatzim, and the renewal of the moon reveals three dimensions that lie beyond ordinary prophecy. The menorah represents drawing the Infinite Light into a physical vessel, the shkatzim teach that even those who have fallen beneath spiritual “existence” still have hope and halachic structure, and chidush ha’levanah shows that even the first faint step of return is already called Mekudash. Through these three themes, we learn that there is light above us, hope below us, and renewal available at every beginning—accessed through the tzaddikim in every generation who carry the spark of Moshe Rabbeinu.
