Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale: Is This a FAKE Manual? | CarQuicks Podcast Ep. 126

Ferrari calls it the 12Cilindri Manuale, but the gated shifter and clutch pedal actually control an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission by wire. Is Ferrari’s newest “manual” a genuine evolution of the manual transmission, or an expensive simulation? On Episode 126 of the CarQuicks Automotive Podcast, we discuss our thoughts on the Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale works and compare it with the Koenigsegg CC850’s Engaged Shift System. Both recreate the experience of driving a manual, but they accomplish it in very different ways. Then there is the Hennessey Venom F5-M. It sends 2,031 bhp through a true six-speed gated manual transmission, challenging the idea that modern performance and a mechanical manual cannot coexist. We discuss: - How Ferrari created its manual-by-wire system - What the shifter and clutch pedal are actually connected to - Ferrari 12Cilindri Manuale versus Koenigsegg CC850 ESS - Whether either car should be considered a real manual - The 2,031-bhp Hennessey Venom F5-M - Why simulated driving experiences are becoming more accepted - The GoodWood Festival of Speed - RUF’s 1,000-hp flat-eight development car - Lamborghini’s position on bringing back manuals - The Hyundai IONIQ 5 N price cut - My review of the Lexus RX 500h F Sport Performance - GR Corolla Updates - The Dangers of the FLOCK Surveillance System Can a simulated manual deliver an authentic experience, or does the physical connection define what makes a manual transmission special?
