Discovering Your Divine DNA: Why You’re Stronger Than You Think

This week, I'm taking a fresh look at something that's been cropping up in my life—perspective. What if, instead of asking God to give us what we want, we started asking Him to show us a glimpse of what we're actually capable of? During a recent walk (inspired by a simple exercise challenge), I found myself wondering about the gap between what I believe I can do and what my Heavenly Father knows I’m capable of. How much more could we accomplish if we truly understood our divine DNA? I'm also sharing insights from a recent coaching call with my group clients, where one member showed vulnerability and worried it made her look weak—when in reality, her honesty and resilience inspired everyone. I know I’m not the only one who sometimes feels inadequate or suffers from imposter syndrome, but here’s the twist: Most people only see your strength and assume you’re doing better than you think you are. So here's my invitation: Let’s lean into the magnificent truth that you are stronger, better, and more impactful than you know—simply because of who you are and your divine heritage. Confronting Heavy Thoughts and Embracing Your God-Given Gifts

This week, I'm flying solo but bringing you nuggets of wisdom fresh from a recent conference that really made me pause and reflect. Have you ever stopped to consider how those heavy or discouraging thoughts you have might just be limiting beliefs—or even lies? I dive into why that simple idea struck me so profoundly and how it connects to stories and struggles we've talked about before. At the heart of this episode, I revisit the parable of the talents, this time through a more personal lens. What if it's not just about using our gifts, but about how we view ourselves and our willingness to be visible? I share candid thoughts about how fear of being seen—or worry about what others think—can keep us hiding our abilities, both in business and in faith. If you've ever felt held back by self-doubt or the feeling that you're just not "good enough," this one's especially for you. What limiting beliefs might be souring your life, and are you ready to challenge them? Join me as we explore how changing our mindset can open up both spiritual and personal growth. I can't wait to hear your thoughts. Please share this episode with someone who needs to hear it. Letting Go of What You Can’t Control and Embracing What You Can

The Hymn of the Pearl This week, we dive into a story that’s stuck with me ever since I heard it in sacrament meeting: the Hymn of the Pearl. Have you ever felt like you were just going through the motions, forgetting who you really are? Join us as we unpack this ancient Christian allegory about a prince on a mission—sent far from his home, caught in the distractions of Egypt, and needing a powerful reminder of his true purpose. What does “Egypt” look like in your life? And who or what helps you remember your identity and mission? We get real about how easy it is to lose focus and get tangled in the problems of the world—whether it’s politics, social media, or local drama (like a new housing development going up across the street). I share some honest struggles about wanting to fix everything, and together we ask: where should we actually spend our energy, and what’s okay to just let go? Plus, a powerful reminder from the Serenity Prayer helps guide us through the wisdom of knowing what we can—and can’t—change. If you’ve ever wondered how to stay grounded when life gets overwhelming, or how to reconnect with your divine identity, you won’t want to miss this one. I’d love to hear—what are the “letters” in your life that help you wake up and remember who you really are? Please share this episode with someone who needs to hear it. Finding Connection and Purpose Through Sourdough, Service, and Spiritual Promptings

This week, I'm joined by Ganel-Lyn Condie: author, speaker, and, as you'll hear, self-proclaimed sourdough novice turned minister. We dive into the unique ministry she's developed through sharing homemade sourdough bread, and how something as simple as a loaf can be a conduit for connection, kindness, and even healing. Have you ever tried to turn a hobby or struggle into a way to bless others? Ganel-Lyn shares candidly about her own failures, triumphs, and the people who showed up just when she needed a "Sue" herself. But the real magic of this conversation is about more than bread. We talk about the quiet seasons of life—those stretches when our roles, routines, and identities seem to shift beneath our feet. What does it look like to listen for promptings, act on them (especially when they're unexpected or uncomfortable), and trust God with the outcomes? Whether your thing is chocolate cake, sourdough, or just lending a listening ear, Ganel-Lyn reminds us that small offerings and moments of ministering have big ripple effects. So as you listen, think about what you might have to offer—however ordinary or unfinished it feels right now. Who do you know that needs a little "sourdough ministry"? Who needs a text, a cake, or just a listening friend? Let's make space for the quiet miracles that show up when we dare to reach out. Please share this episode with someone who needs to hear it. Simple Ways to See the Hand of God in Daily Life

This week, I’m sharing some thoughts fresh from a talk I gave in sacrament meeting—and giving you a peek behind the curtain about what was on my mind as I wrote it. Ever wonder how we actually “find the Savior in everyday life”? It’s a question I was assigned to wrestle with, and it got me thinking: do we stumble into moments where we feel Christ’s presence, or do we have to search for Him intentionally? Together, we’ll explore not just the unexpected ways we might notice the divine, but how choosing to look shapes what we find. I’ll walk you through a quirky (and maybe slightly ridiculous) experiment—what do unicorns, purple trucks, and hidden hearts have to do with recognizing God? More than you’d expect! Join me as I share a three-step invitation for making these small moments matter: remembering God loves us, practicing gratitude, and looking outward for someone else who needs to be noticed. This episode is a simple pause to let you connect, reflect, and maybe even see the everyday with new eyes. As you listen, I hope you’ll find your own sweet nuggets of goodness, and maybe even an unexpected heart or two along the way. Please share this episode with someone who needs to hear it. The Spirit of Contention: Understanding Gospel Perspectives on Disagreement

This week, I’m not alone in the Chocolate Cake Bytes studio—Verlin from the Cultural Hall podcast joins me for a conversation that’s more lively (and maybe less wisecracking) than going solo. We take on a topic that gets thrown around a lot in church settings: is there really a difference between conflict and contention? And are we “of the devil” every time we disagree? Verlin and I go deep into what the scriptures actually say—and what they don’t—about the spirit of contention and how sometimes, avoiding conflict isn’t as virtuous as we might think. Along the way, we laugh about sibling boxing matches, rebellious chili spice levels, and the perils of answering, “Does this make me look fat?” But the heart of the episode is a practical, gospel-centered look at how facing disagreements with honesty and kindness can help us grow—and how curating our lives and even our social media feeds toward goodness can help us avoid contention, not conflict. If you’ve ever found yourself tiptoeing around hard conversations, or you’re wondering how to handle “porcupines” in your life, this episode is for you. Let’s learn how to resolve differences while keeping the sweet spirit the gospel offers. Please share this episode with someone who needs to hear it.
