    The Driver (1978)

    The Driver (1978)

We celebrate the life and career of Ryan O'Neal with a discussion of his slickest star vehicle. My audio is a little choppy at times because I had to cut out a lot of barking. Peggy was very excitable during this episode but can you blame her? It's Ryan O'Neal, it's Isabelle Adjani, it's Bruce Dern, it's Walter Hill, folks. What a cast. What a picture. What a podcast.

We run down some of Austin's favorite new movies, some of Raymond's favorite old movies and exactly one prompt from the mailbag. Not a great ratio, I don't know what to tell you. Happy New Year, folks.

    Eraserhead (1977)

    Eraserhead (1977)

You know what, I loved having this conversation with Austin and I loved listening back to it while editing. This is a movie that both encourages and defies explanation. Truly one of a kind. We had a couple hours to chat about it which didn't increase my understanding of the film one bit but considerably increased my appreciation of it and that, to me, is a sign of great art. It's beguiling; It continues to unfold without ever truly revealing its secrets. I hope you all get a chance to see Eraserhead and I hope you all enjoy this discussion which is more AROUND the movie than ABOUT it, if that makes sense.
The book that I mention in this episode, which I forgot the name of during recording, is "Eraserhead, The David Lynch Files: Volume 1" by Kenneth Godwin.

Dawn of the Dead with Becky Catalano (1978)

Dawn of the Dead with Becky Catalano (1978)

A year after their Night of the Living Dead episode, Becky and Raymond return to the works of George A. Romero. It's an impulse they can't explain, perhaps something buried deep down in their psyche. This filmmaker meant something to them when they were younger and they can't resist coming back again and again, year after year. They get up and podcast. The people who listen get up and podcast!

The Exorcist with The Extra Credits (1973)

Kelsi and Trey from The Extra Credits podcast join us for the middle chapter of our Friedkin trifecta. Everything goes well until a stunning revelation an hour into the episode. Will the CineMythology listeners revolt? Will Raymond ever regain his credibility? Did he ever have any credibility to lose? Press play now on the podcast people are saying is "about film history".

Awesome show!

I followed Raymond and Austin from SMTM and I would gladly follow them anywhere. I love their banter and how they deep dive with philosophy, especially the horror movie genre. But I’ll listen, no matter what! I also love the long episode format. I listen during the day and use it to sleep at night, it’s so comforting. You guys are the best, your passion from your professional expertise exudes from your voices. Thank you so much for this show!

Thank you!

It’s Friday night, Friday the 13th, 2023. 9:49pm EST (upstate NY). 28 year old dude, former show me the meaning/wisecrack fan. Girlfriend asleep in the bedroom with The Simpsons on in the background.

I’m in the kitchen of my apartment getting all my meal prepping done for the week early. I’m currently waiting on the vegetables to get done roasting in the oven for a butternut squash soup recipe I saw on some random jackasse’s IG reel I thought looked good.

I’m in the middle of scrubbing a dish in the sink as my last podcast entertainment of the night comes to an end.

Then suddenly my plugged in phone on the counter next to my cutting board of chopped up fresh ginger root lights up. I glance over to my surprise and am shocked to see Raymond and Austin have just dropped an episode on one of my favorite movies!

My night just got so much better. Thanks boys! Always love the content. Keep it going!

So hope you would get a kick out of this write up and 5 star review 😂 Twitter @danivy99

It’s like a like movie like review like podcast

The two hosts say “like” every other word, thus ruining what would otherwise be a good podcast. I’m out, millennials.
