From the Close Reads Podcast Network, Close Reads is a book-club podcast hosted by David Kern and featuring an array of contributors, including Tim McIntosh, Heidi White, and others. We read Great Books and talk about them.
A NOTE ABOUT OLDER EPISODES: Since most podcast apps don't go further back than 100 episodes, you'll need to click here to listen to anything further back than that. And our first 32 episodes can be found here, on the original CiRCE Institute feed.

Making good books even better

I just discovered this podcast a few weeks ago. I've never read Flannery O'Connor before, and probably wouldn't have enjoyed her if I hadn't been listening to the discussion sessions. I've also gone back into the archive to listen to the sessions on some old favorites. I love the perspective and insight of the hosts!

Update: I began writing the above review quite some time ago, and for some reason I never finished and submitted it!

I am so thankful for Close Reads and the whole Close Reads Podcast Network. These shows have enriched and stretched my reading life so much. Here’s to many more years!

For the Love of Literature

I have found my tribe. Close Reads is a windfall for people like me, who've never taken a post-high school lit class, but love reading. This podcast has expanded my horizons, introduced me to authors, and enriched my life. It has helped me in the totality of my reading to look at structure, themes, metaphors, and even the objective correlative!

My best friends who don’t know I exist

This podcast has been a huge treat in my life since I found the Flannery O Connor episodes a couple years ago. I listen while I do chores and the literary conversations feed my soul and keep me excited about reading and homeschooling and wishing there were more towels to fold. David asks great questions but too many questions at once and rambles a little too much. I wish he’d ask one clear question and then let Tim and Heidi have plenty of time to answer. They are exceedingly eloquent and intelligent and I hang on their words. Thank you for the work you put into these conversations, dear close readers! I’m glad we’re friends.
