He Roasted Tony Hinchcliffe Before It Was Cool ~ Comedian Greg Roque | Ep. 291

Comedian and screenwriter Greg Roque joins The Beard and Dimples to reveal the full story behind the viral Roast Battle clip in which he relentlessly roasted Tony Hinchcliffe. Greg explains why their history became personal, whether he would still go after Tony today and why he considers himself one of the comedy “punk pioneers” who criticized Tony before it was cool. Greg also discusses his Black List-recognized Jerry Springer screenplay, the influence Steve Martin had on his education, his massive physical-media collection, watching more than 1,000 movies in one year, becoming a quadriplegic after a spinal-cord injury at 14, fatherhood and his newly recorded comedy special, Invalid Invalid. ICE Detained Her for 73 Days ~ Everlee Wihongi | Ep. 290

Everlee Wihongi returned to the United States through LAX after a family trip to New Zealand and was detained by ICE over a 2012 marijuana conviction involving less than two grams. What she believed would be a brief delay for paperwork became 73 days inside immigration detention facilities in California, Texas and Arizona. Everlee tells The Beard and Dimples how she was separated from her family, pressured to sign a document she wasn’t allowed to read, transported in belly chains and shackles, and denied food and privacy. She also describes detention-center failures that repeatedly kept her from scheduled court hearings. Everlee explains how a dishonest former lawyer contributed to her immigration nightmare, what happened when her Wisconsin conviction was vacated and why ICE released her without her passport, Green Card or official release papers. She discusses rebuilding her life as a robotic technician, the emotional impact of detention and why she continues telling her story for friends who remain trapped in the immigration system—including a woman reportedly detained for a year while legally recorded as dead in Bulgaria. This is Everlee Wihongi’s firsthand account of ICE detention, immigration court failures and the people still waiting for help. New episodes every Monday. FOILED Is 20?! ~ Matt Noveskey | Ep. 289

Matt Noveskey of Blue October joins Cocktails with Dimples and The Beard to talk about the 20th anniversary of Foiled and what it’s like revisiting one of the band’s biggest albums two decades later. Matt shares which songs had to be relearned, why playing Foiled front to back has been such a different experience for the band and fans, and how rehearsing “Let It Go” revealed that he’d been counting the same part wrong for years. We also get into Blue October’s massive 70-show North American tour, the appeal of full-album anniversary concerts, deep cuts fans have waited years to hear, the future of Blue October, and why Matt believes live music is at its best when bands leave room for mistakes, spontaneity and the human element instead of relying too heavily on backing tracks. Matt also takes us back to his early days learning bass by rewinding cassette tapes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rush and Primus, recording songs off the radio and surviving DJs talking over the intros. He opens up about reconnecting with his old Michigan bandmates after more than 25 years to form Disastronaut, their song “Midwest Love Song,” an unreleased track called “Torture,” and the possibility of finally playing shows together. Plus, we talk about his kids’ musical talents, the latest on Icarus Bell, life on the road, memorable tour-bus stories, and—because we couldn’t help ourselves—a little Lions, Bears and Packers talk along the way. She Makes Adult Films Women Actually Want ~ Inka Winter | Ep. 288

Ethical adult filmmaker Inka Winter joins The Beard and Dimples to explain how she creates adult films women actually want. The founder of ForPlay Films breaks down the difference between ethical, feminist and female-friendly pornography, why mainstream adult films didn’t work for her, and how consent, authentic pleasure, emotional connection and performer collaboration shape every scene she directs. Inka also shares her remarkable journey from growing up in Austria’s Friedrichshof cult to studying economics, fashion and costume design before entering adult filmmaking. She takes us behind the scenes of her *Bridgerton*-inspired production *Ashford Manor*, reveals what it takes to organize an orgy, explains why men shouldn’t compete with vibrators, and discusses sex education, psychedelic trip sitting, laughter during sex—and bringing her own bread to the AVN Awards. Are You Saying I’m the Funniest Person You Know? ~ Comedian Liz Zagone | Ep. 287

Comedian Liz Zagone joins The Beard and Dimples for a funny, unfiltered conversation about building a stand-up career from scratch, beginning with the unexpected text from her little brother that pushed her toward her first class at Second City. Liz talks about turning nearly two decades of bartending in Chicago and West Hollywood into comedy, creating her debut stand-up special Sick Little Freak and watching it surpass 100,000 views on YouTube. She also shares stories about winning a refrigerator on The Price Is Right, appearing on Comics Unleashed, growing up around her family’s Halloween-mask business, serving celebrities in Los Angeles and filming her bizarre dead-mom role for a Dhar Mann video—including what she says was an unexpected off-script kiss. Liz also takes us behind the scenes of Womb Room, the comedy pilot she co-created, produced and starred in before premiering it at SeriesFest, with stories involving yoni steaming, strategically edited nudity and plans to transform the project into a vertical comedy series. Then the conversation goes deeper as Liz explains how repeated ayahuasca ceremonies—some shared with her sister and father—helped her build self-worth, process grief and become more confident in both life and comedy. From worrying that healing might cost her comedic edge to realizing that something only needs to be funny to her, this episode of Cocktails with Dimples and The Beard reveals exactly who Liz Zagone is: a comedian, writer, actor, producer, bartender and self-described sick little freak. The Magical Negro ~ Comedian Justin Leon | Ep. 286

Milwaukee comedian Justin Leon joins The Beard and Dimples ahead of his August 7th and 8th shows at The Laughing Tap, and the interview immediately turns into a full-scale roast. The Kansas City native looks back at getting his first laugh at six, being one of three Black students cast as thugs in a Lutheran school play, performing twenty minutes his first time onstage, and finding stand-up at Stanford and Sons. He also resurrects the poem that once crushed at an open mic—“Bitch, You Made My Nuts Itch”—which somehow prompts Dimples to confess that he once ignored a friend’s explicit warning about crabs. Justin also opens up about marriage, fatherhood, moving to Wisconsin, and losing his stepfather and biological father within 24 hours. From his hemp-farm experience and Kansas City barbecue standards to a suspicious “watermelon” code word, a Wisconsin intervention, and a heated Michael Jordan vs. LeBron James debate, nothing stays serious for long. Along the way, Justin turns Dimples’ divorce and massive DVD collection into an impromptu therapy session—and earns the episode title: The Magical Negro. New episodes every Monday. Bobby Lee Wanted Him to Rat... But Did He? ~ Comedian Luke Binkow | Ep. 285

Comedian Luke Binkow joins The Beard and Dimples to talk about becoming a recurring guest on Bobby Lee’s TigerBelly—and the Comedy Store parking-lot accident that left him caught between his managers, a damaged car and Bobby demanding to know who ratted. Luke explains how his relationship with Bobby led to the opportunity, what it’s like joining a podcast with a fiercely loyal audience and why working alongside Thomas Lennon immediately made him question whether he was prepared. He also shares the chaotic process of becoming a Comedy Store door guy, winning Set of the Night six times and competing against Mikey McDonald for what they assumed was the only available “white guy spot.” Luke also traces his path from California stoner and aspiring filmmaker to studying directing at Chapman University, taking an online stand-up class during COVID and performing his first open mic at Flappers before months of bombing in Orange County bars. The conversation covers Roast Battle, his joke-writing process, turning failed stand-up premises into sketches with This Place Is Huge, writing a pilot with fellow comedian Joey Cerone, developing a short film and imagining a comedy special filmed entirely inside a car. Luke also defends the Filet-O-Fish, shares his Waymo adventures, explains why he would rather doomscroll than watch a mediocre television series and talks about his comedy influences, dating a non-comedian and the night he hid under a table during a horror movie before calling his mom to take him home.
