Ep. 190 Peter Carrillo - Invest in Hope!

In this powerful and heart-centered episode of Conversations with Buddy, we sit down with Peter from Liberty House to talk about purpose, community, and the life-changing work happening right here in the Mid-Valley. 💙 Peter shares his journey growing up in Silverton and how meaningful it is to now serve the very community that helped shape him.  Peter also gives us a glimpse into his personal life—married for over a decade to his incredible wife, and living in Keizer where he stays deeply involved in the community. Whether it’s serving on the board of the Keizer Rotary Club or contributing to the Ash Creek Art Center, Peter lives out his passion for bringing people together to make a difference. 🤝✨ One of the most impactful parts of this conversation is how Peter connects his background in wrestling to his work today. 🥇 The discipline, focus, and commitment to hard work he learned on the mat translate directly into the mission at Liberty House. It’s about showing up, staying focused, and fighting for those who need a voice the most. 💪 We dive deep into the critical work Liberty House is doing—responding to over 1,500 confirmed cases of child abuse, providing trauma-informed care, and using drama-focused therapy to help children heal. ⚠️ This episode includes a content warning as we discuss sensitive topics, but it’s a conversation that matters.  Peter emphasizes the importance of shining a light on these issues, having tough conversations, and empowering the community to step in and be part of the solution. 💡 As we highlight… April is Child Abuse Prevention Month, Peter shares how initiatives like “Invest in Hope” are creating real impact and building stronger, safer communities. 🌟   This episode will inspire you to lean in, be aware, and take action where it matters most. ❤️ Reach out and get to know Peter and learn more about the mission of Liberty House by going to:  https://libertyhousecenter.org or give him a call/text at 971-209-8951. 🙏 Subscribe to Conversations with Buddy for more conversations that inspire faith, leadership, and impact. #JesusFollower #Discipleship #libertyhouse #faith #leadership #purpose #conversationswithbuddy  _ _ _ For more stories like this, go to: https://www.youtube.com/@BuddyJamesPuckett If you or someone you know want to be on the podcast, please reach out to me on Instagram @conversationswithbuddy or text me at 503-851-8031.  _ _ _ About Buddy Puckett:Buddy Puckett has been in the mortgage and finance space and mentoring men for over 25 years.  A mentoring opportunity all started when he first began in the mortgage industry in 1998, when he began to mentor a younger guy who happened to be married.  This person was not making great choices and it was sadly affecting his marriage.  We all are 1 decision away from something really dumb, so accountability became something Buddy knew he needed as well.  Buddy’s wife, Shawn, suggested he start a podcast in 2022 to share the stories of people who have struggled, failed, overcame by realizing the life of love, joy and peace is only available through a relationship with Jesus Christ!  “Jesus said to him, ’I am the way, and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me’.” John 14:6 Buddy Puckett NMLS #270057, Arizona BK#0018883, AZ LO-1032154; OR ML-176 For more licensing information, please visit www.guildmortgage.com/licensing. Ep. 189 Jon Moore - Be comfortable being uncomfortable!

If you’re looking for motivation to level up—in your faith, your health, your business, or your mindset—this episode will challenge you… 💪 Jon Moore is the definition of discipline, faith, and relentless pursuit. A follower of Jesus, devoted husband of 23 years, and father of two, Jon has spent nearly two decades serving others as a physical therapist. His journey is a powerful example of trusting God while doing the hard things most people avoid. 🙏 Growing up in Salem, Oregon, Jon developed a deep love for sports and competition early on. That competitive fire carried him through racquetball at a national championship level, multiple half marathons, a full marathon, and even two Half Ironman races. Jon lives by a mindset rooted in discipline, grit, and the belief that if you’re not growing, you’re falling behind. What sets Jon apart is his unwavering commitment to integrating faith into every aspect of life. Whether it’s in his business, his family, or his community, he sees himself as an ambassador for Christ—planting seeds, investing in others, and using his work as ministry.  His life reflects Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” This isn’t just a verse—it’s the foundation of how he operates daily. ✝️ In this conversation, Jon shares what it really means to “do hard things.” From pushing his physical limits to stepping out in faith to start his own business, he reveals the mindset required to overcome fear, doubt, and comfort. He also talks about the importance of surrounding yourself with the right people, building community, and representing your family well in everything you do. Jon brings a powerful reminder: your life has purpose, your work matters, and sometimes the path forward requires bold faith and relentless action. Because at the end of the day… if you’re not pushing yourself, you’re missing what you’re capable of becoming. Ep. 187 Bobby Spencer - That’s When God Says Here You Go!

On this episode of Conversations with Buddy, I sit down with Broadway performer Bobby Spencer to talk about his incredible journey to Broadway!  We talk about growing up in the 1970s, when the radio became his teacher. Artists like the The Everly Brothers shaped his early love for music, and songs like Tom Sawyer by Rush fueled his musical inspiration. Eventually, Bobby made the leap to New York City, walking the streets, playing guitar in the subway, and pursuing the dream of Broadway. That dream became reality. But this conversation goes much deeper than Broadway. Bobby shares about: Experiencing September 11 attacks while living in New YorkTouring internationally, including recording music in Buenos AiresThe power of prayer and faith in JesusHow music can become therapy during hard seasons of lifeHe also talks about a powerful verse that guides his life: Romans 12:21 “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.” 🎸 Music is therapy. Faith brings the light. Ep. 186 Nathan Pendleton - Saved by Grace Fueled by Faith!

On this episode of Conversations with Buddy, I had the honor of sitting down with Nathan Pendleton, a man whose story is marked by courage, perseverance, and deep faith. 🇺🇸💪 Nathan is an Army veteran, a father of two boys—including one with cerebral palsy—and above all, a disciple of Jesus Christ. Our connection came through our mutual friend Mike Peterson, and from the moment we started talking, it was clear that Nathan’s life has been shaped by both intense battles and incredible grace. Like many veterans, Nathan carries the heart of a protector, someone wired to stand in the gap for others. 🛡️❤️ Nathan spent nearly 10 years as a missionary in Nicaragua, pouring his life into serving others and sharing the Gospel. Unfortunately, due to a complicated personal situation and ongoing legal battle, he was deported and cannot yet share all the details. Even in the middle of hardship, though, Nathan’s faith remains unshaken. His life verse, Proverbs 3:5–6, has guided him through uncertainty: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” That trust has carried him through seasons of pain, confusion, and the refining process that so many believers face. 🙏🔥 Nathan also shared his passion for fitness, discipline, and mindset. As a performance-driven athlete, he believes discipline is the key—learning to say “no” to temporary satisfaction in order to pursue long-term purpose… pushing through injuries like a broken tailbone, or battling the mental and emotional challenges that come with PTSD, Nathan emphasized the importance of the internal dialogue we carry. Words are powerful. The question that changed his life was simple but profound: “Who does God say you are?” 💭✝️ One of the most powerful moments in our conversation was when Nathan shared about his moment of salvation. Like the prodigal son, he came to the end of himself and cried out, “Forgive me Father… I’m all Yours.” Through the crushing seasons that humbled him to the core, Nathan discovered his true identity in Christ. He describes himself as “saved by grace and fueled by faith”. That transformation reshaped his life, his fatherhood, and his mission. ❤️🔥 Today, Nathan is working on his real estate license to be a part of the Eric Beechy Real Estate Team, bringing that same servant-hearted mindset into real estate and lending relationships—especially when connecting with VA buyers and sellers. At the end of the day, Nathan’s story is about brotherhood, resilience, and faith—a “ride or die” commitment to Jesus and to the people God places in our lives. 💪🇺🇸🙏 🙏 Subscribe to Conversations with Buddy for more conversations that inspire faith, leadership, and impact. #JesusFollower 🙏 #Discipleship ✝️ #ArmyVet #rideordie #Proverbs3:5-6 #ConversationsWithBuddy 🎙️ _ _ _ For more stories like this, go to: https://www.youtube.com/@BuddyJamesPuckett If you or someone you know want to be on the podcast, please reach out to me on Instagram @conversationswithbuddy or text me at 503-851-8031. Ep. 185 Justin and Emmy Arana - Where God met me in the dirt!

Justin and Emmy Arana join us to share about lifes challenges and how Acres of Hope began! Before we started recording, we paused and prayed 🙏—inviting God into every word of this conversation. At the center of Acres of Hope is genuine faith expressed through love ❤️ and kindness 🤍. Justin and Emmy talk about the seeds we plant in life 🌱—how every action, every response, every act of obedience matters. Some seeds are planted in seasons of joy, others in seasons of pain. But God has a plan for your pain. His plan is beautiful, even when we don’t understand it in the moment. They share how we can’t do this life alone—we need community, an inner circle that prays together and stays together. And we must guard our hearts against comparison, because comparison truly is the thief of joy. One of the most incredible parts of Acres of Hope is the role of horses 🐎. Horses reflect our emotions back to us. They sense fear, confidence, gentleness, and leadership. They demand authenticity. If you come in hard-hearted, they respond to that. If you come in with calm strength and kindness, they respond to that too. It’s powerful to see how God uses these beautiful animals to reveal what’s going on inside of us. Horses become mirrors—teaching leadership, patience, humility, and trust. Justin and Emmy remind us that we will make mistakes—but let’s not keep making the same ones. Growth requires humility. Healing requires honesty. And through it all, God shines His light ✨ into our darkest places. Whether you’re in a waiting season or stepping into something new, remember this: you are loved, your story matters, and God is planting something meaningful in your life. Acres of Hope is a testimony that when faith, love, and kindness come together, transformation happens. 🐎❤️ Reach and get to know Justin and Emmy and learn about their ministry, Acres of Hope! Ep. 184 Pastor Jason Bunse - God’s not done with me!

Meet your new Pastor of Canon Point Church in Salem, OR! 🙏 In this powerful episode of Conversations with Buddy, I sat down with Jason Bunse to talk about a journey that only God could write.  From designer drugs, alcohol, and running hard in the wrong direction… to standing behind a pulpit preaching the Gospel —  Jason’s story is a testimony to the timing and fatherhood of God. What looked like chaos was actually divine pursuit. God wasn’t absent. He was patient. Jason shared the turning point — “I got caught.” The boys in blue. The moment where everything felt like it was over. Broken. Helpless. Chin checked by reality.  But what felt like the end became the beginning. In that place of weakness, he picked up the Bible and started reading the Gospels. And when he encountered the words of Jesus — “Neither do I condemn you” — everything changed. We talked about discipleship, counting the cost, picking your friends wisely, and learning to hear the still small voice of God.  Jason didn’t just have a moment; he had a transformation. From skid row to studying the Book of Acts. From coping with alcohol to carrying the name of Jesus. From overachiever in the streets to surrendered servant of Christ. The full counsel of God!  This episode is a reminder that God is not done with you. He leaves the 99. He redeems the time. He answers prayers. And when He calls you to walk as a man and carry His name, it becomes a badge of honor. If you’ve ever thought, “It’s over,” this conversation will remind you — with God, it’s just getting started. Ep. 183 John Werst (Part 2) - The Upward Call!

This episode with John was outstanding! He just got back from a trip to South Africa in partnership with the BetterMan group to help a ministry organization called “Church in hard places”. John’s heart is for ministry and specifically helping men through his own ministry, “Covenant Group Ministry”.  To help men create new habits, new life skills, recognize the call to brotherhood and how to learn to walk moment by moment by the Holy Spirit! What is the upward calling that God has for our lives on this earth? How do we live in the newness of a life in Christ and bury the old man? How do we know if we are drifting away from the Lord? These are the reasons why this episode is so powerful! Men coming alongside men, with the Word of God and the Spirit of God and allow Christ to change your life! 🙏 This is what John calls… “voluntary accountability”!  It’s your choice if you will or won’t follow Jesus and be accountable to be a better man! From fear to faith, struggles to success, trials, and tribulations to triumph and victory. Where did they muster the courage to overcome and where does their hope come from? What is the lesson life has taught each of these people who share their stories and then be willing to share it with the world?
