    Karina Holmer: Found in a Dumpster, Still No Suspect

    Karina Holmer was 20 years old, from a Swedish village of fewer than a thousand people, and she had exactly two dreams: to travel, and to open a restaurant of her own. The lottery ticket she bought after graduating high school paid for the plane ticket that brought her to Boston in March of 1996. Four months later, she was gone, and thirty years on, no one has been charged. This episode of Crime with Kylie follows Karina's short time in Massachusetts: the au pair job that kept her on call around the clock, the summer solstice night out with friends on June 21, 1996, and the hours after the bar closed when she was last seen on her own. Investigators reportedly interviewed roughly 300 witnesses and came away with accounts that contradicted one another. Then there is the letter Karina Holmer allegedly sent to a friend back in Sweden weeks earlier, saying something terrible had happened and that she would explain it in person when she returned home in August. Authorities have never established whether that letter has anything to do with her death. 🕯️ Karina Holmer's case is a reminder of how much a 1996 criminal investigation had to work without — no widespread surveillance footage, no social media, no phone to trace — and how many cold cases now sit waiting on one person finally deciding to say what they remember. Her purse and cell phone were never recovered. Neither was an answer.     Teen Girls Planned to K*ll a Classmate to "Bring Back" the Sandy Hook Shooter

    In Seminole County, Florida, two teenage girls are facing attempted murder charges as adults after authorities say they spent months planning to attack a 15-year-old classmate at Lake Brantley High School — a boy who, according to reporting on the case, had no connection to either of them beyond a physical resemblance to Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza. In this episode, Kylie walks through how the case allegedly came together: the months of stalking, the Discord conversations, the online alter egos, and the disturbing fixation on Adam Lanza that investigators say drove the plot. She covers how the intended victim's own friend and the boy himself reported the plan through a school-safety tip app before anyone was hurt, how the girls' behavior after their arrest reportedly factored into the judge's decision to deny bond, and the newest developments in the case — including additional charges against one of the girls related to child sexual abuse material found on her phone, and revelations that she had previously been investigated for swatting calls made to the same school.
