    The Reluctant Entrepreneur - Tarot

    The Reluctant Entrepreneur - Tarot

How can our Reluctant Entrepreneur keep learning?

As we wrap up episode 18 and the 4th season, we announce the next iteration of the project for our Reluctant Entrepreneur: A Tarot deck. If you’re not into Tarot, these cards can be used as small micro-learning moments on a couple dozen of the best lessons, reflections, considerations, and insights we’ve covered in the past year on the podcast.

If you are familiar with Tarot, they can be used just like the Major Arcana of a traditional deck for inspiration.

Diana explains how the project evolved into this format, and how she was inspired to map her own experiences and concepts into something tactile.

If you’ve enjoyed the series, you can pre-order the Tarot Card kit here: Reluctant Entrepreneur Tarot - Hawthorne Union

    In this episode we referenced:

    -  The Fool’s Journey is what makes up the first 22 cards in a Tarot deck, also called the Major Arcana. The cards in sequence tell a story, and it’s a commonly cited metaphor for growth and transformational change in one’s life.

    - Listen! Mentor Coaching for Coaches is Diana and I’s first collaboration,  similar bite-size lessons on coaching in a coffee table book format. This is where we tried a similar concept of reading cover to cover, or being able to open a single page and get value from a quick lesson.

    - The Extended Mind: The Power of Thinking Outside the Brain is a book by Annie Murphy Paul that explores how the brain works differently based on the activities we’re doing, and utilizes our body, environment, and the people we’re connected to.

    - Positive Psychology is a branch of psychology that tries to hone in on what is going right in someone’s life and capitalize on that to build a meaningful and purposeful life.

    The Reluctant Entrepreneur - Intuition

    The Reluctant Entrepreneur - Intuition

What does using our intuition feel like?

In this episode, we talk with Diana’s mom, Theresa Lebeiko. Diana considers Theresa to be a huge inspiration and source of support throughout her entrepreneurial journey. She was an English teacher, a vision disability rehabilitation educator, and considers herself a fan of literature and the arts. She talks about her experience with being first-generation college educated, her husband being an entrepreneur, and now supporting Diana through her ventures.

    In this episode, we referenced:

    · The passage that Theresa reads is from Circle of Grace by Jan Richardson, which is a Christian spiritual book of blessings and poems. (affiliate link)

    · Diana outed herself as a picky eater.

    · The song about tacky housing may have been a reference to Little Boxes by Malvina Reynolds.

    The Reluctant Entrepreneur - Drive

    The Reluctant Entrepreneur - Drive

Does having a drive mean non-stop energy in your business?

Diana and I turned the mics back on at the end of last year and caught some thoughts about the Reluctant Entrepreneur project after a Hawthorne Union coach gathering. We discuss the difference between the expectation that commitment and drive to starting a business equate to having non-stop energy and focus. That there can be a way we wish or are told to operate with drive in our business that may not be realistic or sustainable for our reluctant entrepreneurs.

Passion can also be a double-edged sword to blindly march into a business venture, regardless of being viable or not. Jacen considers it a force that needs to be renewed often. Diana sees it as a starting point, but not enough to carry you through running a business.

In this episode we referenced the following:

    - The Disney bumper cars are in reference to Disneyland’s Autopia, also known as Tomorrowland Speedway in Disney World.

    - Here is a snippet of Stephen King talking about his daily word count, in pages. Jacen is a big fan of the Dark Tower series, the first book is The Gunslinger. (Affiliate Link)

    - Jacen heard Neil Gaiman talk about his writing process and limiting his daily word count on the Tim Ferris podcast. Have you heard the audio drama version of The Sandman? (Affiliate Link)

    - The Infinite Game is the latest book from leadership speaker and writer, Simon Sinek.

    - “If you realize that you have enough, you are truly rich.” This is a quote from Lao Tzu, a classic Chinese philosopher who founded Taoism. (Affiliate Link)

    - Stephen Covey’s 2nd habit from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People is “Begin with the End in Mind.” (Affiliate Link).

    - DRiV is a behavioral assessment and 360 leadership report tool.

The Reluctant Entrepreneur - Serial Entrepreneur w/ Berry Worden

Does being considered a Serial Entrepreneur mean you never return to regular work?

Friend of the show Berry Worden comes on to the show to discuss his foray into entrepreneurship. He’s never lost his entrepreneurial spirit, even as he’s transitioned back into regular employment work.

The Reluctant Entrepreneur - Reluctance w/ Michele Rempel

How can we remain open to learning while navigating market disruptions?

Michele Rempel (https://www.linkedin.com/in/michelerempel/) of Westvyne allows Diana and I to come on site to her studio and talk to her about her reluctant entrepreneur journey that stated in education and landed in digital marketing. A few life changes and a customer request really jumpstarted her journey into the career field that she is still in today, but her roots and passion from that educational background is a part of what has made her approach unique to her customers.

She also explores while her family background is not in starting businesses, but she found that once she started one, she was able to start other businesses, such as a creative art side project. What it was like navigating both the recent pandemic and the economic downturn from 2007 – 2009 and what she’s learned after remaining in business after both events.

    In this episode we referenced:

    - The enneagramis a strength-based personality assessment.
