    Episode 92 — Have Parents Ruined Halloween?

    This week on Dad Life, things are getting spooky as Sean and Nick ask a very important question…   Have parents ruined Halloween?   Because Halloween when we were kids felt pretty simple: find a costume, grab the biggest bag you could get away with and disappear around the neighbourhood in pursuit of enough sweets to keep you going until Christmas.   But now?   There are matching family costumes, planned routes, apps, giant decorations, trunk-or-treat events, rules, supervision and enough organisation to make trick-or-treating feel like a military exercise.   So Sean and Nick look back at Halloween then versus now and try to work out whether we’ve genuinely made it better for our kids… or accidentally taken some of the magic out of it.   Along the way we tackle the important stuff:   Is the Dad Tax a legitimate parenting privilege, or just theft with better branding?   Should anyone ever be too old to trick-or-treat?   How scary is too scary when it comes to films, haunted houses and costumes?   At what age do we finally let the kids head out without us?   And why has one night involving costumes and sweets somehow become so bloody expensive?   There are costume battles, neighbourhood decoration arms races, debates over the correct way to maximise your sweet haul and plenty of memories from the Halloweens we grew up with.   But underneath all the laughs is something a little more bittersweet — because as the kids get older, eventually there’ll be a last Halloween where they actually want Dad tagging along.   So grab your pumpkin bucket, prepare to surrender a completely reasonable percentage of your sweets to the Dad Tax, and join Sean and Nick for a nostalgic, slightly argumentative and occasionally sentimental Halloween Dad Life.   Episode 92 — Have Parents Ruined Halloween?   Social Media: Facebook - https://bit.ly/DadCrossing X - https://bit.ly/Dadcrossing TikTok - https://bit.ly/DaDcrossing Discord - https://bit.ly/Dadcrossing-Discord   Email: Team@dadcrossing.com   Website: www.dadcrossing.com

    Episode 91 — Cursed Cars, Gym Goals & Wild News

    Another Tuesday means another Dad Crossing episode, and this week we’re back with an Everyday Life catch-up. Sean starts with the continuing saga of getting the green car back on the road and, somehow, the curse still isn’t finished with him yet. From cars that refuse to make life easy, the conversation moves onto something Sean can at least choose to suffer through — the gym. He talks about pushing harder in training, chasing the goals he’s set himself and trying to keep making progress even when life has other ideas. Nick has had adventures of his own, although his involve slightly fewer broken cars and considerably more dental equipment, as he shares his latest tooth-filling experience and catches us up on what else he’s been getting up to. Then the conversation turns to the shocking events at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, where a man entered a tiger enclosure and was attacked. Sadly, he died at the scene. Sean and Nick talk through what happened, their reactions to the story and the wider questions it raises — while remembering that behind the headlines is a family dealing with something genuinely tragic. And, because this is still Dad Crossing, there’s plenty of gaming chat, random detours and the usual squirrel moments thrown in along the way.     Episode 90 — Their Life, Our Post?

    This week it’s time for our first Dad Topic under the new Dad Crossing format, and we’re tackling something that probably affects most parents without us really stopping to think about it…   Are we sharing too much of our kids’ lives online?   From the proud first-day-of-school photo to birthdays, holidays, funny stories and those moments that are simply too good not to share — as parents, documenting our kids growing up has become completely normal.   But where’s the line?   Sean and Nick talk about the positives of sharing family life online, but also the things that make the subject a little more uncomfortable.   At what age should our kids get a say in what we post about them?   Does something being funny or harmless to us mean they’ll feel the same way about it in ten years?   What happens to all those photos, videos and stories once they’ve become part of a digital footprint our children never actually chose to create?   And perhaps most awkwardly of all…   Are we guilty of it too?   Dad Crossing has always involved stories about our lives as dads — and naturally that sometimes means talking about our kids.     Episode 89 — New Format, Same Two Dads

    Things are changing a little around here. Sean kicks off Episode 89 with a bit of housekeeping and explains how Dad Crossing is going to work from here on out — one episode a week, dropping on a Tuesday, and alternating between our Everyday Life episodes and Dad Topic episodes. Once all the sensible stuff is out of the way, we get back to what we do best… Catching up and talking absolute nonsense. Nick gives us an update on how his current weight loss journey is going, while Sean talks a little about how he’s been feeling over the last week and also takes a moment to apologise for last week’s episode arriving a bit later than planned. From there, as always, the conversation wanders wherever it feels like going. There are life updates, dad chat, tangents, laughs and all the usual bits that somehow find their way into an Everyday Life episode. So while the way the episodes come out might be changing… The two dads behind the microphones definitely aren’t.     Episode 88 — Muted Mics, Medals & Minor Surgery

    It’s another one of those longer catch-up episodes because Sean and Nick haven’t had a proper chance to sit down and chat for a while. And naturally, we start things off in the most Dad Crossing way possible… By realising we’d spent the first few minutes talking without actually recording any sound. Don’t worry though — you didn’t miss much. Honest. 😂 Once the microphones are definitely working, Nick gets us up to speed with his daughter’s soccer tournament, where her team managed to come away as runners-up — a brilliant result and definitely something worth celebrating. Sean then somehow takes us from LEGO Smart Bricks to a small amount of toe surgery happening at work, which is probably a sentence that only makes sense on this podcast. From there, we catch up on some much-needed family time, the games we’ve both been playing, what life has been throwing at us lately, and some of the things we’ve got planned coming up. As usual, there are plenty of tangents, plenty of laughs and absolutely no guarantee we stay on topic for very long.     Dad Life 87-2 — How Young Is Too Young?

    This week’s Dad Life takes us into one of those parenting conversations where there really doesn’t seem to be a simple answer. After coming across the story of a Virginia mum who allowed her 5-year-old son to walk to a nearby pond by himself, Sean and Nick found themselves asking the obvious question… Would we let our kids do that at five? And if the answer is no… when does it become okay? The guys talk through how much independence they’re comfortable giving their own kids, whether age is even the best way of judging when a child is ready, and how much things like where you live, the distance involved and the individual kid should factor into that decision. Then there’s the slightly awkward bit… Because when Sean and Nick think back to what they were doing as young’uns, things were definitely a little different. 😂 Were kids given more freedom back then? Are parents more cautious now? Or were our parents just slightly more relaxed about whether we returned home in one piece? And while neither of the guys is completely comfortable with the idea of a 5-year-old wandering off alone, they also question whether the punishment handed to the mum in this case was proportionate to what actually happened. So prepare yourselves for plenty of umming, ahhing and changing our minds mid-sentence as two dads attempt to navigate a parenting question with a lot more grey than black and white.     Everyday Life 87-1 — Foldables, Fixes & Work Woes

    Sean and Nick are back for another catch-up, and this week there’s plenty to get through! First up, Apple has apparently decided that what everyone really needs is a very expensive device that folds in half. Sean is firmly in the “yeah… that’s probably not for me” camp, while Nick is already looking at it like something that might mysteriously find its way into his hands somewhere down the line. From expensive tech to considerably less glamorous problems, the guys also catch up on some DIY that hasn’t exactly gone to plan over the last week — because nothing says adulthood quite like starting what should be a simple job and immediately questioning every decision that led you there. Sean also manages to squeeze in his customary moan about work — because it simply wouldn’t be an Everyday Life episode without one. But it’s not all doom, gloom and questionable home improvements… Both of the guys have actually managed to fit in some gaming, so at least something has gone right!     Dad Life 86-2 — It’s Back to School You Go!

    For once… we actually managed to record a Dad Life episode! 🎉 And with the summer holidays over, there was really only one place to start: It’s back to school you go! After weeks of later nights, longer lie-ins and routines slowly disappearing into the abyss, it’s time to start dragging the kiddos back towards something resembling normality. We chat about getting bedtimes and mornings back under control, what the kids are actually looking forward to about being back at school, and — probably more importantly — what they’re really not looking forward to. But while we were talking about how much the kids need routine, we realised something… So do we. Turns out dads are creatures of habit too. Long school breaks can completely throw off the rhythm of everyday life, from mornings and meal times to work, exercise, gaming and just generally knowing what day of the week it is. So while the kids might be heading back into classrooms, we’re also trying to get ourselves back into the swing of normal life.
