You’d never go into battle without armor, so why do we get sent into the dumpster fire of medicine without the tools needed to protect ourselves? The current state of medicine can take altruistic, purpose-driven, bright young minds and turn them into frustrated, disillusioned and exhausted shells of their former selves. How do we know? We’ve been there. And we’ve seen it happen to our peers.
We are The Whole Physician, 3 Board Certified Emergency Physicians, who think it’s time to change the culture of medicine. We will teach you the ideas and tools we learned from mindset and life coach training that brought joy back into our lives. That fixed relationships. That eased the endless brain chatter. That helped us sleep better at night and made us excited to get out of bed each day.
Our mission is you, the doctors who keep showing up despite it all. You are our people. It’s about time someone put you first.

    Key Points Discussed:

Introduction to Nicoya, Costa Rica: The hosts discuss how this Blue Zone is known for its exceptional longevity, where men have twice the likelihood of living until 90 compared to the U.S., with significantly lower health expenditures.

The Importance of Community and Lifestyle: The episode highlights the significant impact of community, traditional diets, and active lifestyles on longevity. Nicoyans engage in natural daily movements rather than structured exercise, emphasizing the role of environment and learned behaviors over genetics in longevity.

Dietary Habits: Traditional diets in Nicoya focus on plant-based foods, particularly the "three sisters" of beans, corn, and squash. The preparation methods, such as soaking corn in lime, are discussed for their health benefits, including the prevention of rickets and the promotion of better bone health.

Public Health Success: The effectiveness of Costa Rica's rural healthcare system, which focuses on preventative care and regular household visits, is credited with significant improvements in community health metrics like reduced infant mortality and increased life expectancy.

Cultural and Environmental Factors: The discussion extends to the roles of faith, family bonds, and the sunny, dry climate of Nicoya in fostering a healthy, stress-reduced lifestyle.

Challenges of Modernization: The hosts also touch on the challenges posed by increased connectivity, tourism, and the influx of modern lifestyle elements like junk food and social media, which may dilute traditional practices that contribute to longevity.

Episode Conclusion:The episode wraps up with a call to action for listeners to integrate lessons from Nicoya into their lives, emphasizing the importance of maintaining strong social connections, engaging in regular physical activity, and adhering to a diet rich in whole foods. Vitamin D

I love VitaminD and take some daily! BUT Laura really it is Not magical. In fact most INSURANCES will not pay for a level because of lack of proof. Only those who are mal absorbing should be followed (post Bariatric Surgery is biggest class).. Needless to say LTC pts likewise often are high risk. But … Eat Well and all these vitamins can be Avoided!!
