"For a whole lot of the church around the world, no one's making disciples, and they don't know how, and they've never really been discipled in all of life and they've never seen it. So they don’t know how to get started with true discipleship communities. Here's the question to ask yourself: ‘Am I willing to be part of forging new rhythms in my life, in our church and family so that others can see and experience this kingdom of God up close?’ Will YOU be the one to change this? Get started and learn and move and start to create new rhythms."

Can Starfish Help Us Reimagine Church?

Can Starfish Help Us Reimagine Church?

The Church was originally a decentralized movement. Before everything became housed in church buildings with hierarchical leadership, the priesthood of all believers was equipped and sent to make disciples.
In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, Caesar talks with Rob Wegner and Lance Ford about why the distributed structures of 'starfish' organizations uniquely fit the church today. Just like a starfish can reproduce itself fully from only one of its legs, churches with this type of regenerative ability are much more nimble in reacting to external change and outside forces.
    In This Episode You’ll Learn:
The difference between "spider" and "starfish" organizations.
How embracing the starfish's reproductive ability changes the way we lead the church.
Why equipping is job #1 for pastors and leaders in the church today.
How every Believer carries the full DNA of a disciple-making movement.

    From this episode:
"Leaders need to do an honest heart evaluation, asking themselves, 'how much equipping of the saints am I really doing for ministry out there–not just church service jobs and activities?' Remember, equipping is different from teaching. Equipping is a relational transaction that is personal and requires time and gives people the freedom to grow as they learn, and learn as they go."

Are Your Church Elders Really Deacons? (And vice versa)

Are Your Church Elders Really Deacons? (And vice versa)

A lot of men called 'elders' in the Church today are not functioning as biblical elders. Maybe what they are actually doing is a lot closer to the work of the deacons?
Many cling to their titles when in fact they're not leading God’s people by example on the only mission Jesus gave his church: make disciples.
In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, Caesar goes deep into the examples and commands in the Bible concerning the role, tone, and function of early church elders and deacons. We need a lot more of this today!
    In This Episode You’ll Learn:
Where early church elders were found and how they were appointed.
What happened after deacons were first established in the church. Surprising!
The living, present example our church elders should play in disciple-making.
What to do if your elders are NOT functioning as biblical elders.

    From this episode:
"If the pastors and elders in the church are supposed to be role models for the rest of the people, showing them how to live and make disciples as Jesus did, shouldn’t our elders have loads of not-yet-believing friends? I’m not talking about acquaintances. I’m talking about relationships... friends. Shouldn’t our elders, our “examples to the flock”, be rock-star disciple-makers, living the same way Jesus and his disciples did?"

    From this episode:
“Starting over with sharing your faith should start where things should have started in the first place… helping people in our lives see God’s love, patience, pursuit and care. Helping them see his heart and move closer to him. Our goal is not just for that person to like us or think we’re great, our hope and goal is that our lives, our words and actions would glorify God.”

Being Salt and Light in Our Divided Culture

Being Salt and Light in Our Divided Culture

Clearly, we live in an increasingly divided culture. Do we retreat or do we engage this cultural chasm with a person-to-person and systemic response? Maybe, as Jesus said, we can begin to live as both SALT and LIGHT despite our differences.
In this episode of the Everyday Disciple Podcast, Caesar shows us three very important ways of living as salt and light in our divided culture. This is a “head, heart, hands” approach you can begin today.
    In This Episode You’ll Learn:
A surprising list of the things that are dividing our culture today.
Why we want to start advocating for the underdog.
How erring on the side of grace changes us–and them.
Ways to keep an open door and an open mind.

    From this episode:
“Hanging out with and defending broken, messy people–or those that have very different opinions than us–can be hard to do. When you stick up for those on the “wrong side of the tracks” or the wrong side of an issue, you’re actually showing love to Jesus. “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.” Jesus did not say to live this way only when we are in agreement with that person.”

Believers for 30 years -we’ve never heard teaching like this!

My husband and I have been changed by listening to Everyday Disciple. Our mindset has shifted from “me-centered” to discipleship-focused. We’ve been listening ever since we participated in the Everyday Disciples Challenge a few months ago and we are surprised each time we listen to a new podcast. We often have to hit pause because our minds are blown by what we are hearing. I can’t believe I’ve been following Jesus for 30 years and I’ve missed so much of this! I am so thankful that we found Everyday Disciple and this podcast. We are taking steps now towards making disciples because of the practical teaching we are receiving from Caesar.
