    Top Gun (1986)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris head into the Danger Zone and discuss the 1986 classic Top Gun as it celebrates its 40th anniversary. Tom Cruise stars as Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, who, along with his best friend and Radar Intercept Officer (RIO) Nick "Goose" Bradshaw (Anthony Edwards), is given the opportunity to attend Top Gun, aka Naval Fighter Weapons School, with the best pilots in the Navy.  His reckless flying style puts him into conflict with Tom "Iceman" Kazansky (Val Kilmer), the best pilot in the class, and he also pursues Top Gun's civilian instructor, Charlotte "Charlie" Blackwood (Kelly McGillis).  Zach and Chris discuss how weirdly sweaty everyone is for the entire movie, Iceman needing to take some of the blame for Goose's death, a potential prequel involving Maverick's father, Kenny Loggins' dominance of 80s movie soundtracks, who the US is actually in conflict with in the final battle sequence, and more. You can watch Top Gun on Paramount+ or Pluto TV (and if you see this before the 21st, you can probably head out to a theater near you to see it there).  Next week, we're performing some car fu and discussing Speed Racer as it hits 4K for the first time. We want to hear your comments and feedback.  Send them all to contact@everythingaction.com.  Also, let us know your movie suggestions for us to discuss. Punisher: War Zone (2008)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris take on the mob with Frank Castle and discuss 2008's Punisher: War Zone as we gear up for The Punisher: One Last Kill on May 12th and The Punisher's appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day later this summer. The third movie based on the Marvel Comics vigilante, Punisher: War Zone sees the late Ray Stevenson starring as Frank Castle, who is six years into his mission to wipe out criminals.  After attacking the mob family led by Don Cesare (John Dunn-Hill), Frank is shocked to learn that one of the men he killed was actually an undercover FBI agent, and he tries to make amends to the agent's widow, played by Julie Benz.  He'll later protect her and her daughter from Billy Russoti, who was horrifically disfigured by Frank and now goes by Jigsaw (Dominic West). Zach and Chris discuss the oddly large number of side plots, almost everyone doing some sort of crazy accent, the ridiculously over-the-top violence, how it compares to the comics and other adaptations, Jigsaw's extremely lucrative deal with the FBI, and more. You can watch Punisher: War Zone on The Roku Channel, Hoopla, or Fawesome.  Next week, we're heading into the Danger Zone and discussing the 1986 classic Top Gun as it turns 40. We want to hear your comments and feedback.  Send them all to contact@everythingaction.com.  Also, let us know your movie suggestions for us to discuss. Man on Fire (2004)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris head to Mexico City on a mission of vengeance with Denzel Washington and discuss the 2004 Tony Scott movie, Man on Fire, as a new version of the story hits Netflix. Based on the novel by A.J. Quinnell, Denzel Washington stars as John Creasy, a former Marine and CIA operative who is racked by guilt from his past actions and has become an alcoholic.  Visiting his friend Paul Rayburn (Christopher Walken) in Mexico City, Creasy takes a job guarding the daughter of wealthy automaker Samuel Ramos (Marc Anthony), Pita Ramos (Dakota Fanning).  While distant at first, Pita's persistent precociousness breaks through his hard shell.  When Pita is kidnapped and believed to be dead when the ransom money drop goes bad, Creasy vows to track down and kill everyone involved.  Zach and Chris discuss the movie's frenetic, music-video style, Christopher Walken's food-acting, how often Creasy uses rectal bombs on people, how none of the kidnapping organization poses a physical threat to Creasy, how everything that happens is because of insurance, and more. You can watch Man on Fire on Starz.  Next week, we're continuing the vengeance with Punisher: War Zone, as we get ready for both The Punisher: One Last Kill and Jon Bernthal's appearance in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The Quest (1996)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris enter the Ghang-gheng and discuss Jean-Claude Van Damme's directorial debut, The Quest, which turns 30 this weekend. In addition to directing, JCVD stars as Chris Dubois, a thief in 1925 New York City who protects a gang of children.  Forced to flee after stealing cash owned by the mob, Chris finds himself left on Muay Thai Island after getting caught in several shady deals by pirate and con artist Lord Edward Dobbs (Roger Moore).  After months of brutal training, he becomes a skilled Muay Thai fighter and reunites with Dobbs in Bangkok at an underground fight.  Chris convinces Dobbs and his partner, Harry Smythe (Jack McGee), to help him get to a secretive tournament in Tibet, the Ghang-gheng, where they can try to acquire the tournament's massive trophy, a golden dragon.  Zach and Chris try to figure out what the rules of Ghang-ghen actually are, how heavyweight boxer Maxie Devine (James Remar) was supposed to compete with martial artists, what Chris's tragic backstory is, old man JCVD, and more. 5. Everything Action Commentary: The Mummy (1932)

    APR 23 ·  BONUS VIDEO

Everything Action Commentary: The Mummy (1932)

For the latest Everything Action Commentary, with Lee Cronin's The Mummy out in theaters this month, Zach and Chris went back to where it all began and watched the original 1932 classic, The Mummy. Starring Boris Karloff, coming off his star-making turn in Frankenstein, as Imhotep, he's an Egyptian high priest who was cursed and buried alive when he tried to use the sacred Scroll of Thoth to bring his beloved Ankh-es-en-Amon back to life.  Unearthed by archaeologists in 1921, Imhotep rises from the dead and assumes the guise of Ardeth Bay to continue his plan to resurrect his love, whom he believes is now reincarnated as Helen Grosvenor (Zita Johann). While watching the film, Zach and Chris discuss how Karloff is only in his iconic bandage look for the opening scene, the similarities and differences compared to the 1999 The Mummy, Frank Whemple (David Manners) being attracted to a dead mummy, Imhotep's magic water TV, why Imhotep doesn't just remotely kill everybody, and more. You can rent or buy The Mummy on Prime Video, Apple TV, or Fandango at Home and sync up our commentary track to watch along with the Everything Action crew. We want to hear your comments and feedback.  Send them all to contact@everythingaction.com.  Also, let us know your movie suggestions for us to discuss. The Phantom (1996)

This week on the Everything Actioncast, Zach and Chris slam evil and discuss 1996's The Phantom, which just got released on 4K. Billy Zane plays Kit Walker, aka The Phantom, a pulp superhero who battles pirates and other evildoers from his island home of Bengalla.  When evil businessman Xander Drax (Treat Williams) begins hunting for a trio of powerful artifacts, the Skulls of Touganda, Kit has to team up with his former girlfriend, Diana Palmer (Kristy Swanson), to try and get the Skulls before Drax.  Zach and Chris discuss Treat Williams's wonderfully evil performance, whether Kit could always fire a laser from his skull ring and just didn't know it, the pirate hideout that looks like a dinner theater, whether seeing ghosts is a Phantom power or just mental illness, and more. You can grab the aforementioned new 4K version of The Phantom, or buy or rent it on Prime Video, Fandango at Home, Apple TV, or YouTube.  Next week, we're diving into Jean Claude Van Damme's directorial debut, The Quest, as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.
