Expositional Excerpts

There is one goal with each episode: take a verse of scripture, or part of a verse, or even a few verses and look at them in their context to find the meaning of that text. Furthermore, this will be a systematic approach, meaning that it won't be random verses picked here and there, but will work through entire books of the Bible. The aim of this is to make the Bible accessible to virtually any audience and to keep it on the shorter side.     Revelation 19:3-5

    Revelation 19:1-5 covers the topic of "Praising God's Judgment." In this section we are working with the idea that We must learn to praise God in all things! To do this we will examine several traits of praise in these verses. In v. 1a we discussed 1) The Occasion of Praise. Then, in vv. 1, 3, 4, and 6 we examined 2) The Calls to praise. In vv. 1b-2 we looked at 3) The Content of the First Praise. Today, we wrap up this section by looking first in v. 3 at 4) The Content of the Second Praise.     Revelation 18:21-24 covers the third and final part of "A Dirge for Babylon." We are still working with the idea that We must understand God’s judgment against Babylon! In vv. 1-3 we saw that 1) We must understand the pronouncement of his judgment. Then, in vv. 4-5 we learned that 2) We must understand the call to avoid his judgment. In vv. 6-8 we saw that 3) We must understand the definition of his judgment. In vv. 9-19 we learned the 4) We must understand the lament of those judged. In v. 20 we saw that 5) We must understand the joy that his judgment will bring. Now, in v. 21 we see that 6) We must understand the picture of God's judgment. And in v. 22, we unpacked the idea that 7) We must understand the totality of God's judgment. Then, we start discussing the idea that 8) We must understand the reasons for his judgment. Here, in v. 23b we discovered the first reason is a) She practiced deceptive sorcery.
