Fr Gerry Proctor MBE Episode 5 This is Fr Gerry Proctor MBE ’s life story A Roman Catholic Priest with the Archdiocese of Liverpool. In this episode Fr Gerry Proctor heads off to Adelaide Australia to study base Christian Communities with the intention of bringing this idea into Liverpool. Now home as Parish Priest for the Parish of St Margaret Mary’s, Piltch Lane, Liverpool. Pulling together the Anglican community and the Catholic Communities, developing the ecumenical church. And filming a fly on the wall documentary for 6 months with Granada TV. 2004 Fr Gerry Proctor is back in South America training in Spanish . Then we go to today’s ambitions and achievements in Liverpool. Fr Gerry Proctor has written a PHD Thesis an MPhil at Liverpool Hope University based on works in South America and St Margaret Marys - ‘The future of the church as a place for small communities’ Fr Gerry Proctor has received a MBE for works in the Liverpool Community , Engage Liverpool. Now he is working with the De La Salle brothers to create a catering school The La Salle Hotel School in Croxteth. He needs to raise £2 million to realise the next project / dream . Fr Gerry Proctor talks about his mission work community projects in 1980s South America. Ecuador working with the youth. Teaching life skills. In Bolivia 1989/1990 close encounters with gun men, raids. Working in Bolivia for 2 years in a Latin American prison with Cafod, getting prisoners released. Then the call back came from the Diocese of Liverpool. We hear stories from the journey home. The stories follow Fr Gerry Proctor’s move from South America back to Liverpool. Now back in Liverpool, Fr Gerry Proctor is given the role as Parish Priest for the Parish of St Margaret Mary’s, Piltch Lane, Liverpool. Feeling totally inspired by his travels.     In this episode Dr Anne Merriman is now a Roman Catholic Nun with the Medical Missionaries of Mary (MMMs), founded by Mother Mary Martin. Here she talks about graduating in Ireland as a Doctor in 1963. Now as a newly qualified Doctor with a dream of working in Africa her first post was to work in Nigeria. She shares here medical stories of life in Nigeria. Having worked for 10 years in Nigeria she heads back to the Medical Missionaries of Mary (MMMs) in Ireland. They want her to get more medical qualifications to specialise as a physician so off she goes to the University of Edinburgh. After Edinburgh Dr Anne goes back to Nigeria until she follows a new calling. She decides after many years to leave the religious life. Dr Anne comes home to Liverpool look after her Mother. We finish here with her decision in 1973 to leave her permanent vows giving up her life as a nun with the Medical Missionaries of Mary MMMs and come home to Liverpool. Join us for the next episode.
