Foster Care Unveiled

This is a fantastic, informative podcast that everyone involved with CPS should listen to, including biological parents, foster parents, social workers, judges, court-appointed specialized advocates (CASAs), attorneys, policy makers, teachers, guidance counselors, principals, etc. Each episode, Anne interviews a different person involved in the foster care system, including an ex-CPS worker and a current CASA. The information and insight these experts—and Anne herself—bring to the discussion of foster care is insightful and invaluable and definitely has given me a clearer understanding of how it all works. I highly recommend this Foster Care Unveiled! My only complaint is that there aren’t more episodes!

Disappointing podcast; most definitely from the perspective of the system & those who benefit financially from the system.

This podcast is clearly from the perspective of a foster parent who thought fostering was the way to get the child they couldn’t have. That is not what fostering is supposed to be. This person has very little regard for biologically families and little respect for the goal of trying to reunify kids with their biological parents. Research shows that kids removed from their homes have worse future outcomes than kids who’s families receive services and are reunited with their bio parents. The way the host talks about “parental rights” as though it’s a ridiculous notion is extremely problematic. If you want to know the truth about foster care read the book Shattered Bonds. I’m a CASA advocate by the way so I come to my opinion from a very informed place. This woman should never have gotten into fostering because she went in the the wrong understanding. I’m her mind she was going to rescue a poor child from evil parents and save the day and when that wasn’t the way it went down she got upset about it. Having to respect and put efforts towards reunification of her foster child with their bio family didnt fit with the vision she had for becoming a child’s new hero mommy. I am so disappointed in this podcast.

This podcast was helpful in understanding the roles and perspectives of each role in the team. It was nice to hear their frustrations and what they do find helpful.
