The Free Birth Podcast explores what it means to have full autonomy and choice during pregnancy and childbirth. In a technologically obsessed culture where obstetrics has taken over the managment of women's births in the last century, we now find ourselves with an epidemic of surgical births, countless traumatizing birth stories and a deeply imbedded resistance to the normalcy of birth. Pregnancy is treated as an illness and childbirth as an emergency from which women and babies need to be saved.

Before there were doctors, even midwives, there was just...birth. Women have been successfully birthing healthy babies for as long as we have been alive. Birth is a normal physiological event that rarely needs true medical intervention. To free birth is typically associated with the term unassisted childbirth, meaning a person is choosing to birth without medical assistance and is managing her own care.

This podcast is a virtual corner of the universe to celebrate and validate the movement to reclaim birth as our own. Birth is not a medical event. Join us this year as we discuss legal and human rights in childbirth, investigate the different models of care, and hear from women around the world as they tell their stories of birthing freely.

*Our intention with this podcast is to lift the voices of people making the decision to opt out of the default medical system and treat their pregnancy and birth as a non medical event, doing what they feel is safest for their babies.

This podcast does not suggest that everyone should be seeking similar birthing choices, or that it is the right and only way, but rather to highlight that for some people who choose, free birth is a perfectly safe and viable option. There is enough room in this world for everyone's personal choices, in birth and beyond.

Such a good foundation

I came to the decision to free birth and this podcast was the most useful ressource throughout my pregnancy to do so. I learned so much. I am so grateful for it. It’s almost binge listening worthy just like certain Netflix shows!

Birth in Power & Heal the world💕

This podcast is powerful. It unpacks and uncovers all the lies and abuse that are perpetuated in the modern westernized patriarchal medical birthing system. The stories on this podcast have enlightened me in to see that Birth is just that, birth, a physiological and biological event that functions best when left alone without interventions. I am so glad I am learning this information prior to having children of my own! This podcast is great for women of all ages—we need to be preparing women for birth while they are young like women once did in a village setting so they do not grow up brainwashed by the media thinking birth is a terrible experience and that our bodies are broken! I highly recommend you dive into this podcast if you are ready to hear some magical birth stories and a few truth bombs along the way. ✨✨✨

Everyone should listen to this podcast

I recommend this podcast to every pregnant person I meet, and to their partners, family, and friends. Not because I believe freebirth is for everyone (we should all birth where we feel safest, and many people feel safest in the hospital because that’s what they have been taught, something that Emilee talks about in many episodes), but because I believe that everyone has the right to hear the stories of women who give birth undisturbed and without the interference of the [broken] obstetrics system. We have no knowledge as a culture of what physiological birth looks like — most doctors in United States have never even seen a birth proceed without medical interference — and this podcast is vital medicine for the disease of obstetric violence. Thank you Emilee for the lifechanging gift of your work ❤️❤️
