Free Birth Society

Emilee Saldaya

The Free Birth Society Podcast features honest, gripping, inspiring, and transformative freebirth stories hosted by the founder Emilee Saldaya in conversation with wild women worldwide. In the vast tapestry of childbirth experiences, a thread runs undisturbed, unmedicated, and true to its ancestral roots: freebirth. This differs from your usual home birth with doulas or midwives in attendance. Freebirth stands apart, where birthing is solely in the hands of the birthing woman, accompanied only by her intuition, rhythms of nature, witnessed by her family. The Free Birth Podcast invites you to a unique corner of the universe where we dive deep into the raw essence of birth, untamed and unassisted. Pushing against the tides of modern obstetrics and its violent approach, we venture into stories of women who've boldly chosen to claim this primal rite of passage. Here, we're not merely sharing tales; we're challenging the status quo and redefining the very narrative of childbirth. As we unravel discussions on rights in childbirth, dissect varied care models, and amplify the unfiltered voices of freebirthing women from around the planet, our purpose remains clear: to spotlight the distinction and significance of wild birth. This isn't an argument against the myriad ways women choose to birth, but rather an affirmation that freebirth has its revered space in the continuum of birth choices. Join us in celebrating a movement that underscores the powerful message and has changed the lives of thousands: Birth, in its purest form, is not a medical event but a profoundly personal journey. The Free Birth Society Podcast is your compass to navigate and rediscover that journey. *Freebirth = Birthing in the absence of any hired professionals, away from medical institutions or their agents. Also known as family birth, unassisted birth, wild birth. *Sovereign birth = Birthing outside of the medical paradigm, inclusive of births with authentic midwives and doulas. We include many stories on the show where women birthed outside of the medical system with doulas and radical birth keepers. While these births are not freebirths, they are certainly sovereign births!

The Mother–Daughter Freebirth Duo: Jinny & Audrey’s Stories

This week on the Free Birth Society Podcast, Emilee sits down with Jinny and Audrey, a remarkable mother–daughter duo with sovereign birth woven through both of their lives. Jinny, a mother of seven and birth doula, shares how her third birth became a freebirth when she decided not to return to the hospital after feeling mistreated during labor check-in. Jinny shares the story of her four vaginal breech births, surprise twins, and an unwavering confidence in her body. Audrey, a Radical Birth Keeper graduate and freebirth entrepreneur, assumed that she would never have children. But when she found herself pregnant in her thirties, she quickly opted out of the obstetrical track. After navigating a shocking breech birth in the OR with 18 people watching, followed by an upsetting midwife-attended homebirth, Audrey knew she was ready to claim freebirth from that point on. Together, Jinny and Audrey share stories of breech babies, surprise twins, precipitous birth, and the lessons of sovereignty. Audrey also speaks candidly about navigating backlash and public scrutiny—and how she continues to find the will to keep going. ✨Start Your Journey: The Complete Guide to Freebirth - Our best-selling, self-paced course for women ready to claim their births on their own terms. Choosing a wild pregnancy, she hired a Radical Birth Keeper graduate to hold space as she walked this sacred path. She opens up about the challenges she faced postpartum with nursing and her child’s tongue tie, reflecting on what she might do differently now. 15. Mother of Nine: Radical Wisdom from Two Decades of Birth

After six births within the system—including a cesarean at 37 weeks due to partial placenta previa and subsequent hospital abuse—Ashleigh knew she was done. Now a mother of nine and a Radical Birth Keeper School graduate, Ashleigh joins me to share her accumulated wisdom from nearly twenty years of mothering and birthing. We met in person at Matriarch Rising Festival, and in this conversation, we explore what it means to truly live the lessons that birth offers us. We discuss the pros and cons of having children present during birth, what it looks like to honor our evolving faith journeys, and how Ashleigh navigated the tension between her freebirth path and her husband’s discomfort with it. I also challenge Ashleigh’s decision to pull away from her Christian audience, encouraging her to consider what it might mean to let her community see her more deeply. She speaks vulnerably about her own healing from rage and how she now coaches mothers who find themselves lashing out at their children—because she’s been there too. Come listen, learn, and receive from a mother of nine whose story carries the depth and clarity only time, experience, and devotion can bring. ✨Start Your Journey: The Complete Guide to Freebirth - Our best-selling, self-paced course for women ready to claim their births on their own terms. 14. The Heroine’s Adventure with THINX Founder Miki Agrawal

This week on the Free Birth Society Podcast, I sit down with Miki Agrawal—serial entrepreneur, cultural disruptor, and unapologetic creative force. From opening New York City’s first gluten-free, farm-to-table pizza restaurant, to founding THINX, to launching TUSHY and Hiro Diapers, Miki has built a life out of challenging taboos and reimagining the everyday. Together, we explore what it means to know who you are and stay steadfast in that truth—even in the face of cancel culture. Miki shares how she rose above public attack, what female entrepreneurial life has really demanded of her, and why she’s so passionate about rethinking the most basic human habits—from ditching toilet paper in favor of water, to creating the first plastic-eating mushroom-spore diaper. This is a conversation about creativity, courage, and the heroine’s adventure of living boldly, building fearlessly, and standing firmly in who you are. ✨Are you a sovereign birth professional and want to be listed? 13. Claiming It All: Celia’s Story of Birth, Power, and Simplicity

This week, I am joined by Celia from the Bay Area, California, who shares her journey from birthing with medical midwives and working as a doula, to stepping fully into sovereign birth work and choosing freebirth with her fourth child. Born at home herself, Celia’s path was forever changed when she read Portal and began to unravel everything she thought she knew about birth. As a graduate of the Radical Birth Keeper School, she now carries this work forward in her own community. Celia reflects on her four births, including the painful memory of her midwife pulling out her placentas. She shares how, in her fourth and most recent birth, allowing her placenta to be born in her own way and her own time became her favorite part of the entire experience. In this conversation, Celia names what it means to let birth be simple, to trust herself, and to claim it all. ✨ Join The Lighthouse — A private, life-changing membership space for conscious, sovereign women.
