Episode 071: Tin and Tina (2023)

Episode 071: Tin and Tina (2023)

In this episode, we dig into the mailbag of listener suggestions seeking some horror to gear us up for the coming of Halloween. This leads us once more to the land of Netflix for a directorial debut feature. So join us as we check out Rubin Stein's Tin and Tina from 2023. Dustin eagerly dispels the running gag that he hates all things Netflix with some high praise for the film. Meanwhile, Jason questions just how far a parent's unconditional love can go in the wake of our titular children's' antics. But before all that, Dustin's enthusiasm for a paranormal documentary leaves Jason reeling as we find ourselves in a very real Mulder/Scully situation. And so much more!
Special thanks to Jada for suggesting we check this one out. Got a movie you champion? A hidden gem you think needs more love? Just want to see more discussion on a particular film? Episode 070: Star of David: Beautiful Girl Hunter (1979)

In this episode, we wrap up our exploration of Nikkatsu's legendary Roman Porno series for the time being. For our last pick, Jason has selected a surprisingly relevant film blending together elements we examined in the prior two episodes. So join us as we check out Norifumi Suzuki's wild Star of David: Beautiful Girl Hunter from 1979. Dustin tries to weave the connected elements between all three films for this block while marveling at the vague profundity of the film. Jason, however, tries to articulate why the movie just falls a little short of having that special something to it. But before all that, we weigh in on Netflix's One Piece and the current state of live action anime adaptations. And so much more!

So join us as we check out Alejandro Amenábar's Open Your Eyes from 1997. Dustin lays down some connections with other beloved mind-bending flicks; some of which we've covered for prior episodes. Jason throws some shade at the film's Tom Cruise helmed American remake Vanilla Sky. But before all that, the trailer for the new Exorcist movie is upon us and the hosts aren't so sure how ready they are for another round of whatever was going on with the most recent Halloween trilogy. A superior find

After getting caught up in the discourse surrounding the movie “The Sound of Freedom” I got in the mood for a deep dive into another flick that exploited the people it purported to elevate- “Cannibal Holocaust”. I listened to 25 different podcasts and found 20 repeated the same conversations, largely reading aloud the entries on the movie from Wikipedia and IMDB. This podcast was one of the 5 that stood out enough for me to listen to more of their back catalogue. At the end of the day, this is one of the 4 that I subscribed to, finding that it has discourse and content that you won’t find on the vast majority of other podcasts. I hope you enjoy it as well.

Check it out!

A fun engaging podcast whose only downside is my hurts from buying all the movies they talk about. They cover a broad range of genre films and In always excited for the next episode.
