He explains why he pivoted to IndyCar, recounts his 2021 Barber test and Indy Grand Prix debut, and shares views on Indy's global racing influence and what IndyCar needs to grow internationally. Our conversation covers teamwork, strategy, risk-taking, favorite tracks, Indy 500 traditions, and his life in Indiana, including golf, the Monon, and local favorites. His Professor Said Racing Wasn't a Real Career | Ed Carpenter, ECR

On today's show I sat down with Indiana native, IndyCar driver, and team owner Ed Carpenter who talks about Indy 500 pressure, building an IndyCar team, and having Indiana pride. Carpenter raced USAC through high school and college, balancing racing while earning a marketing degree from Butler University, where he was even given a D by a professor for having an "unrealistic five-year plan." He debuted in IndyCar in 2003 and the Indy 500 in 2004, and helped build and later shut down his family's Vision Racing. He founded Ed Carpenter Racing in 2012 with partners including Stuart Reed, launching during a new chassis cycle, and sustaining 15 seasons through perseverance and funding swings. He discusses new ownership partner Ted Gelov and major partners like Java House and Splenda, recent changes aimed at winning, and why qualifying is the most stressful part of May. Carpenter also reflects on IndyCar's momentum with FOX, Doug Boles' leadership, and his best memories and favorite hidden gem of Indiana. He Was 30 Laps Away From Winning the Indy 500 | Conor Daly, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing

On today's show I welcomed IndyCar driver Conor Daly to the studio to discuss the month of May, preparing for the Indy 500, his most recent Indy 500 finish, his current racing situation, and the business realities of IndyCar. Daly explains that despite having one of his best seasons that included beating his teammate and setting team points and finish records, he did not secure a full-time ride due to finances and late offseason changes. He also notes IndyCar's ratings growth driven largely by FOX's marketing and improved scheduling. Daly, who will start 8th in the 110th Running of the Indy 500, breaks down Indy 500 preparation, sponsor appearances and partnerships with ARCO/AMPM and Kingspan, plus how pit stops, strategy, clean air, and small mistakes decide the race, referencing last year's wheel-weight issue that derailed his run after leading for 13 laps. Daly also discusses the charter system expanding to 27 full-time cars next year, a new car coming in 2028, his Pardon My Take appearance, and why Indiana is home, sharing his favorite Indy 500 traditions and local restaurant recommendations. He Had to Win or His Racing Career Was Over | Pato O'Ward, Arrow McLaren

On today's show I jumped into the fast lane with IndyCar driver Pato O'Ward of Arrow McLaren, who explains dropping out of school to pursue racing, opens up on falling just short of his dream of winning the Indy 500, and why he now calls Indiana home. O'Ward grew up in Monterrey, moved to San Antonio at age 11 due to security concerns, attended a military-institute school, and traveled early for karting, with his dad attending every race. He describes running his brand and merch as a family operation, dropping out at 15 to chase a racing career with no plan B, and learning from setbacks. After winning the 2018 Indy Lights title, he faced lost rides, a failed Indy 500 qualification, a Red Bull/F1 path derailed by super license issues, and a stint in Japan before joining Arrow McLaren. O'Ward reflects on the emotional highs and heartbreak of nearly winning the Indy 500 in 2022, emphasizing timing, competition, and Indiana's May traditions. How a Burger Chain Survived 60 Years in the Restaurant Business | Perry and Blake Fogelsong, Clancy's Hospitality

On today's show I sat down with Perry and Blake Fogelsong of Clancy's Hospitality, a multi-generation, family-owned restaurant group operating seven restaurants across Indiana and Ohio. The company's start came in 1965 with Indiana Restaurant Hall of Fame member Carl Fogelsong's Clancy's Hamburgers double drive-thru burger concept that expanded to over 30 locations across four states, then declined as national chains entered their small-town markets and the late-'70s oil crisis hit. After Perry graduated college in 1981, he proposed shifting into "casual theme restaurants," creating Grindstone Charley's, which grew to 13 locations before facing similar competitive pressure. Our conversation covers how they rebranded toward chef-driven, experience-forward concepts like Grindstone Public House, Grindstone on the Monon, Clancy's at The Garage, and the People Magazine/OpenTable–recognized Fountain Room, plus their upcoming Noblesville hi-fi cocktail lounge, The Pretender, opening in July, and the realities of thin restaurant margins, real estate, and staffing. He Started with $400… And Became an NBA Brand | Christian Resiak, Howl + Hide

On today's show I sat down with Christian Resiak, founder of Indianapolis leather goods brand Howl + Hide, launched in 2014 after he taught himself leatherwork. Resiak grew up near Michigan City's Lake Michigan shoreline, moved to Noblesville, and left Purdue after six months to pursue retail management roles in Peoria, Illinois and Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he learned branding, merchandising, and store operations. After returning to Indianapolis in 2012, he worked briefly at Verizon and Angie's List before discovering leatherwork in 2014, starting with hand-sewn wallets and bags, and transitioning from Etsy to his own site in 2015. He left Angie's List, bartended to pay bills, joined a Mass Ave makerspace incubator, opened early retail/workshop spaces, and used trade shows to land wholesale and corporate opportunities, including John Wayne wallets. The business expanded into retail, corporate "collab" products, and an in-house factory, working with brands like Jet Access, Wilson, and NBA teams including the Pistons and Pacers, while emphasizing culture, EOS processes, and scaling without losing the brand's soul. The Bold Plan to Make Indiana America's Next Boom State | Chris Jensen, Scott Fadness & Andrew Greenwood, Central Indiana Regional Development Authority

On today's show I sat down with Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen, Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness, and Bargersville Town Council President Andrew Greenwood about how their fast-growing central Indiana communities gained national attention and why they formed the Central Indiana Regional Development Authority (CIRDA) to collaborate across 32 municipalities representing about 40% of Indiana's GDP. They discuss balancing competition and cooperation on issues like economic identity, arts and culture, public safety and gun crime coordination, infrastructure, and fiscal pressures including property tax reforms and rising costs. Another major focus is data centers, with CIRDA convening utilities, developers, and local officials to establish facts, guardrails, and a regional plan.
