Someone once observed that if Howard Stern and Krista Tippett had a love child, it would be Scott Jones. Scott liked that.
At "Give and Take,” Scott Jones talks with artists, authors, theologians, and political pundits about the lens through which they experience life. With empathy, humor, and a deep knowledge of religion, current events, and pop culture, Scott engages his guests in a free-flowing conversation that's entertaining, unexpected, occasionally bizarre, and oftentimes enlightening. He likes people, and it shows.
Past interviewees include Mark Oppenheimer, Melissa Febos, David French, Miroslav Volf, Dan Savage, Nadia Bolz-Weber, Rob Bell, and (yes) Krista Tippett.
Scott is the former host and producer of the popular Mockingcast podcast (https://themockingcast.fireside.fm) and an in-demand consultant on all things “pod.” He’s also the co-host, with Bill Borror, of New Persuasive Words (https://npw.fireside.fm). Scott is also a prolific writer, a frequent conference speaker, a PhD candidate in Theology, and an ordained minister.
A New Jersey native, Scott lives with his best friend and wife, Lindy, in the suburbs of Philadelphia with two rescue pit bulls that he swears are sensitive souls.

Your Seceret Weapon

I must say this podcast is quickly becoming a cornerstone of my weekly arsenal of resources as I study and prepare myself to deliver God’s inexhaustible grace to an exhausted people. The Give and Take podcast helps me to become a more effective evangelist of God’s grace.

Miss the Mockingcast, but Jones is a thoughtful, empathetic interviewer

First off: This is a review of "Give & Take," not its predecessor, "The Mockingcast." (What happened to that, by the way?) I'm a theologically conservative evangelical pastor who ministers in a mainline denomination. On more than a few occasions, I've rolled my eyes when I've read about the guest that Jones is interviewing. "Here we go again," I think. "Another progressive Christian here to explain what's wrong with us mouth-breathing evangelicals!" (Sorry, I know I'm overly sensitive.) Yet, Jones seems utterly uninterested in culture war issues, whether he's interviewing an atheistic sex columnist or a professor at Liberty University. Culture war issues are abstract: Jones wants to know flesh and blood people. My point is, I usually end up liking these interviews more than I think I will. He never fails to humanize interview subjects (and their objects). That's a gift.
