Declutter Your Mind: Mindset, Mental Clutter & Finding Peace

We spend so much time decluttering our closets and countertops — but what about the clutter in our minds? This episode is your reset.   Janet Taylor, your Life Organizer, sits down with Anna Malinsky, mindset coach and wellness expert whose journey began in 2013 with her first coaching certification. Sincethen Anna has immersed herself in positive psychology, thought transformation, and the power of perspective. Her core belief is simple and powerful: you have the power to choose your reactions, your outlook, and ultimately your peace.   In this conversation you will learn:   Why mindset is the foundation of lasting change — and how the stories we tell ourselves create the mental clutter that holds us back.   Why mess equals stress — and how visual disorganization triggers anxiety and makes your brain work harder just to function.   That clutter is not just physical — social media, news consumption, and toxic relationships are all forms of mental clutter we take in every single day.   Three practical ways to start decluttering your mind today — take an inventory of what does not belong, do a five-minute mental dump, and turn off digital distractions.   Why multitasking is mental clutter disguised as productivity — and the numbers and ABCs example that makes this undeniably clear.   How to practice indfulness to release the past and the future and come back to the only moment that actually exists.   How saying no without guilt protects your clarity and prevents mental clutter from building up again.   Taylor's Tip Time: Five steps to clear mental clutter — write everything down using a notebook, app, or phone, schedule a daily or weekly brain dump, assign a time to each task on your list, schedule it on your calendar, and give yourself a high five when it is done.   TossItTuesday: Shred or toss the faded receipts in your wallet, glove compartment, and junk drawer. You cannot read them and they are not serving you.   Resource Roundup: A three-tier desk organizer to keep current tasks visible and accessible — top tier for this week, second tier for ongoing items, third tier for monthly tasks. Book suggestion: Janet's ebook Seven Affirmations to Organize Your Life — a go-to guide for clarity and motivation one page at a time.   Quote of the week: "We can't always choose what happens to us, but we can choose how we respond. That's where the power is." — Anna Malinsky   Clear the Clutter. Claim Your Power. It starts with clearing your mind. Organized & Energized: The Life-Changing Benefits of Clutter-Free Living

Could your space be quietly draining your energy without you even realizing it? This episode will help you see your home — and your habits —in a completely new way.   Janet Taylor, your Life Organizer, sits down with Mackenzie Scott, Certified Professional Organizer, operations manager, and lead organizer at Mission 2 Organize — one of the most recognized organizing companies in the country with an award-winning YouTube channel and over 10 years of consistent content. Mackenzie, affectionately known as Mac Attack, brings structure, joy, and serious expertise to every conversation.   In this episode you will learn:  The real mental and physical benefits of an organized space — and why some people do not even realize clutter is causing their anxiety until it is gone.   Why you do not have to be a minimalist to live an organized life — and how color coding your knickknacks can create visual peace without getting rid of everything you love.   How to identify the one problem to solve first so you get an immediate win and the motivation to keep going.   The post-it pile strategy — why collecting everything in one place is always the first step before organizing anything.   The power of a 10-minute tidy at the end of every day — and why it only works if you have the right amount of stuff for your lifestyle.   How Mackenzie and her husband hold a weekly planning meeting every Sunday — and why she says every person needs to have a weekly meeting with themselves first.   Why organizing is never a one-time event — and how to build maintenance into your life so the results actually last.   Taylor's Tip Time: Five small decluttering wins to reclaim mental energy today — clean out one junk drawer, clear off the kitchen counter, spend 15 minutes shredding, declutter the top of your dresser or nightstand, and put some shoes away. Small spaces, big mental shifts.   TossItTuesday: Dispose of those expired batteries responsibly. They are taking up space and they do not work anymore. Let them go.   Resource Roundup: Clear shoeboxes — one of the most versatile organizing tools in Janet's arsenal. Use them for batteries, candles, command hooks, tape, and more. Book suggestion: Janet's ebook Prepared and Organized — seven areas to tackle during challenging times.   Quote of the week: "Organizing isn't about perfection. It's about creating a space to support your life, your goals, and your peace of mind." — Mackenzie Scott, CPO   Clear the Clutter. Claim Your Power. Behind the Scenes: Organizing Secrets That Keep Me Focused and Totally Organized

What does it actually look like to live an organized life every single day? In this solo episode, Janet M. Taylor takes you behind the scenes and shares the real habits, routines, and systems she uses to stay focused, reduce stress, and maintain order in her home and her life. Janet walks through her full daily rhythm, starting with a 15-minute night before routine that sets the tone for the next day. She shares her sacred morning practice, how she structures her workday to stay productive without burning out, and how she winds down each evening with intention. She also covers her approach to mail and paperwork, her weekly planning session, the power of meal prep, and her seasonal closet purge method. Throughout the episode, Janet reminds listeners that organization is not a one-time event. It is a daily practice, and like training for a marathon, the real reward comes from building the muscle over time. Janet also shares a story from her client work about a focused session she calls a Cross It Off Your List Day, where one client finally tackled months of lingering tasks in a single afternoon, and felt an immediate sense of relief when it was done. This episode also includes Organizing with Janet, Taylor's Tip Time, and a Toss It Tuesday reminder focused on releasing unworn items from your closet. Organizing with ADHD: How Kenna Lee Found Clarity Over Chaos

Does organizing feel impossible when your brain is already overwhelmed? Whether you have been diagnosed with ADHD or just feel scattered during seasonal transitions, this episode has practical strategies that will actually work for the way your brain is wired.   Janet Taylor, your Life Organizer, sits down with Kenna Lee, certified professional organizer, ADHD specialist, and founder of Calm Spaces. Kenna holds certifications in Brain-Based Conditions, Chronic Disorganization, ADHD, and Life Transitions through NAPO and the Institute of Challenging Disorganization — and she brings both professional expertise and deep empathy to every conversation.   In this conversation you will learn:   -Why fall is one of the hardest seasons for people with ADHD — and why the overwhelm is not just in your head.  -How routines reduce decision fatigue and free up the mental and physical energy you need to get through the day.  -The runway analogy that will change how you think about every horizontal surface in your home.  -Why clear containers are one of the simplest and most effective tools for an ADHD brain — and how they reduce overbuying at the same time.  -How to use your phone calendar like a personal accountability coach to stay on track without adding new systems.  -The one quick win you can do in 10 minutes today to feel immediate relief and motivation.  -How Kenna controls impulse buying with one simple Amazon rule — and how asking for experiences instead of gifts keeps clutter from creeping back in.   Organizing with Janet: A client who traveled frequently came home to bags and piles of mail her brother had collected while she was away. Janet sorted everything into categories — bills, travel, medical, junk —alphabetized the bills, and cleared the chaos completely. One system, onesession, back on track.   Taylor's Tip Time: Five tools for an ADHD-friendly home — a shoe rack by the door, a hook for keys and IDs, a basket for incoming mail and outgoing items, a whiteboard for 90-day goals and reminders, and a lazy Susan to keep things visible and accessible without creating clutter.   TossItTuesday: Janet tossed the button box — inherited from her mother, full of buttons for clothes long gone. Is it time to touch your DIY or sewing stash?   Resource Roundup: Lazy Susans for bathrooms, countertops, and cabinets. Book suggestion: Janet's ebook Prepared and Organized — seven areas to tackle during challenging times.   Quote of the week: "For a mind with ADHD, an organized space isn't just tidy. Bend Time, Reclaim Joy: From Burnout to Fulfillment with Michelle Niemeyer

What if you could bend time — not to do more, but to feel more fulfilled?   Janet Taylor, your Life Organizer, sits down with Michelle Niemeyer, certified health coach, former litigation attorney, and creator of the Art of Bending Time system. After 20-plus years in law, a divorce, an autoimmune diagnosis, and a deep sense of exhaustion, Michelle made a bold pivot — and the results were life-changing. She lost the weight, regained her joy and focus in practicing law, and discovered the powerful system she now teaches others.   In this conversation you will learn:  -What the Art of Bending Time actually is — and why adding more hours to your day is not the solution.  -The sparks that light you up — why identifying your small daily joys is the fuel that powers everything else. -The Time Suck Ninja — how to identify and cut the internal and external time wasters that are quietly stealing hours from your day.  -Why multitasking does not exist — and the neuroscience behind why bouncing between tasks depletes your focus and doubles your work time.  -How turning off notifications could save you up to two hours a day.  -The sword analysis tool Michelle uses with clients, families, and teams to create shared goals and genuine buy-in.  -Why some goals we have been chasing are not even our own — and how letting them go is one of the most powerful forms of decluttering.   Organizing with Janet: A client's bedroom had slowly turned into an office — complete with a printer under the bed. After a major purge and reorganizing the space, she saw her bedroom as a restful and calming sanctuary again. Sometimes the best organizing win is not about tidying. It is about transforming how you feel about your space.   Taylor's Tip Time: If your space feels chaotic, your energy will too. Start by clearing one zone — your desk or bedside table — and ask yourself: does this support the version of me I want to become? Small spaces lead to big mental shifts.   TossItTuesday: Janet let go of a lunch bag she no longer uses. What are you holding onto that does not serve the life you lead now?   Resource Roundup: Baskets for beautiful, functional containment throughout your home. Book suggestion: Janet's ebook, Seven Affirmations to Organize Your Life.   Quote of the week: "Time isn't something we manage. From the Big House to the Cozy Corner with Coni J. Mackey

What do you do when you realize you have been living for everyone else — and not for yourself?   Janet Taylor, your Life Organizer, sits down with Coni J. Mackey, founder of Silver Hair Wisdom and one of Janet's longtime friends and collaborators. Coni shares her deeply personal journey of going from 2,000 square feet to living in a space just over 600 square feet — and what she discovered along the way about identity, freedom, and what it truly means to let go.   This is not just a story about downsizing. It is a story about coming home to yourself.   In this conversation you will learn:   Why Coni kept a big house for decades — and the moment she realized nobody was coming to fill it.   How losing her eyesight in one eye became the turning point that changed everything and led her to finally ask for help.   What it felt like to drive cross-country from Las Vegas to Portland, Oregon at 67 years old — alone — with her life fitting in a car.   The labeling system that saved her sanity during multiple moves and how knowing what is in every box changed everything.   Why downsizing is one of the most emotionally difficult things a person can go through — and why you have to be ready before you begin.   The moment Coni moved into 614 square feet and realized she was finally free.   What it means to stop performing a life and start living one.   Organizing with Janet: Janet worked with a mother and daughter who both downsized to combine their homes so the daughter could become her mother's caregiver. After assessing both spaces, Janet helped them create a shared plan — what would fit, what needed to be released, and how to make the new space feel like home for both of them. When two lives come together in one space, intentionality is everything.   Taylor's Tip Time: Keys to downsizing — plan the space, use horizontal surfaces like shelving for extra storage, choose multifunctional furniture, use back of door and under-sink organizers to maximize every inch, and purge seasonally because downsizing is rarely a one-time event.   TossItTuesday: Time to donate those books stacked in corners and under tables. Consider your local Little Free Library, community book programs, or prison literacy initiatives — let your books be read again.   Quote of the week: "The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one." — Mark Twain   Clear the Clutter. Claim Your Power. Master Your Day: Proven Strategies to Own Your Schedule and Beat Overwhelm

Do you ever feel like your day is running you instead of the other way around? This solo episode is your reset.   Janet Taylor, your Life Organizer, shares the ten strategies she personally uses to master her day — and they work whether you are just starting your career, a seasoned professional, or retired. No matter where you are, a plan and the right tools can change everything.   In this episode Janet covers:   Strategy 1: Start the night before. Just 15 minutes of pre-planning can save you an hour or more the next day — and dramatically reduce your morning overwhelm.  Strategy 2: Pack your bag the night before. Know exactly what you need before your feet hit the floor. Strategy 3: Lay out your clothes and shoes the night before. Eliminate morning decisions before they drain your energy.  Strategy 4: Confirm your appointments. One phone call can save you an entire wasted trip across town.  Strategy 5: Check your schedule before you say yes. Look at the day before and the day after — not just the day of.  Strategy 6: Double the time you think tasks will take. Give yourself enough room to finish without the stress of running over.  Strategy 7: Meal prep. It saves time, supports your health, and saves money — even a simple meat and sides prep makes the whole week easier.  Strategy 8: Keep all appointments on one calendar — personal, professional, caregiving, all of it in one place.  Strategy 9: Color code your schedule. At a glance you will know exactly where your energy is going and what is missing.  Strategy 10: Make time for yourself. Janet's personal time is yellow on her calendar. What color is yours?   Organizing with Janet: A client was overwhelmed by a large organizing project and kept stalling because she was trying to do everything at once. Janet helped her create a project timeline with specific dates and dedicated time blocks for each area. With a timeline and a focus on one space at a time, frustration turned into forward movement.   Taylor's Tip Time: Plan the night before — lay out clothes, put shoes by the door, know where your keys are, have your gym bag ready, and review your schedule. Just 15 minutes reduces the manic morning rush completely.   TossItTuesday: Time to toss the old calendars and planners you have been holding onto for years. The pretty pictures are not worth the drawer space. Let them go.   Quote of the week: "You will never find time for anything. If you want time, you must make it." — Charles Buxton   Clear the Clutter. Claim Your Power. It starts with your calendar.     CONNECT WITH JANET M.
