Trump Built This Culture of Violence That Keeps Coming For Him

Hawk walks through Jonathan V. Last's newsletter from The Bulwark, titled "Political Violence Breaks Containment," which traces Trump's pattern from encouraging rally-goers to punch protesters in 2016, to excusing Charlottesville, to the January 6th Capitol insurrection, to pardoning convicted violent offenders and even placing one inside the DOJ. The same administration that published what JVL calls snuff films, threatened genocide against the Iranian people, and called political opponents vermin and enemies of the state is now incredulous that political violence has turned in its direction. The shooter, Cole Thomas Allen, a teacher and engineer who checked into the hotel a day before the event with a shotgun, a handgun, and multiple knives, found virtually no security in place. He sent a manifesto to family members roughly 10 minutes before the attack, outlining his targets, his rules of engagement, and his reasoning, rooted in rage at the current administration. Hawk also covers why trust in this White House's version of events has completely collapsed, on both sides of the political spectrum, because of years of disinformation, QAnon, Pizzagate, and compulsive lying. Even Trump's own base no longer believes the official narrative coming out of the administration. The Epstein files, the rhetoric, the pardons, the violence. It all connects. 19H AGO

    The Collapse of American Reality

The aftermath of the White House correspondents dinner shooting reveals a nation where facts no longer exist and truth is a casualty of years of systematic disinformation. While mainstream media outlets like CNN engage in whataboutism, the public response across the political spectrum suggests a deep rooted skepticism of official narratives. This distrust stems from a long history of misinformation regarding the 2020 election, COVID hoaxes, and the January 6 insurrection. The current administration, featuring figures like Marco Rubio, Stephen Miller, and Kash Patel, faces a credibility crisis that extends from domestic policy to international negotiations with Iran and Israel. When political violence occurs, the immediate reflex is to label it staged or a false flag because the basis for shared reality has been dismantled. By analyzing the principles found in On Tyranny by Timothy Snyder, specifically the necessity of believing in truth to maintain freedom, a clearer picture emerges of how spectacle has replaced substance in American governance. The 2024 election of a convicted felon and the subsequent second term of Donald Trump have pushed both the right and the left into conspiratorial thinking. This environment makes it impossible to criticize power effectively or find accurate information amidst a relentless campaign of lies on Truth Social and right wing media. 3. Will Trump Pardon Ghislaine Maxwell? This is What Republicans Think.

    1D AGO

Will Trump Pardon Ghislaine Maxwell? This is What Republicans Think.

Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year federal prison sentence after being convicted in December 2021 on five charges including sex trafficking of a minor. Jeffrey Epstein visited the Clinton White House 17 times, and Trump's name appears over one million times across the three million pages of Epstein files released by the DOJ this year. Former Attorney General Pam Bondi sat feet away from Epstein survivors at a congressional hearing and refused to acknowledge them. Not one of those survivors has ever been contacted by the DOJ. Bondi was fired, and Trump replaced her with Todd Blanch — Trump's own former criminal defense attorney from the New York hush money trial where Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts. On Blanch's first day as acting attorney general, he announced the DOJ would release no further Epstein documents. Representative Robert Garcia called a Maxwell pardon a massive cover-up and a slap in the face to survivors. James Comer, who chairs the committee, said Maxwell is the worst person in this investigation outside of Epstein himself — yet members of his own party are still entertaining this deal. 1D AGO

Honoring a Convicted Felon - The Truth About the White House Correspondents' Dinner

While many on the left suspect the incident was staged, the broader issue lies in the willingness of the White House Correspondents Association to honor a man who labeled the media the enemy of the people for over a decade. The presence of Brendan Carr, chair of the FCC, highlights the ongoing threats of punitive actions against the press for unfavorable coverage. The discussion centers on the complicity of the media, particularly white men and white women, who continue to support or normalize these power dynamics. Don Lemon publicly refused to attend, highlighting the discomfort of pretending everything is normal while the physical safety of journalists is threatened. While 92% of black women voted for Kamala Harris, statistics show a different story for other demographics, leading to the argument that there are no white victims in a second Trump term, only volunteers. The desire to reschedule the event stems not from patriotism, but from a need to berate the press directly. Journalists seem prepared to grovel for access journalism, accepting misogyny and insults to remain close to power. This cycle of desensitization to gun violence and the surrender of the media to those who demean them reflects a troubling shift in democracy and government. Was the Shooting at the WHCD Another Assassination Attempt?

This event marked the first time Donald Trump attended the dinner as president, a notable shift after he skipped the event throughout his first term and last year. While the media socialized with members of the administration and cabinet, security at the Washington Hilton was reportedly insufficient. Journalist Joe DePaolo noted that entering the perimeter was dangerously easy, requiring only a digital photo of an invitation without a QR code. As attendees like JD Vance, Mike Johnson, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. were evacuated, those remaining in the ballroom sheltered under tables. The breach highlights significant concerns regarding the Secret Service protocols and the decision of the White House Correspondents Association to host the event despite ongoing tensions between the administration and the free press. High profile figures including Pete Hegseth, Mark Wayne Mullen, and Brendan Carr were present as the situation unfolded. Hawk reflects on the desensitization to such violence in America while highlighting the specific security lapses that allowed an armed individual to reach the lobby area. Trump Has No Way Out of His Iran War Debacle

Donald Trump scrapped negotiations with Iran involving Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff while also skipping the White House Correspondents Dinner in Washington DC. Meanwhile, a massive party sponsored by Grindr during the dinner weekend sparked a firestorm among MAGA supporters and influencers like Laura Loomer. The administration is moving to indict the Southern Poverty Law Center, a move Larry Kudlow supports despite the SPLC history of infiltrating groups like the Ku Klux Klan. This legal battle highlights the tension between right wing organizations and groups tracking hate speech. Donald Trump also targeted Candace Owens with racist imagery, prompting a sharp rebuke from Marjorie Taylor Greene who claims Trump hates women he cannot control. Greene joined voices like Tucker Carlson in distancing themselves from the former president, though their own controversial histories remain a factor. Finally, Pennsylvania Senator John Fetterman faces a collapse in support from his own voting base. His alignment with Benjamin Netanyahu and acceptance of a gold plated pager replica after the Lebanon operations signals a major rift with Democratic voters. Kash Patel's Embarrassing Lawsuit Against The Atlantic

The Atlantic published an article citing more than two dozen anonymous sources alleging that Kash Patel, the current FBI director, is frequently drunk at work, misses meetings, and has engaged in conduct that raises serious national security concerns. Within days, Patel filed a $250 million defamation lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Hawk walks through the legal standards that apply to public figures in defamation cases, including the actual malice standard established in New York Times v. Sullivan, and explains why Patel faces an extraordinarily high burden of proof. The lawsuit is represented by attorney Jesse Benall, who previously represented Donald Trump in efforts to overturn the 2020 election, the Mar-a-Lago classified documents case, and multiple January 6th related civil suits. The complaint itself is examined in detail, from its self-serving denials lacking evidentiary support, to its repetitive structure, to its irrelevant sections touting FBI statistics. Hawk also covers the court's same-day dismissal of Patel's earlier defamation suit against former FBI official Frank Figliuzzi, and what the discovery process could mean for Patel if this lawsuit proceeds. Iran Is Winning This War and Trump Can't Admit It

The United States is burning through $3 million guided missiles to shoot down $50,000 drones, munitions are running low, and Iran still controls the Strait of Hormuz. The closing of that waterway is pushing the global economy toward recession, and the time pressure in this conflict rests entirely on Trump, not on Iran. Virginia passed a redistricting plan Tuesday that could hand Democrats three to five additional House seats, sending CNN's Scott Jennings into a predictable spiral of outrage — despite Republicans doing the same thing in Texas without a public vote. The segment closes with footage from a Jordan Klepper interview at a Turning Point USA rally in Phoenix, where Trump supporters demonstrate exactly why Hawk says he can no longer find any humor in covering this base.
