Episode 115: “Follow The Yellow Brick Road” ft. Will G.
Today, on Episode 115 of Hell Has an Exit Bryan invites a very special Guest by the name of Will G.
Will G's story is an inspiring tale of redemption from a life of addiction. With 33 years of sobriety under his belt, he now leads the way as a pioneer in the 12-step program community. Born into a family entrenched in drug dealing, yet deeply spiritual, Will's childhood was spent navigating the duality of his upbringing. Despite his early religious convictions, he eventually found himself on the streets as an addict.
As a teenager, Will became a father and joined the Marine Corps, only to return home with PTSD. This condition drove him to self-medicate with drugs, leading to an addiction that spiraled out of control. Losing the trust and respect of his loved ones, Will ended up homeless in Harlem before moving to Florida with a girlfriend.
In Florida, his addiction continued unabated until he was introduced to Narcotics Anonymous. At last, Will found a place where he could turn his life around. Over the past 33 years, he has become a mentor and guiding light for others seeking sobriety, including host Bryan Alzate.
Now, at the age of 70, Will G is pursuing his PhD, having returned to high school and college to reclaim his education. Tune into this week's episode of "Hell Has an Exit" to hear Will's remarkable story of hope, perseverance, and transformation, and learn from his wisdom as someone with over three decades of sobriety. Episode 111: Jake "The Snake" Roberts
"Jake the Snake" Roberts was a wrestling legend, famous for his trademark bag of snakes and intimidating on-screen persona. But behind the glitz and glamour of his in-ring performances lay a dark and troubled reality.
Jake's addiction was a result of a traumatic childhood. His father was not only physically abusive, but he also sexually abused Jake's sister and had a history of pedophilia that included Jake's mother, who was only 13 years old when she gave birth to him. In a desperate attempt to numb his pain, Jake turned to drugs and alcohol, leading him down a path of self-destruction.
Despite being a star of the 1980s wrestling scene, Jake's addiction was spiraling out of control. He would show up to matches drunk or high and even disappear for days at a time. It wasn't until he hit rock bottom that he realized he needed to make a change.
Jake eventually committed to getting clean, with rehab and turning to a higher power for support. He also found solace in DDP Yoga, which helped him heal his mind, body, and spirit. After over a decade of sobriety, Jake is now an advocate for addiction recovery and mental health awareness, sharing his story to inspire and help others facing similar challenges.
Jake's journey is a testament to the power of resilience and hope in overcoming adversity. Despite facing unimaginable trauma and struggling with addiction and mental health issues, he was able to turn his life around and find a sense of purpose. Jake's story is a reminder of the importance of support and understanding for those battling addiction and mental health issues, and the power of the human spirit to overcome even the darkest of circumstances.

My Comfort Show in Recovery
My friend in recovery told me she had a friend with a podcast, and I NEVER imagined I would love this as much as I do and listen almost every day on my daily meditative walk. Bryan’s voice reminds me that he’ll does have an exit and I am so grateful I got out. If I could give this a 10 star rating I would. Thank you sharing this with all of us.
🤯
This pod cast has helped me stay centered when I felt like I couldn’t pick up the phone. Hearing the stories of like minded people and their journeys is so inspiring. Hope to hear Karl on here soon!
Showing me how to live
I found this podcast in October and was immediately drawn into the rawness of the conversation. The convention tapes are something I listen to at work, home and in the car. Thank you Bryan for helping this addict stay clean! -Chad M
