    Shiny, Happy People documentary

About Tara: Tara Oathout may not know the Duggars, but she was still asked to participate along side her husband, Floyd, in the Amazon Prime documentary Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets. The documentary does touch on the famous family of "19 Kids & Counting but primarily uses them as an introduction to the religious, cult-like organization called Institute in Basic Life Principles. The legalistic and toxic ideology put forth by IBLP is deeply imbeded in both Tara's upbringing. In an effort to underscore the harm this belief system is capable of, Tara, and her husband, along with many other survivors, share their stories. Tara is still in her deconstruction era and while she doesn't promise to have the answers, she is deeply motivated to share her journey in an effort to help others shed the shame of Christian fundamentalism. Giving up the "certainty" that a religious life offers is a hard addiction to beat and the journey can be incredibly isolating, but Tara's goal is to find peace, not in the answers, but in herself. She works daily to rebuild a relationship with herself through inner child work, somatic movement, healthy boundaries, therapy and more. The sacrifice for this cause has been monumental, but every time someone finds camaraderie or comfort in her story, Tara knows it was worth it.

Episode 107: WEBS OF TRUTH — Responsibility in Coaching from the Perspective of Coach & Client with Kat Lee

Episode 107: WEBS OF TRUTH — Responsibility in Coaching from the Perspective of Coach & Client with Kat Lee

Webs of Truth is a monthly sub-podcast of The Rooted Business Podcast with Spiritual Business Mentor Kat Lee and the Holistic Trauma Healing Podcast with Holistic Trauma Educator Lindsey Lockett.

In this conversation, Kat and Lindsey explore the concept of responsibility from both the perspective of coach and client by examining the emotional wounds our clients have carried from past coaching experiences. This is a nuanced discussion that asks us to intentionally dissect how we hold space, invite questions and uphold boundaries to create transparency and safety for our clients.

As trauma-informed coaches ourselves, we firmly believe in empowering clients to see the coach’s role as a guide, not an authority figure. You’ll hear us drawing upon examples from our own experiences as practitioners to share how we embody this energy of guide. We hope to inspire you to think about how you too can create a similar culture of trust that your clients can sink into.

Episode 104: A Peek Into My Annual Appointment with My Psychiatrist

Episode 104: A Peek Into My Annual Appointment with My Psychiatrist

In this episode, Lindsey delves into her personal experiences with psychiatry, tracing her struggles with anxiety, insomnia, and a suicide attempt in 2019. Misguided medical advice led her to self-advocate and push against standard practices, especially concerning tapering off medications. A turning point came when she met a supportive psychiatrist in the summer of 2019, forging a unique bond based on mutual respect and understanding. This episode features a telehealth session between them, exploring Lindsey's emotional traumas, especially relating to her mother and past experiences, and their impact on her present life. Throughout their conversation, the importance of understanding, self-awareness, and setting boundaries emerges as crucial for mental well-being. Lindsey's psychiatrist validates and appreciates her current work as a nervous system coach and trauma educator, noting that her awareness, curiosity, and ability to feel her feelings and meet herself where she is holds the key to most people's healing. The session ends with gratitude for the supportive therapeutic relationship they share, and Lindsey invites listeners to check out her signature group coaching program FEEL WITHOUT FEAR.

This is literally everything!

She is very inspired and everything she talks about rings so true and makes so much sense!! There is so much “health” info out there that it gets overwhelming and it’s impossible to know where to start or what to do or not do and she pretty much blows it out of the water with what to do! How to heal! And it’s not complicated. We shouldn’t have to know exactly what’s wrong with us, what is the exact right thing to do with every symptom with all that I go out there. It’s too much and we don’t need to understand it all. Fix your brain and the rest gets well!

If dealing with legitimate SA trauma, don’t listen. It’ll trigger you.

I’m a victim of SA. Actual real SA. The “r” word. The episode I listen to attempted to equalize religion telling this crazy lady to not have sex before marriage as the same as someone who is a victim of SA. Literally made me vomit that she could create such a victim world for herself and compare it to us who have actually gone through SA. They are completely different things and shouldn’t ever be grouped as one. Ever. EVER. Disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. I’ve been through the same fundamental “Christian” upbringing. There is NOOO comparison to this and actual SA. I wish this podcast could be taken off of hear and I’m so sorry to victims who had to hear her justify a piece of gum and paper to what you have gone through. This is the worst podcast I’ve ever heard.

Sexist and hypocritical

I followed Lindsay for years. I paid for a few courses, listened to every podcast, and had her on all of my social media accounts.

I gave it years to sink in, but never felt like I paid for enough courses to reach the regulated state she claims to live with her “box of tools” that seam to just keep expanding onto the next purchasable class package… Start by adding her Instagram before you invest any money. See for yourself how regulated she is. Check into her nervous system response to anyone who questions her. Hate to say it, but her reaction is still very much so that of a Christian woman that can’t hear anything but HER truth.
Please don’t dismiss looking into “Toxic wellness culture” took me years and a lot of money to realize what I was actually doing with my money and time.
