New for July 2022, Homelessness Matters is a charity podcast by Emmaus which highlights the many reasons someone may become homeless and raises awareness about what being homeless truly means. In each episode you’ll hear from someone with experience of being homeless who has received support from one of 30 Emmaus communities in the UK, which provide a home, meaningful work, support and training for as long as needed. The podcast explores a variety of topics including mental health, addiction, debt, domestic violence and much more. A new episode will be released monthly.     In episode 3 of Homelessness Matters, you’ll hear from Anthony at Emmaus Glasgow. Before joining Emmaus in 2013, Anthony was struggling with rent payments, moving constantly and was unable to lead a stable life. Through Emmaus, Anthony has received the support and stability he needs to get back on his feet and is now a regular volunteer at the community’s soup kitchen, which supports people experiencing homelessness. Then you’ll hear from Angela Quinn, a Support Worker at Emmaus Glasgow, who describes the difference she has seen in Anthony since he joined Emmaus.

Before joining Emmaus, Phil experienced homelessness after losing his job, family and home due to alcohol addiction. Through Emmaus, Phil received the help he needs with his addiction to get back on his feet. Then you’ll hear from Johnny Szyndler, the Support Manager at the Emmaus community. Since recording the episode, Phil has gained employment and moved into a new home. [Trigger Warning: Addiction].
