Ep 71. Stress-Reduction Techniques and Perfectionism

Ep 71. Stress-Reduction Techniques and Perfectionism

Women’s stress management and mindset coach, Lindsay Dorka, joins Callie this week to share her expertise on how stress affects the body, ways to deal with perfectionism, and how stress is related to interstitial cystitis. With a background in healthcare as as an occupational therapist, she found that the root of many of the issues patients were coming in with could be traced back to one thing: stress.

While stress is normal to a certain extent and helps us survive, chronic stress is not and can manifest through physiological symptoms like pain, issues with digestion, and trouble sleeping. The internal tension of suppressing emotions is more powerful than we may think and can create real problems. But luckily, there is also a solution. Lindsay and Callie discuss the ways we can retrain our brain during states of stress to reduce the physical symptoms and live a better life.

Ep 70. How to find evidence-based information to make informed decisions for your interstitial cystitis care

Ep 70. How to find evidence-based information to make informed decisions for your interstitial cystitis care

This week, Callie talks to Laura Santurri, a board chair of the Interstitial Cystitis Association. Laura is an IC warrior of 25 years with a background in public health, and is passionate about patient education on managing chronic diseases, like interstitial cystitis. Laura discusses the importance of making decisions about our health care including taking into account your preferences and needs, the expertise of your interdisciplinary healthcare team, and the best evidenced-based data or research. Laura emphasizes that a provider and patient relationship should be open to communication, trustful, and makes you feel like your needs are heard, which has been shown to tremendously help with positive health outcomes! Callie and Laura also explain the difference between evidenced-based and non-evidence-based information on the internet, social media, support groups, and literature and how we can decipher what information is credible.

Ep 68. The importance of an individualized approach in treating IC with Dr. Robert Moldwin

Ep 68. The importance of an individualized approach in treating IC with Dr. Robert Moldwin

This week, Callie sits down with Dr. Robert Moldwin, a urologist who has worked in the field for over 30 years and specializes in interstitial cystitis and pelvic pain. Dr. Moldwin has witnessed an increase in awareness of interstitial cystitis over that time as more and more people have become aware of it and discusses what can be done to treat it.

Dr. Moldwin believes that every person is so different and there isn’t just one solution for people who are experiencing pelvic pain. His treatment approach is to find the underlying cause of the issue and treat that first instead of assuming all pelvic pain is interstitial cystitis. He shares what people struggling with interstitial cystitis and other forms of pelvic pain can do to find solutions with their clinicians to truly make a difference in their lives.

Ep 67. TMJ, Menopause, and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction

Ep 67. TMJ, Menopause, and Pelvic Floor Dysfunction

On this week’s episode, Callie talks to pelvic floor therapist Dr. Zarina Vitebsky. Zarina shares her knowledge and expertise on everything from TMJ, to what to expect when you see a pelvic floor therapist, to how you can handle the changes that come from menopause.

Zarina’s educational background and studies have helped her develop pelvic floor therapy practices that get to the root of the issues by evaluating the entire body, instead of just one area. She has successfully helped patients find long-term relief by doing comprehensive evaluations that consider a wide range of factors to understand where the problem is actually originating from. Because as she shares on this episode, most of the time the one area causing pain is not the real cause.
