Arielle Nissenblatt: Resident Podcast Enthusiast
We last had Arielle Nissenblatt on episode 307 a few years ago and loved the enthusiasm and energy she brings to the space. So much has changed in two years including many things that pertain to marketing like social media and video usage - so you have an idea where this conversation is headed. This is some all encompassing involvement: Her Ear Buds Collective Newsletter, The Trailer Park Podcast which discusses the good and bad of Podcast Trailers, The Podcast Community Discord Channel, She is the Community Marketing Manager at Descript, and she is also on the Board of Governors of the Podcast Academy.
In this episode, you will hear Arielle tell me how she reacted when she found out that Descript would be purchasing Squadcast, why she is not excited about Threads, what makes a great podcast trailer and why she started a podcast about it, and why the Podcast Academy is important for all podcast creators.

Craig Bruce: It's Different Down Under
Craig Bruce’s radio days started in 1986 hosting shows in Australia. He now consults for radio stations and launched a podcast called Game Changers Radio in 2016, featuring interviews with radio personalities from around the world. While the show podfaded in 2020, it is the new series called Melbourne Radio Wars, which documents Kyle and Jackie O’s entry into the Melbourne radio market.
On this episode, you will hear about the differences between Australian and North American radio. The key to Kyle and Jackie O's success is their chemistry from 20 years working together, Kyle's humor, Jackie's ideas, and excellent resourcing/marketing by the station, and how Craig works with younger producers to bring fresh ideas.

Dave Jackson: Back To School
So this is episode 400. I'm never really sure if as podcasters we are supposed to celebrate these milestones publicly; I have never heard a listener tell anyone that "you need to listen to Episode 100 of" any podcast ever. But I have heard them say, "Did you check out the episode with [insert relevant person here]"?
Tell your friends that Dave Jackson is on the show this week as we head Back to School. Dave is the owner of the School of Podcasting and has countless resources to help you get started with your show. This includes no fewer that 4 podcasts including:
Ask the Podcast Coach, Podcast Rodeo Show, Your Podcast Consultant, Your Podcast Website, and The Future of Podcasting.
In this episode I learned about why you need a "podcasting why" before you start your show, the difference between a YouTube show and a podcast, why you (still) need a website for your podcast and what needs to be on that website. (Spoiler: He recommends Podpage which we use for our network page).
Dave and I also dug into the super trendy question du jour: Do you need to have video for your podcast. It turns out you don't need to stress yourself out over video as much as people let on. Finally, we dabbled in the future of podcasting discussing Podcasting 2.0 which will enable podcasters to do more things, and enhance the experience for the audience.
We do video so yes - you can watch the show here.

Ken Connors: On His Terms
One of the first questions I ask people when they make a decision to leave their radio job under the guise of retirements is: "Were you pushed or did you jump?" Unlike the Terry Dimonte "retirement" where he was clearly pushed, Ken Connors is leaving his weekend morning job at CJAD 800am on his own terms.
In this episode, you will hear all about Ken's career which started at McGill Radio, continued throughout Ontario, to Ottawa and back to Montreal. Ken spent most of the 90's at CHOM and then he shifted to Standard Broadcasting's CJFM where he remained for 6 years before moving to 940 News, Q92 and then it was back to CJAD where he has been since 2016. A fairly remarkalbe career in North America's most unique radio market. Ken and I spent a little bit of time reminiscing about those days at CHOM, and some of things we learned about the broadcast business. Ken is well liked, a nice guy and was fun to work with on and off the air.

Learning about what I already do
Matt never fails to teach me something about my own industry, no matter who his guest happens to be.
One of my favorite podcasts
Matt Cundill brings an effortless interview style to the mic with each of his guests. I’ve interviewed him as well on my own podcast Spotlight Conversations, and find him equally interesting and knowledgeable about the broadcast business!
