You Can’t Out Will Power Your Baggage

You can’t out-willpower your baggage.   I’ve heard this from professionals for decades. “I’m just going to push through it.”   If that worked, psychology would have solved this 100 years ago. When the field first began, the question on the table was: can you think a certain way and get past your emotional baggage? The answer was no then. It hasn’t changed.   Your baggage lives in your unconscious mind. Willpower is a conscious-mind function. They operate in different places. One cannot override the other. No matter how much discipline you bring to it.   This shows up in leadership, in sales, in high-pressure roles. The professional who powers through burnout. The executive who compartmentalizes grief and wonders why their decision-making feels off six months later. The salesperson who white-knuckles through call reluctance instead of addressing what’s underneath it.   Here’s the reframe. The willpower you need is the willingness to find a technique that goes to the root. That’s where your effort belongs. Once you have the right tool, the process is about trusting your unconscious mind to release what conscious effort never could.   We’re running our master level event in California right now. 68 people. Two full weeks of deep work. In week two, we teach Mental and Emotional Release®, a technique I developed for exactly this purpose. It goes to the unconscious and helps people release the anger, sadness, fear, guilt, and shame that willpower alone can’t reach.   Follow for more on the psychology of performance, leadership, and emotional release.   Check out live trainings at trainings.nlp.com.   Join our free community, Empowerment Home: https://empowermentinc.mn.co/spaces/9453123?utm_source=manual         Empowerment, Inc. is the leading authority on NLP, Huna, Mental and Emotional Release®, and Hypnosis.   For more information, visit us at www.nlp.com or www.empowermentinc.com     Music: “Reach for Success” by Scott Holmes https://scottholmesmusic.com/

    Your Partner is Your Shadow

Your partner is your shadow. The closest mirror you’ll ever look into.   You let them sleep in the same bed with you. So whatever you see in them, the thing that irritates you, the thing you wish they’d change, that’s a reflection of something inside you waiting to be dealt with. That’s hard to swallow. It’s also where the real growth lives.   In this episode, I sit down with my daughter Skylar back home in Hawaii and talk about something that comes up with almost every relationship client I coach: how do you actually get better at your relationship?   You’ll learn: Why “grow together or grow apart” is more than an old saying How polarities attract so the two of you can find harmony (big picture meets detailed, introvert meets extrovert) What to do with the trait in your partner that drives you up the wall Why doing your own growth work can quietly create friction at home How to decide whether your partner should walk this path with you When you harmonize inside yourself, you stop traveling the road alone and start bringing the people you love along with you.   Check out live trainings at trainings.nlp.com. We’re in Phoenix, Fort Lauderdale, Atlantic City, San Diego and there’s still time to jump in.   Join our free community, Empowerment Home: https://empowermentinc.mn.co/spaces/9453123?utm_source=manual   Aloha, Dr. Matt         Empowerment, Inc. is the leading authority on NLP, Huna, Mental and Emotional Release®, and Hypnosis.   For more information, visit us at www.nlp.com or www.empowermentinc.com     Music: “Reach for Success” by Scott Holmes https://scottholmesmusic.com/

    Focus on You!

“Dad, when’s the last time you unplugged for four or five weeks?”   That was my son. Right before he left to run our training in Denver. And I told him. It’s been years.   Now I’ll openly admit. I coach. I teach. I run a business. I host webinars. Even when I say I’m “off,” I’m still working. If your work is taking care of other people, you probably know what I mean.   In this week’s check-in from Hawaii, I’m talking about something most high-functioning people refuse to face. People use “I’m too busy helping everyone else” as a way to avoid working on themselves. We just wrapped our NLP Practitioner Training in Houston, and this kept surfacing with the assistants and the team. What about me? What about me? Not in a selfish way. In a harmonious way.   Look, morning sets the tone. Water. Nature. A few quiet minutes that belong to you. These small foundational things are what let you show up well for everyone else. Most people skip them and wonder why nothing feels solid.   So I’m taking some real downtime here. And I’ll be coming to you every week from here.   What’s one small thing you could do today that helps you show up better for the people who need you?   Subscribe and I’ll see you next week.
