4 Well-intentioned white guys

I have been listening to this pod for the past year and am conflicted whether I should keep listening. There are things that I like and are done well on this podcast, and I’ll list them below to hopefully help listeners know whether this is a podcast they’d like to support. Pros: with their education and experience, hearing political commentary from them feels educational. I think they do a great job researching and providing context to things happening with our elected officials. The other thing I appreciate is how much they truly seem passionate about people getting informed and teaching everyone the importance of voting. For the reasons listed above, I would like to keep listening; however, it is almost comical and ironic how these 4 white men continue to excuse and praise other average white men. Basically if you want to hear continual praise and excuses for Biden, Beto, Buttigieg, and the Clintons, this is your pod. It’s disappointing because I had appreciated their commentary on most issues, but they do truly seem to be unaware of the favoritism they have for white democrats. I don’t think they even mean to, but the privilege and favoritism they show on their huge platform is ridiculous. It’s extra funny and sad because Jon did a whole series on the Democratic Party, The Wilderness, and you would think he would have seen the important role POC play and how left out they feel, but he doesn’t. Tommy is probably the host closest to understanding how this commentary affects POC and trying to give POC a voice, so maybe there is hope. The last thing that is unfortunate is that, with the exception of Tommy, the rest of them don’t seem to grasp how these issues affect POC communities and when POC use the platforms available to them, like Twitter, they almost mock them.

Anyways, a 1 star review might be too harsh, but I do feel like their ratings should reflect the damage they do by being blind and ignorant to POC perspectives.

Getting silly

Ok gang, the format of “this is what I would have said” is political cosplay and silly because none of you are at your old jobs, and fantasizing about your ideal outcome in the current era does nothing to accept, manage, and most importantly inform about the actual realities affecting everyone right now.

Also, during the Omar live interview, the silliness was increased exponentially. At the mention of Klobuchar, there was an obvious hesitation on whether or not it was ok to cheer for the mention of her name. That’s insane. Spending valuable and ever-losing chunks of time on that and wondering if she made “hot dish” in DC and whether she walks around in a jacket is...what’s a good description for this?...a ridiculous waste of her time, and the viewing audience. Not to mention listeners as well.

You get the missing star back the second you prioritize voter information and discussion of relevant-to-people-that-are-governed-by-your-guests ideas and policies over applause lines and merchandise.

Finally!

Andrew yang is on your show! I’ve been a listener since 2017 and have really enjoyed it. One of my main go-to channels for insightful commentary on politics.
