October 6, 2026: Sarah S. & Neal R. on Activism + Alex Patterson on Utility Rip Off Hearing

The Museum of New York Presents "Raise Your Voice", a new permanent exhibition which chronicles the four main ways that ordinary New Yorkers have organized to make change, over the last 250 years. Curator Sarah Seidman and Neal Rosenstein, President of the Puffin foundation join us to talk about the new exhibit. We take a look at the history of activist movements,  the thoughtfulness of curating this archive and how it aims to teach not just New York's history but the impact activism truly has, how successful movements are run, and fun tidbits about the patterns that seem to be fixtures of in movements across time. Puppets seem to feature prominently.  Joy, whimsy and music has always been what drives the human spirit through the hardest times.  The museum is free on Wednesdays open late till 9:00pm. There's a suggested donation on the rest of the days. Students can go free any day. Schools can request learning material and plan trips. Our guests are enthusiastic and passionate, tune in for an uplifting and inspiring show. In our second segment, we're joined by Alex Patterson. As utility bills keep increasing and New Yorkers struggle under the crushing weight of higher costs, Patterson joins us to talk about how New Yorkers landed in this crisis, why they're hosting a public hearing and what they hope to accomplish. New York's first ever Utility Rip off hearing is powered by NYC DSA's Ecosocialists and the Public Power New York Coalition which brings Con-Ed and National Grid customers together at the Hebert Von King park on Tuesday evening. In our final segment, we talk about the Cornell 7 Sexual Assault Case with our listeners.
