    451: Disc Golf; Indiana Is Indiana over taxing?, Daylight Saving Time Forever?

    Episode 451 of Boss Hog of Liberty is available now. Host voices are Jeremiah Morrell, Bones Harcourt, Betsy Mills, and Kaleb Buchanan. Sara Morrell fills in as guest producer as Zach Burcham is out of town. The big news is the new 18 hole disc golf course that is coming to Memorial Park. Four years in the making, set to open on August 8th. Some local nature organizations have raised environmental concerns, however the park board has voted unanimously to move forward with the project. Indiana has a 1.5 billion dollar budget surplus this summer on the heels of surprisingly high sales tax collections. Gas taxes have been suspended for the summer and our hosts feel like they are being squeezed by BMV registration fees and property taxes. Are these fees and taxes getting out of whack? Does the governors office have too much flexibility in playing games with when taxes are collected? Daylight Saving time might be changing. Permanent DST has passed the US House of Representatives. The US Senate passed it in 2022, but will they pass it again in 2026? President Trump says he would sign it, if it comes to his desk. In Sports, Spain won the World Cup, Alex Palou won Nashville, Alex Bowman is retiring from NASCAR in a year and a half, and the Indiana Fever are now at the top of the WNBA East Standings.     BHOL 450: Crider's Dine In; YMCA Update; World Cup Finals

    Episode 450 of Boss Hog of Liberty is available now. Host voices are Jeremiah Morrell, Bones Harcourt, Chase Peyton, and Zachary Burcham. Our guest this week is Bash Crider, local attorney, downtown business investor, now a restaurant owner. He announced this week that he is opening “Criders Dine In” on Broad Street, in the former Ky’s Bistro location in the Jennings Building. They will feature the locally legendary Crider’s Onion Rings, Fieldhouse Burgers, and the new “Bash Burger” which is a double decker smash burger, with a special sauce. It is scheduled to be open 7 days a week for lunch and dinner. Excitement is high. We don’t have an official opening date, but it sounds like it will be open by the end of July. All of the downtown restaurant community is supportive of the addition, and they have partnered with many of them on menu items. Bash Crider is also involved with “ReNew Castle” which is responsible for saving the old YMCA building that Crider has been working on for the last year or so, additionally the scope now includes the old “Sears Building” on Broad Street, and the Courthouse Annex building on 12th street.     BHOL 449: The Big Fire; Wheel Taxes; 50 States Draft

    Episode 449 of Boss Hog of Liberty is available now. Host voices are Jeremiah Morrell, Bones Harcourt, Forrest Plank and Zachary Burcham. Our guest this week is Kaleb Buchanan, public information officer for Knightstown Fire Department. THey were one of many departments that responded to the fire at the former Montgomery’s Steakhouse in Spiceland this week. A landmark site with memories for almost all of the hosts, multiple departments turned out to attempt to save the building. As of recording, the cause and fate of the building are unknown. It has most recently been used as an event venue.Indianapolis is on the verge of adding a wheel tax that will raise between 50 and 80 million dollars a year in additional revenue to help plug their 1 billion dollar need for local road improvements. Mayor Joe Hogesett is expected to veto the plan. Will there be enough votes to overturn the veto? Indiana general assembly republican members put the framework in place for the tax increase,  but zero local republicans have supported the plan. Which side will win? Garth Brooks is coming to Indianapolis in August, does he still have the buzz of the 90s? Team USA has been eliminated from the World Cup, McLaren has a murderer’s row driver lineup for IndyCar in 2027, but they just cut loose their winningest driver in 2026 in Christian Lundgaard.Mr Bones brought a game for the guys to wrap the show with.     BHOL 448: America 250: Travis Weik & Payton Cravens

Guests this week are Travis Weik, Editor of The Courier Times, and Payton Cravens, Sports Editor of The Courier Times. America is 250 years old this week and we dig into the importance of having local media in our communities. The 4th estate is considered a protection of this country and there is still a relevance to it in the modern era of media. Payton Cravens tells breaks down what it is like to cover sports news for a community like Henry County.  Local elections are shaping up and we preview the competitive races for County Sheriff, State Representative, State Senate, Township Trustee, and Secretary of State. What surprises might be ahead for the summer? In sports, the World Cup is reaching elimination games. Powerhouses in Scotland, Germany, Japan, and the Netherlands are out. As of recording time, USA is looking at a tough path, but still on track for success! IndyCar is headed to Mid Ohio for the July 4th weekend, weather conditions look brutal for the weekend. Will Zach and Jeremiah melt? The Indiana Pacers made a move to bring Braden Smith to the team, drafting him out of Purdue.     BHOL 347: Lee Marcum - Fresh Line Coffee; Dunreith Fire; Scotland drank Boston dry

    Episode 447 of Boss Hog of Liberty is available now. Host voices are Jeremiah Morrell, Bones Harcourt, and Zachary Burcham. Local entrepreneur Lee Marcum joins us as he launches his new company, Fresh Line Coffee Co. It is focused on getting customers high quality coffee beans immediately after they are roasted. They ship from central Indiana and the flavor names tell a bit of the story, “Still Standing”, “The Comeback”, “Legacy”, and “Fresh Start”. The company promotes that tomorrow always comes, and there are always second chances.In the local segment, we note that the Dunreith fire department and the town of Dunreith have apparently not come to terms on a future contract, and fire services for the community are likely to be different for 2027. Perhaps one of the top three stories in Dunreith history, behind the train derailment and the Goodyear Blimp getting caught in power lines. The Knicks won the NBA title, Carolina Hurricanes are NHL champs. World Cup fever is hitting America as most have fallen in love with the Scottish and the way they drank Boston out of beer. Miami better be prepared for their arrival. IndyCar moves on to Road America, IndyCar owner Dennis Reinbold passed away, and Scott Dixon might be on the move from Chip Ganassi Racing? As the data center has been approved and the fire territory includes the new power plant and data center, what steps is the department taking to prepare for its construction?Mason Rottinghaus has returned from his world tour with Luke Combs. He attended 15 concerts in 9 venues over 3 months, including a very special finale in Toronto where has back stage and was provided an all access pass to the venue. He was a guest of Luke Combs, feasted on king crab, and got the 1st of 100 custom Luke Combs trading cards.Finally, the World Cup starts in North America this week. Be prepared for a few days of chaos. Indiana is the one of the first states to declare “Nuclear Family Month”...Public response has been lukewarm. One State Senate candidate is trying to have her election result changed over social media posts, claiming democrats illegally voted in their election. FOrmer Congressman George Santos is in the news again…This time for “betting” on his attendance for the State of the Union. In sports, Jeremiah gets excited about the “Shaggy” Indycar….Bones can’t believe Jeremiah is a secret Shaggy fan. The Knicks might win an NBA title, and Montreal is out of the playoffs.     BHOL 444: Indy 500 Review; SOS Race Heats Up

It was Ean Southerland’s first race day experience. We look at the day through his fresh set of eyes. What a race it was! Amazing pre-race ceremony, helicopters, drones, fireworks, red flags, rain, and the closest finish in the 100 year history of the speedway. Indiana Politics heat up, as there is another name in the Secretary of State Race, Max Engling is trying to take out Diego Morales for the Republican nomination in June. We will continue to watch this race until it is decided at the Fort Wayne convention. The guys preview the NBA and NHL finals.
