    451: Disc Golf; Indiana Is Indiana over taxing?, Daylight Saving Time Forever?

    Episode 451 of Boss Hog of Liberty is available now. Host voices are Jeremiah Morrell, Bones Harcourt, Betsy Mills, and Kaleb Buchanan. Sara Morrell fills in as guest producer as Zach Burcham is out of town. The big news is the new 18 hole disc golf course that is coming to Memorial Park. Four years in the making, set to open on August 8th. Some local nature organizations have raised environmental concerns, however the park board has voted unanimously to move forward with the project. Indiana has a 1.5 billion dollar budget surplus this summer on the heels of surprisingly high sales tax collections. Gas taxes have been suspended for the summer and our hosts feel like they are being squeezed by BMV registration fees and property taxes. Are these fees and taxes getting out of whack? Does the governors office have too much flexibility in playing games with when taxes are collected? Daylight Saving time might be changing. Permanent DST has passed the US House of Representatives. The US Senate passed it in 2022, but will they pass it again in 2026? President Trump says he would sign it, if it comes to his desk. In Sports, Spain won the World Cup, Alex Palou won Nashville, Alex Bowman is retiring from NASCAR in a year and a half, and the Indiana Fever are now at the top of the WNBA East Standings.     BHOL 449: The Big Fire; Wheel Taxes; 50 States Draft

    Episode 449 of Boss Hog of Liberty is available now. Host voices are Jeremiah Morrell, Bones Harcourt, Forrest Plank and Zachary Burcham. Our guest this week is Kaleb Buchanan, public information officer for Knightstown Fire Department. THey were one of many departments that responded to the fire at the former Montgomery’s Steakhouse in Spiceland this week. A landmark site with memories for almost all of the hosts, multiple departments turned out to attempt to save the building. As of recording, the cause and fate of the building are unknown. It has most recently been used as an event venue.Indianapolis is on the verge of adding a wheel tax that will raise between 50 and 80 million dollars a year in additional revenue to help plug their 1 billion dollar need for local road improvements. Mayor Joe Hogesett is expected to veto the plan. Will there be enough votes to overturn the veto? Indiana general assembly republican members put the framework in place for the tax increase,  but zero local republicans have supported the plan. Which side will win? Garth Brooks is coming to Indianapolis in August, does he still have the buzz of the 90s? Team USA has been eliminated from the World Cup, McLaren has a murderer’s row driver lineup for IndyCar in 2027, but they just cut loose their winningest driver in 2026 in Christian Lundgaard.Mr Bones brought a game for the guys to wrap the show with. Guests this week are Travis Weik, Editor of The Courier Times, and Payton Cravens, Sports Editor of The Courier Times. America is 250 years old this week and we dig into the importance of having local media in our communities. The 4th estate is considered a protection of this country and there is still a relevance to it in the modern era of media. Payton Cravens tells breaks down what it is like to cover sports news for a community like Henry County.  Local elections are shaping up and we preview the competitive races for County Sheriff, State Representative, State Senate, Township Trustee, and Secretary of State. What surprises might be ahead for the summer? In sports, the World Cup is reaching elimination games. Powerhouses in Scotland, Germany, Japan, and the Netherlands are out. As of recording time, USA is looking at a tough path, but still on track for success! IndyCar is headed to Mid Ohio for the July 4th weekend, weather conditions look brutal for the weekend. Will Zach and Jeremiah melt? The Indiana Pacers made a move to bring Braden Smith to the team, drafting him out of Purdue.
