    BHOL 461: State Rep District 54 Candidates: Cory Criswell & Nan Polk

    Episode 461 of Boss Hog of Liberty is available now. Host voices are Jeremiah Morrell, Bones Harcourt, and Zach Burcham. The candidate series starts as we move into October. District 54 State Representative is the first race featured, with incumbent Republican Cory Criswell and Democrat Nan Polk, senior member of the New Castle School Board. Topics include the local flood response and what the state and local governments got right, and how things could have been improved. Indiana has suspended fuel taxes since the spring. Candidates weigh in on the suspension and the process, should there have been a special session? Other hot topic issues covered include data centers, and if Indiana should be doing more to regulate them. Quality of life and affordability have been a massive topic this summer. How will school corporations meet local needs on less dollars after SB1 fully affects local governments. What property tax plan do Criswell and Polk support going forward? Finally, we hear from the candidates on flock cameras and potential reforms that are on the table for 2028. We also use the rear view mirror to talk about the redistricting attempt that failed in the short session. Should off cycle redistricting be considered again in future sessions?     BHOL 460: Affordability, Diesel, and Flock Abuse?

Affordability has come to the top of mind for everyone in the last few weeks. Record high diesel prices, rapidly rising gasoline, and other input costs that have everyone just a little freaked out. Indiana has a gas tax suspension, but nothing on the diesel side. Federally there is talk about an export ban, will that work? If fuel prices stay high, how will it affect the Indiana economy? 70,000 hoosiers are employed in the RV industry. Another 4,000 build trucks in Fort Wayne. A whole lot of Indiana jobs are on the line if recreational spending takes a severe cut. Continuing with the recreational theme, Indiana is spending 25 million dollars to rebuild the campground at McCormicks Creek state park, after the 2023 F3 tornado. THe guys review the plans, and it appears that it will be the nicest state park campgrounds in the DNR system, perhaps taking the top spot away from Prophetstown. Brightline trains are likely going bankrupt, Jake Paul created an Entourage reunion, but it immediately led to a lawsuit by HBO. “Mr Bones” introduces a new segment of “This Day in HIstory” and since Kaleb is a fireman, he has a segment picking on law enforcement and the recent hubbub over Flock cameras.     BHOL 459: Brenda Grider & Flood Response

New Castle and East Central Indiana are a month out from the devastating flooding. Local leader Brenda Grider checks in with us, updating on the response. Brenda is a New Castle native, she tells stories of her past responses in New Orleans from Katrina, Houston flooding, and the tornadoes in Winchester and Henryville, Indiana.  Amazing story of how the locals immediately jumped into action, self organizing and self funding for immediate response. Brenda shared how her network brought together the Church of Christ disaster response team, which led to pallets of food coming into the community, WalMart sending three truck loads of supplies, and countless other match making opportunities.Nationally, diesel prices are getting out of control. Congress has gone home, Jeremiah is frustrated with the lack of response.     BHOL 458: Oreovicz vs Steak N Shake & Road Trip Food

Currently working at Motorsport Magazine, formerly with ESPN, John has travelled the world covering racing and with a lot of road trips, comes a lot of regional cuisine. Steak N Shake is based in Indianapolis and seems to have lost its soul in the last 20 years. They abandoned their core identity and now seem to be playing games with their famous match stick fries. Will Indiana ever get a Bojangles? Is In-N-Out overrated? King Taco might be the greatest “dangerous” food in the country. With all the road tripping talk, how are we supposed to hit the road with $6 diesel and $4 gasoline? Jeremiah is planning a massive camping trip and he is crossing his fingers that they solve the fuel situation, yesterday. Oreovicz shares his story of joining Robin Miller on Kevin Kalkovens jet to London, to buy Cosworth in 2004.  In sports, LIV golf just went bankrupt, Michigan football is the embarrassment of the nation, IU is climbing in the rankings, Ball State DID get a field goal, and the NFL is back.     BHOL 457: Chris Wilkey - Ball State Sales & Community Outreach

    Episode 457 of Boss Hog of Liberty is available now. Host voices are Jeremiah Morrell, Bones Harcourt, and Zach Burcham.  This week the podcast guest is Dr Chris Wilkey, Director of the Ball State University of Professional Selling. We discuss the ways that Ball State makes an impact on surrounding communities, including Henry County. His sales program recruits local students into the program, and they leave with a four year degree and great opportunities for jobs in our area, often with nearly six figure incomes immediately. So much talk about how difficult the career market is, however with some flexibility the jobs are available, and in Indiana. Chris Wilkey is also heavily involved in the community, particularly through the Elks Lodge, and he highlights some programs that their grants have provided. Including a children's coat program that provides new winter coats to every child in Henry County, if interested. Additionally they operate a tiny food pantry, and have been getting classroom snacks out this school year for kids all over New Castle. In sports, Alex Palou just won his 5th IndyCar Championship, Pato O’Ward completed the Milwaukee double. Ball State is headed into Columbus for a brutal match up against Ohio State. Indiana is about to start its new football season, as the national champion…Can they repeat? A review of the schedule says they have a great opportunity. Finally, the Colts season is about to start and their new Wide Receiver Keenan Allen is already making the wrong headlines as he was arrested for DUI in downtown Indianapolis after his first preseason game.     BHOL 456: Dolly Parton; Election Results; DC IndyCar Success

We react to the Knightstown primary special election, as Bart Whitsett wins the Clerk/Treasurer race. This was a special election as the May race accidentally included everyone in Wayne Township, and not just the town limits. Dolly Parton passed away at the age of 80, the guys remember her favorite songs and the incredible philanthropy she demonstrated with the Imagination Library. All Indiana kids are now able to participate in the book program. What was your favorite Dolly Parton song? Islands in the Stream, Coat of Many Colors, I Will Always Love You, When I get Where I’m Going, or something else? President Trump is talking about renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America. Jeremiah thinks Trump can build his legacy with new signature events, like the IndyCar race that he helped create. It was the fifth most watched motorsport event in 2026, with more than 3 million viewers on Sunday. The first celebration in DC this summer without protests.     BHOL 455 - Flood Response - Troy Jester / Rex Peckinpaugh

In the wake of the historic flooding in Henry County, we are joined by Henry County EMA Director Troy Jester and New Castle City Council President Rex Peckinpaugh. Topics include the damage done to the city,  Repair plans for Riley Road, Bowrey Brook which may require a massive tunnel relocation project, and the heroic efforts of first responders who evacuated about 350 citizens. Citizens are urged to call 211 to report all damage, and there is now a plan for flood debris to be collected at a central site near the Henry County Highway garage.  Note - Our audio file filled around the 22 minute mark, so the back end of this episode is from the backup audio source.     BHOL 454: Epic Flooding; 92 County Draft; Shriner Education

Our featured guest is Allen Migliorini who is from North West Indiana and does work with Shriners charities across the country and the incredible children's hospitals that they operate all over the world. The big story this week is the unbelievable rains that landed on Henry County. 12-17” of rain fell on our county, stressing every piece of infrastructure in the area. Homes filled with water, culverts fell, roads washed out, many main arteries in the area were shut down, and as of the time of recording some citizens are still trapped in their neighborhoods because there is simply no access to their homes. We highlight personal stories of wet basements, downed power lines, roads closed due to trees splitting and property damage due to high winds. First responders have been deploying watercraft to rescue people from Knightstown to New Castle.A few weeks back the BHOL team had the 50 States Draft. What could be more on brand for the podcast than a 92 Indiana County draft? With Allen Migliorini being from “The Region” we get a glimpse into how central Indiana is perceived in NWI. Jeremiah’s wife Sara joins the podcast for the draft as well, so we can split 91 counties into 13 rounds, fantasy football style. Who will be picked first? And what is the last county taken?
