    Holy Sexual Ethics

    Leviticus 18 & 20 | JD Summers The modern sexual ethic of our world emphasizes not judging, says consent is the only boundary, and encourages people to be true to themselves. But we must not receive our morality from the world, but from God. God’s call to holiness is comprehensive and includes our sexuality. We must walk in sexual holiness because of God’s own holiness. His grace and authority also motivate us to purity, as does his purpose for our lives. And though the temptation of illicit sex promises gratification, true goodness and fullness of joy come from following God’s commands. Let us trust in God’s good promises!

    The Lord of Life

    Leviticus 17 | JD Summers God had strict requirements for Israel about where and how they were to make sacrifices. This shows that God desires that we offer him exclusive worship and honor the gift of atonement he has given to us. Though we do not take sacrifices to a physical location as we worship in spirit and in truth, we must still worship Christ exclusively, turning away from all other idolatrous and worldly worship. We must not dishonor the blood of Christ, but rather joyfully give thanks for Christ’s sacrificial death for us on the cross. Let us honor Christ’s gift by believing it for salvation!

    Waiting for God and His Timing

    Psalm 27 | Mike Summers God directs our lives according to his good purposes. But we don’t always understand what those purposes are. If we desire to walk by faith, we also must wait by faith, and we can do that by drawing near to the Lord in prayer, pouring out our hearts before him, and humbly trusting that he will guide our steps. By God’s grace, we will look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living!

    You Must Be Made Clean

    Leviticus 16 | JD Summers The book of Leviticus centers around the Day of Atonement, the once-a-year special event where the High Priest entered the Holy of Holies to atone for the entire nation. The Tabernacle had to be cleansed; the High Priest had to be cleansed; everything had to be cleansed. This cleansing met the greatest need of the people, allowing them to remain in God’s presence despite their uncleanness. It required humble repentance from the people, as they submitted themselves to receive the purification they so greatly needed. And it anticipated the future atonement of Jesus Christ, who gave himself as a sacrifice once for all to cover the sins of all who believe in him.

    You Must Be Made Clean

    Leviticus 12-15 | JD Summers Some kinds of uncleanness can be avoided, but many more are built into our existence as humans. Recognizing our uncleanness helps us to remember that we are human, not God. And what’s more, we cannot bring out uncleanness into God’s presence without deadly consequences. In God’s grace and mercy, he anticipates our need and provides the solution, overcoming our sin and uncleanness through the sinless life and cleansing death of Jesus Christ. Let us embrace our Savior to be cleansed from all impurity!

    Holy Food for a Holy People

    Leviticus 11 | JD Summers What can we learn from the Levitical food laws of the nation of Israel? Though believers are not bound by the same dietary restrictions, we are bound to the same holy God who initially gave them to Israel. God’s instructions about food point to his holiness, his distinctness from all else. As we recognize God’s holiness, we are compelled to be holy as he is holy. So let us honor his commandments for us today and delight in walking in holiness!

    Obligated to Help

    Galatians 6:1-5 | Rod Cundiff Our modern world often tries to maximize efficiency through specialization of labor, and there are benefits to this. But when it comes to helping believers in Christ, no one is exempt from participation. Believers are responsible to help one another, displaying love for them by bearing their burdens, seeking to strengthen them during temptation, and restoring them as they repent from sin. At the same time, we all must bear our own burden, owning our sin and taking responsibility for our actions. As we seek to do both, the Spirit of God works in each believer to strengthen and grow the church into the maturity and stature of our Savior Jesus Christ.
