You'll Hear It: Full Album Deep Dives with Jazz Musicians

Dear Peter & Adam, I am an amateur jazz enthusiast and have been looking for a show like this for a long time. Your show is a great mix of analysis and enthusiasm - with the right level on the snobometer even for a beginner like me. I am learning so much from how you talk about the music and it is helping me enjoy jazz in a deeper way. I am also learning to play the alto sax (in my middle age - not an easy thing) and I hope to get to a point where I can join your Open Studio. Thank you for the energy and joy you bring to the show.

These guys know what they’re talking about. Great takes and they really break down the music in an accessible and enjoyable way for casual listeners and even the seasoned musician.

I needed something like this to introduce me to music I am unfamiliar with and to open my horizons. This is great stuff! Thank you!

I listen to these when I’m on the road to a gig. Great curation as far as albums discussed from jazz and beyond. Wouldn’t recommend if you aren’t familiar with the album being dissected, but if you are this can be a fun way to hear a discussion about great music. Seems mostly geared towards casual listeners and fans rather than music nerds and musicians, but that’s okay. Sometimes too many stanky grunts at unnecessary places, sometimes hypocritical (saying Little One and Survival of the Fittest are worth listening to but always skipped over - then proceeding to skip over them), not always accurate or insightful (thinking about the episode for A Love Supreme specifically where it was said “it’s not the kind of album where you can overdub your parts” even though Trane DID overdub on that). Also comparing everything to Kind of Blue and ranking how snobby an album is… corny and lame af I skip that whole outro bit every time. But the plus side is the conversation can be enough to spark another listen to some of my favorite albums of all time. Using the Moises thing to isolate instruments can be cool when they’re really digging in (Charlie Hunter isolated on Spanish Joint? C’mon!). Overall, I’ll keep listening while on the road.
