Tax Refunds, Stocking Up, and Spending with Prudence

Are you treating your tax refund like “free money,” or like the hard-earned money God has entrusted to your family? In this special episode, Amanda and Jonathan Teixeira of WalletWin join Timmerie on Relevant Radio to discuss how Catholic families can navigate tax refunds, rising costs, supply chain concerns, and everyday money decisions with prudence instead of panic. Together, they unpack why a tax refund is not a bonus from the government, but money you already earned, and how to use it wisely through budgeting, debt payoff, emergency savings, generosity, and family priorities. They also discuss how Catholics can think about stocking up, preparing for uncertain financial times, and caring for their families without falling into fear or hoarding. Amanda and Jonathan also answer listener questions about buying a car while living paycheck to paycheck, whether young couples need a financial planner, how much rent is too much, budgeting as a married couple, and starting a Roth IRA. The episode also includes a personal update from the Teixeiras on welcoming their fifth child through adoption and the role of faith, openness to life, and St. Joseph’s example in their family story. 📌 In this episode: Why your tax refund is not “free money”How to budget your tax refund wiselyWhen to pay off debt vs. build emergency savingsHow to adjust tax withholdings for the futureCatholic prudence during rising costs and supply chain concernsStocking up without panic or hoardingBuying a car while living paycheck to paycheckBudgeting as a married coupleHow much rent should cost compared to incomeRoth IRA basics for young adultsAmanda and Jonathan’s adoption update Learn more about WalletWin at www.WalletWin.com.

Adoption Tell-All: Everything Went Wrong. Nothing Was an Accident.

We were supposed to be home in two days. That's what we thought when Amanda flew alone to Austin, Texas to meet our brand-new son — four pounds, three ounces, and so tiny it took your breath away. Jonathan stayed back in Omaha with a sick kid and a house to hold together. It was supposed to be a quick NICU stay. Feed and grow. Home by the weekend. It was anything but. In this episode, we're telling the whole story — the adoption tell-all our community has been waiting for. We're talking about the email that came on our other son's birthday and what it felt like when we both just knew. We're talking about the NICU honeymoon that turned into a medical emergency. We're talking about the flight out of Omaha that should have already left — and somehow wasn't gone yet. We're talking about walking into a Maronite Catholic church across the street from a children's hospital and hearing a priest say our son's name out loud before the Liturgy. We're talking about the moment it became impossible to believe any of this was accidental. This one doesn't have a lot of financial teaching in it. That's okay. Sometimes a story is just a story — and this one is one of the best ones we've ever lived. Peter is home. He is loved. And God had His hands on every single detail. This episode is brought to you by the WalletWin Spring Bundle of Joy — the Catholic Money Academy, WalletWin Kids Courses, and the MoneyTogether Couples Workshop, all bundled together for one special price.
