    SECOND LOOK: The Mandalay Bay Massacre — Nine Years On

    On 1 October 2017, a gunman opened fire on thousands of people attending the Route 91 Harvest music festival on the Las Vegas Strip, committing the deadliest mass shooting by a lone gunman in modern US history. Nine years on, we’re returning to one of the most devastating cases we’ve ever covered for the latest instalment of Seeing Red: Second Look. Originally released in 2022, Mark recorded this episode just days after returning from Las Vegas, where a visit to the Mandalay Bay hotel inspired him to explore the events of that night. In a newly recorded introduction, he reflects on visiting the resort and the strange normality of a place where there was little visible acknowledgement of the horror that had unfolded there just a few years earlier. The episode also gives a voice to some of those who survived the attack, including stories of extraordinary courage, resilience and, in one particularly tragic case, an almost unimaginable twist of fate.     Trapped Underground: Terror Beneath the Surface

    This week, we’re venturing away from our usual true crime territory for something a little different. Just as we’ve previously explored disasters including the Great Smog of London and the Titanic, this week Bethan takes us deep underground for three extraordinary stories of caving expeditions that went terribly wrong. Beginning here in the UK, before travelling to the United States and finally Thailand, these are stories of exploration, extreme environments and the terrifying reality of becoming trapped far beneath the surface. The first two cases take us to some particularly dark places, involving desperate rescue attempts and devastating consequences, while our final story became an international race against time that gripped the world.     The Death of Kelly Neill: What Happened in Deptford?

    Ben Geen: The Killer Nurse — Revisited

    In 2006, nurse Ben Geen was convicted of murdering two patients and seriously harming 15 others while working at Horton General Hospital in Banbury, Oxfordshire. Prosecutors said Geen deliberately injected patients with potentially lethal drugs before reveling in the medical emergencies that followed. He was sentenced to life imprisonment and ordered to serve a minimum of 30 years. Geen has always maintained his innocence. This week, Seeing Red revisits one of the most fascinating and unsettling medical murder cases we've covered. Before the original episode begins, Mark returns with a new 10–15 minute update. With the Lucy Letby case continuing to dominate headlines and raise difficult questions about how suspected medical murders are identified and investigated, Mark looks again at the evidence against Geen — and asks whether his conviction still feels as compelling as it once did. He also explores the striking parallels between Geen and Letby; why hospital managers can appear reluctant to involve the police even when staff suspect a colleague may be harming patients; the extraordinary coincidence involving Geen and an actress playing a killer nurse in Holby City; and whether Mark's growing doubts about the Letby convictions have made him question Ben Geen's guilt too. Plus, an unfortunate encounter between a syringe and Geen's jacket prompts Mark to revisit some highly questionable medical terminology from the original episode.
