Your 30s Are For Becoming, Not Explaining Yourself | For Mannerless Women Live

Welcome to the very first For Mannerless Women Live! We're kicking off our journey through the decades of womanhood with Act 1: Becoming; Our 30s. What happens when you stop defining yourself by who you've been, what you've survived or what everyone expects you to become? In this powerful, hilarious and deeply honest conversation, Adelle Onyango is joined by Dushy Kuria and Lolo Cynthia to unpack the beautiful, uncomfortable and liberating experience of becoming yourself in your 30s. From letting go of the pressure to always be the strong woman, to setting boundaries with family, embracing your body, choosing a childfree life, learning to rest without guilt and finally owning the parts of yourself you once tried to shrink, this conversation is a reminder that you are allowed to change. And sometimes, becoming the woman you want to be means trusting her before you've even met her. In this episode, we explore: Redefining your identity beyond marriage, family and societal expectations. Learning to choose softness instead of constantly performing strength. Setting boundaries with family, friends and even yourself. Embracing your body and making reproductive choices without apology. Letting go of the pressure to have everything figured out by 30. Learning to slow down, be present and trust the woman you're becoming. Owning your loudness and taking up space unapologetically. Recorded in front of our incredible Mannerless community in Nairobi, this is the first of three acts exploring womanhood through our 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond. Next week: Act 2: Our 40s! For Mannerless Women is a Legally Clueless Africa production, committed to nurturing a new generation of shame-free women. The Problem With Women Who Say "Could Never Be Me" | Mid Week Tease

"Could never be me!" How often have you heard women say this when another woman shares her experience of heartbreak, betrayal, or a harmful relationship? But what if this response isn't just unkind? What if believing another woman's experience could never happen to you is also stopping you from learning from it? In this episode of The Mid Week Tease, Adelle Onyango unpacks why some women respond to other women's relationship experiences with judgment instead of empathy, the psychology behind believing we're immune to certain experiences, and why another woman's heartbreak should never become an opportunity to feel superior. In this episode, we explore: Why women sometimes respond to other women's heartbreak with "Could never be me." The psychology behind believing we're too smart, independent, or self-aware to experience certain relationship challenges. How judgment can prevent us from learning from other women's experiences. Why shame and victim-blaming can make it harder for women to seek support. The difference between having strong boundaries and judging women whose choices differ from ours. Five practical ways to respond with more empathy when another woman shares a painful experience. A reminder: You are not better than another woman simply because you haven't experienced her pain. And you don't need to experience what she's experienced to recognize her humanity. We'd love to hear from you: Have you ever shared a painful relationship experience and been met with a "could never be me" response? How did it make you feel? 🎧 The Mid Week Tease is a Legally Clueless Africa show. New episodes every Wednesday, wherever you listen to podcasts. She Lost Her Parents, Her Home & Had to Fight to Survive | Legally Clueless Ep 400

She Lost Her Parents, Her Home & Had to Fight to Survive | Daughtie's Story (Part 1) What happens when the people who are supposed to protect you become the very people who hurt you? In this episode of the Legally Clueless podcast, we meet Daughtie, whose extraordinary story of survival begins with a childhood marked by loss, sexual abuse, rejection and instability. After losing her parents, Daughtie finds herself moving between relatives' homes, searching for safety and belonging. But instead of receiving the care and protection every child deserves, she encounters betrayal, mistreatment and circumstances that force her to grow up far too quickly. In Part 1 of this three-part story, Daughtie opens up about the experiences that shaped her childhood, the devastating consequences of being failed by the adults around her, and what it means to lose not just your home, but your sense of safety. This is a story that challenges us to think about how we protect vulnerable children, the lasting impact of childhood trauma, and the importance of compassion. You're Not Bitter. Maybe Your Anger Is Trying To Tell You Something. | Mid Week Tease

Have you ever felt angry about something that happened months or even years ago, then immediately felt guilty for not being over it? Women are often taught to be patient, forgiving and understanding. But what happens when we're so busy extending compassion to everyone else that we forget to extend it to ourselves? This week on The Mid Week Tease, Adelle Onyango unpacks our complicated relationship with anger, why women are often made to feel ashamed of it, and how anger can sometimes reveal hurt, unmet needs, crossed boundaries and imbalances in our relationships. From understanding the difference between anger and resentment to recognising why painful memories can still trigger waves of anger long after an experience, Adelle explores how we can listen to our emotions without allowing them to control our decisions. She also shares 5 practical ways to develop a healthier relationship with anger, including how to identify what's really hurting you, recognise when something needs to change, and move forward without forcing forgiveness.Because your anger is not automatically a problem to fix. Sometimes it's an emotion worth listening to. But you get to decide what you do with it. He Called It Love. It Was Coercive Control PART 2 | Legally Clueless Ep 399

In the concluding part of Makena's story, a terrifying suspicion becomes reality when she confronts her partner about accessing her private conversations and information on her phone. What follows is a deeply personal account of digital surveillance, emotional abuse and coercive control, and the lasting impact of having your privacy, independence and sense of safety violated by someone you trusted. Makena reflects on the warning signs she struggled to recognise, how her relationship gradually isolated her from the people she loved, and what it took to begin reclaiming her freedom. Her story reminds us that abuse doesn't have to be physical to be devastating, and control is not love.🎧 Catch Part 1 of Makena's story in Episode 398. Who Benefits When Women Make Themselves Smaller? | For Mannerless Women

Who benefits when women believe they are too loud, too angry, too ambitious or simply too much? This week on For Mannerless Women, Adelle sits down with feminist activist and Executive Director of Dada Collective Network, Zaha Indimuli, for a conversation about the many ways women are taught to make themselves smaller and what becomes possible when we refuse. They unpack respectability politics, self-censorship and how constantly being told to “tone it down” can eventually affect more than how we communicate. It can shape our ambitions, our desires and how much space we believe we are allowed to occupy. Zaha also shares why self-love, joy and rest can be acts of rebellion, how anger and love can both have a place in activism, and why sisterhood can become a powerful force for collective change. The conversation also explores women’s political power, organizing around End Femicide Kenya, the barriers women face when participating in politics and what could become possible when more women recognize the power of organizing collectively. In this episode: The hidden impact of constantly being told to “tone it down”Why women learn to self-censor and minimize themselvesRespectability politics and the fear of being “too much”Why self-love, joy and rest can be acts of rebellionAnger, love and sustaining activismWomen who become gatekeepers of patriarchyThe healing and political power of sisterhoodOrganizing around End Femicide KenyaThe barriers women face in political participationBuilding collective political power among Kenyan womenCONNECT WITH ZAHA INDIMULI Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/zaha.speaks TikTok: @zaha.speaks LinkedIn: Zaha Indimuli Dada Collective Network: https://dada-collective.network/ End Femicide Kenya: https://www.instagram.com/endfemicideke FOR MANNERLESS WOMEN For Mannerless Women is a space committed to nurturing a new generation of shame-free African women. Is It Love Or Are You Being Controlled? | Mid Week Tease

What happens when control doesn’t actually feel like control? Sometimes it sounds like, “I just worry about you.” Sometimes jealousy feels like proof that someone really cares. Sometimes constantly checking in feels like closeness. And sometimes we slowly begin changing how we dress, who we see, where we go and what we say just to keep the peace. Inspired by Makena’s story on Legally Clueless, this week on The Mid Week Tease, Adelle unpacks how easily control can be mistaken for love in romantic relationships and why one of the most revealing questions we can ask is: What happens when I say no? In this episode, we talk about: Why jealousy and possessiveness can sometimes feel romanticThe difference between care, consideration and controlWhat your partner’s response to “no” can revealHow we can slowly start policing ourselves to keep the peaceThe difference between privacy and secrecy in relationshipsWhy boundaries and control are not the same thingHow to notice when your world is becoming smaller inside a relationshipWhy “But they love me” isn’t always enoughThe importance of maintaining your autonomy while loving someoneAnd perhaps the biggest question of all:Can you be fully yourself while being loved by this person?
