Women and Crime

It is such a breath of the right air, hearing educated women speak on these topics. None of that "oh my God yeah literallyyyughhh" and it's so important that you don't always agree; as a listener I value that so much.

I have enjoyed all of their podcasts for several years. While I disagreed with the Direct Appeal Season 2 opinions I still very much enjoyed all of their podcasts. In Spring of 2024, I disagreed with their opinions of the Karen Read Trial as I feel like so much was left out but I continued to listen. They never did a follow up on the Karen Read Trial even though they claimed it was ridiculous that all the police could not be involved even though it’s clear that a lot of shady things were going on but I still listened. I honestly don’t think I can listen after the coverage of the Clancy case. I am not accusing PC of anything but it’s clear that a full investigation was not done. They just took the husband’s word and did not even test the lemonade that he claimed she crushed pills into. If it’s said, well they didn’t test because she confessed, no, at that point she did not! She was in a coma for days. Then had to be told what happened. They waited months to collect other things. It’s not that we need a villain, we just know that if this were not an educated middle-class white man, he would have been looked at differently! He was the only survivor and they never looked at him at all. They just took his word. You said before in Direct Appeal Season 1 that “we” are the checks and balances, but in these two cases of KR and PC, you seem to think the book should be closed and nothing looked at, why?

Every episode I learn something new. Everything is well researched, thoughtful, respectful, and inspiring. Thank you Amy and Meghan!

I have listened on and off for a few years now. I really want to be able to like this podcast, but I just don't. I listen to a lot of em and like every millennial woman I know my true crime. Women & Crime should be a slam dunk for me. But there's to many obnoxious things to have to look past and I find myself annoyed every time it comes on. First, the Ads. My god, more than 25% of any given episode is advertising, and the ads repeat within the same episode. Wayfair! Wayfair! Wayfair! Secondly, I don't think they have a unique, or even interesting way of discussing the case. It's just, bleh, there. I have listened to dozens of podcasters cover the same cases and still find it entertaining and enjoyable, but it's just a slog waiting for the end, prolonged by 64 commercials about a rug she bought once. I really hate the wrap up section, "so... did the system get it right?" It's just so tired. And then they quiz each other on what theories they think could apply and I'm sorry, this is not an intro criminology class. It's a forced perspective- to "put a unique spin" on the true crime genre. Listener, it does not. This entire chunk of the podcast could be cut to no detriment. Then we have hear the listener questions they read at the end. They have the dumbest, most boring questions. "Amy and Megan what's your favorite ice-cream topping!?" It's tacked on to end add a few minutes to the timer to appear as though the 11 minutes of ads you had to listen to (thrice) is more reasonable. I can't imagine how they get this volume of ads, a meh journey of contrived ideas and uninteresting hosts. I juuusssstttt dddooonnnttt ccccaaaarrreeeeeeeeeee.
