Why the Best Expert Doesn't Always Win the Client ... and the simple fix that changes everything. #318

What if the reason people aren't choosing you isn't because you need more expertise, but because the expertise you already have has become harder to explain? There's a strange paradox that can happen as you become more experienced. You see more nuance, more possibilities and more of the factors that influence whether something will work. Your answer is increasingly, "It depends." Meanwhile, someone offering a much simpler solution, with less experience and expertise than you, may be easier for a potential client to understand – and therefore easier to choose. The answer isn't to dumb down your expertise. It's to make its value easier for the right people to recognise. In this solo episode of The Art of Value Whispering podcast, I explore: why deeper expertise can sometimes make your value harder to communicate; why a simple solution can fit a client's current understanding of their problem better than a more sophisticated one; the valuable abilities your experience may have made almost invisible to you; why years of experience, qualifications and credentials don't speak for themselves; and a simple "which means…" exercise to translate what you know into a difference your right client can understand and value. Because your clients don't need to understand everything you know. They need to understand what everything you know makes possible for them. Listen next: Episode 315 — Why Brilliant Experts Struggle to Attract Clients (and Why It's Probably Not for the Reason You Think), where I explore the Value Recognition Problem and why what looks like a marketing problem can sometimes begin much earlier.   About Melitta Campbell Melitta Campbell is the creator of the Value Whispering® methodology, a 3x bestselling author and an award-winning communications and marketing expert with more than 30 years' experience helping organisations, leaders and service-based experts communicate their value more clearly. How to Price Your Expertise for Profit and Value

If your business isn't as profitable as you'd like, you might assume you need more clients. But what if attracting more clients could actually make the problem worse? For many coaches, consultants and service-based experts, the real issue isn't how many clients they're attracting. It's that their expertise has been priced around hours, sessions and what feels comfortable to charge – rather than the value of the outcome they create. My guest today is my good friend Robin Waite, business coach and author of Fearless Pricing. Together, we explore what needs to change when you stop selling your time and start thinking more deeply about value, profitability and the business you actually want to build. Why This Conversation Matters Pricing and Value Whispering are more closely connected than they might first appear. You can tell yourself to raise your prices, but if you're unclear about the value behind them, standing confidently behind that new number can be difficult. And simply doubling your prices doesn't automatically make your offer more valuable. Robin's approach takes the conversation further – connecting your price to the outcome you create, the way you package your expertise, the clients you choose to work with and the experience you're able to give them. Because your price is part of how you communicate your value – but it can only do that effectively when the value behind it is clear, credible and consistently experienced. In this episode, you'll discover: • Why more clients can make an unprofitable business even harder to run • Why selling packs of hours isn't the same as packaging your expertise around an outcome • A simple calculation to test whether your current pricing can support the business you want • Why discounting may cost considerably more than the percentage you take off your price • What "you're too expensive" might really be telling you • Why silence can be one of the most useful things you bring to a sales conversation • How Robin's 30/30/30 approach can help you test a new price without allowing one rejection to determine your strategy This episode is for you if: • You suspect you're undercharging but feel uncomfortable increasing your prices • You're busy with clients but your business still isn't as profitable as you'd like • You price your services by the hour, day or session and aren't sure how to move beyond that • You find yourself discounting or over-explaining when a potential client questions your price If this conversation gives you a new perspective on the value of your expertise, follow The Art of Value Whispering for more ideas to help you become the obvious choice through smarter – not louder – marketing. If you're good at what you do, but marketing your business still feels harder than it should, it's easy to assume you need a better strategy, more visibility or simply more time. In this episode, you'll hear: why doing more marketing isn't always the answer when attracting clients feels hard the conversation that led me to uncover the missing piece in so many small businesses what Value Whispering actually means the three pillars of the Value Whispering Blueprint: True Value, Value Weaving and Self-Leadership why great marketing begins with understanding your clients and the value you create for them how to become the obvious choice without becoming louder, pushier or someone you're not why your best marketing strategy is one that works with your strengths, values and ambitions Think of this episode as your starting point for the new season of The Art of Value Whispering and the ideas we'll be exploring together in the weeks ahead. Why Brilliant Experts Struggle to Attract Clients (and Why It's Probably Not for the Reason You Think)

🎙️ Why Brilliant Experts Struggle to Attract Clients (and Why It's Probably Not for the Reason You Think) with Melitta Campbell | The Art of Value Whispering Podcast (Episode 315)   What if the reason you're struggling to attract more clients isn't your marketing at all? Many brilliant experts assume they need a better strategy, more visibility or another marketing tactic. But after working with hundreds of business owners, I've found that the real challenge often starts much earlier. It's not a marketing problem. It's a Value Recognition Problem. In this episode, I introduce the Five Value Gaps that quietly stop people recognising your value and explain why attracting the right clients starts long before your marketing strategy. This episode explores one of the core principles of Value Whispering: when people don't fully understand the value of your work, no amount of marketing can consistently solve the problem. Greater clarity—not louder marketing—is what creates lasting business growth. In this episode, you'll discover: Why many business owners don't actually have a marketing problem. What a Value Recognition Problem really is. Why more visibility won't automatically attract better clients. The Five Value Gaps that could be limiting your business growth. Why recognising your own value helps others recognise it too. The one question that could completely change where you focus your marketing next. This episode is for you if... You're attracting fewer clients than your expertise deserves. Your marketing feels like hard work with inconsistent results. You're wondering why people don't seem to recognise the value you bring. You're ready to stop chasing more visibility and start building greater clarity. If this episode changes the way you think about marketing, follow The Art of Value Whispering Podcast and share it with another expert who needs to hear it.     About Your Host, Melitta Campbell Melitta Campbell is the creator of the Value Whispering® methodology, a 3x bestselling author and an award-winning business strategist who has spent more than 30 years helping organisations, leaders and service-based experts communicate their value with greater clarity and confidence. The Storytelling Mistake That's Costing You Clients, with guest Sophie Jane Lee

🎙️The Storytelling Mistake That's Costing You Clients with Sophie Jane Lee | The Art of Value Whispering Podcast (Episode 314)   Your story doesn't need to be more polished. It needs to feel more true. Many experts struggle with storytelling because they're searching for the perfect words. But the real challenge often starts much earlier: we've become so used to editing ourselves that we've forgotten how to trust our own voice. In this episode, storytelling strategist, founder of Electric Peach and author of Beyond Palatable, Sophie Jane Lee explores why the stories we tell ourselves shape the stories we're willing to share—and how greater self-trust leads to more authentic communication, stronger relationships and deeper impact. The Value Whispering Connection One of the core principles of Value Whispering is that people connect with clarity, not performance. Sophie reminds us that the most compelling stories aren't carefully crafted to impress—they're grounded in genuine experiences that help others see the value of who you are and the work you do. In this episode, you'll discover: Why the biggest barrier to storytelling isn't finding the right words—it's trusting yourself. Why resonance creates a stronger connection than simply being more visible. How to tell your story without making yourself the hero. The difference between self-expression and self-trust. Why responsible vulnerability builds trust without oversharing. How listening makes you a better storyteller and communicator. Why community plays such an important role in building confidence. This episode is for you if... You struggle to talk about yourself or your work. You wonder whether your story is interesting enough. You're unsure how much of yourself to share in your marketing. You want your communication to feel more natural, authentic and memorable. If this conversation resonates with you, follow The Art of Value Whispering Podcast and share it with another expert who's ready to communicate their value with greater confidence. ****************************************************** About Your Host, Melitta Campbell Melitta Campbell is the creator of the Value Whispering® methodology, a 3x bestselling author and an award-winning business strategist who has spent more than 30 years helping organisations, leaders and service-based experts communicate their value with greater clarity and confidence. The Real Reason You Keep Second-Guessing Yourself, with guest Ruth Andermatt

🎙️  The Real Reason You Keep Second-Guessing Yourself with Ruth Andermatt | The Art of Value Whispering Podcast (Episode 313)   Have you ever felt as though you need to be more confident, more outspoken or more visible to succeed? It's an easy belief to fall into, especially when we're surrounded by examples of leadership that seem louder, faster and more assertive than feels natural. But what if authentic leadership isn't about becoming someone else? What if it's about trusting yourself enough to lead in a way that feels true to who you are? In this episode of The Art of Value Whispering Podcast, I'm joined by leadership coach Ruth Andermatt to explore why self-leadership is the foundation of authentic leadership. Drawing on her experience as the only female director leading a team of 70 men in corporate Canada, Ruth shares the lessons she's learnt about trusting your intuition, leading with integrity and helping others succeed without compromising who you are. Together, we explore why so many women feel they need to perform rather than lead, how to reconnect with your own strengths, and why coming home to yourself can transform not only the way you lead, but the way you build your business too. This isn't a conversation about becoming louder. It's about becoming more intentional. Leading with quiet confidence. And recognising that the qualities you've been overlooking may be the very ones your team, your clients and your business need most.   💡 WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODE ★ Why self-leadership is the foundation of authentic leadership ★ What Ruth learnt from leading a team of 70 men in corporate Canada ★ Why so many women feel they need to become someone else to succeed ★ How to trust your intuition when making difficult decisions ★ The difference between performing leadership and leading authentically ★ Why "coming home to yourself" can change the way you lead and live ★ How asking for help can become one of your greatest strengths ★ Why authentic leadership and authentic marketing have more in common than you might think   *********************************************** 📍 TIMESTAMPS 00:00 – Welcome & introducing Ruth Andermatt 03:10 – From corporate leadership to coaching women leaders 08:15 – Leading a team of 70 men as the only female director 15:20 – Why performance builds trust and credibility 20:45 – Self-leadership and trusting your intuition 27:40 – Why women often try to become someone they're not 34:10 – What it means to "come home to yourself" 39:15 – Midlife, boundaries and leading with intention 44:20 – Asking for help and the power of receiving 47:40 – Ruth's final advice for women in leadership 49:30 – Melitta's reflections and closing thoughts   ************************************************ About Your Host, Melitta Campbell Melitta Campbell is the creator of the Value Whispering® methodology, a 3x bestselling author and an award-winning communications and marketing expert who has spent more than 30 years helping organisations, leaders and service-based experts communicate their value with greater clarity and confidence. Conversations that Sell (without being Salesy)

🎙️ Conversations That Sell (Without Being Salesy) with Cori Josias | The Art of Value Whispering Podcast (Episode 312)   What if the best sales conversations don't feel like selling at all? Many business owners assume they need more confidence, better scripts or stronger persuasion techniques to win more clients. But what if the real goal of a sales conversation isn't to convince someone to buy—it's to help them find clarity? In this episode, business coach Cori Josias shares how she's built a thriving coaching business through genuine one-to-one conversations rather than endless social media content or complicated marketing funnels. Together, we explore why commitment matters more than confidence, how deep listening builds trust, and why meaningful conversations consistently outperform transactional selling. Why This Matters One of the core principles of Value Whispering is that people don't need to be persuaded—they need to understand the value of solving their problem and why you're the right person to help. Cori's approach beautifully demonstrates how curiosity, clarity and genuine conversations create far stronger client relationships than pressure or persuasion ever could. In this episode, you'll discover: Why commitment creates confidence—not the other way around. How deep listening becomes one of your greatest marketing advantages. What makes a sales conversation feel supportive instead of salesy. Why clarity is far more powerful than persuasion. How "gifted coaching" helps people experience your value before they buy. Why meaningful conversations consistently outperform transactional selling. How to build a marketing strategy that fits your personality, values and strengths. This episode is for you if... Sales conversations make you uncomfortable. You're tired of feeling like you need to post constantly just to stay visible. You want to attract clients through trust rather than pressure.
