Modern Nubs from Hawaii to Kronstadt & Paris with Santo Bartez — Part 6 of 7 | Classics Rotation

Santo Bartez turns to nubs on modern buildings: a Hindu temple in Hawaii completed in 2023, its sister temple in India, a 19th-century Russian fort, and a famous church in central Paris. He and the host ask why modern builders add nubs at all, and why some then chisel them off. Santo says a Hindu monastery temple in Hawaii was carved in India, shipped over, and assembled with nubs that construction photos show, and that masons later chiseled them off and resurfaced the stone; his emails to the temple asking why got only a generic reply. He calls the nubs maker's marks or assembly instructions in this case. The same architect, who he says died around 2018 or 2019, designed the Mani Mandapam temple in India, built about 2009 to 2011, which still has wall, D-shaped, and statue nubs, though Santo says some were removed after about 2019. He describes this, carefully and with respect for the temples, as a kind of cargo cult: copying the old look without knowing why, and the host says if you are paying homage, the half-removed nubs make little sense. At Fort Milyutin in Kronstadt, near St. Petersburg and dated to the mid-1800s, Santo shows large square nubs at different angles and planes and argues a rope would slide off them, so lifting does not explain them; they also mention the polygonal wall on a back corner dock. At Saint-Eustache in Paris he shows triangle, square, and rectangular nubs on a church he says was built, burned, damaged, and restored from the 1200s through the 1800s, including work under architect Victor Baltard, yet the protrusions stayed. He counts patterns of nubs on the back of a tower and traces them through an old drawing, old photos, and street view. Images described here were shown on screen in the original video. Didyma, Delphi, a French Dolmen & a Taiwan Museum Mystery with Santo Bartez — Part 5 of 7 | Classics Rotation

Santo Bartez looks at triangle and square nubs in Greece and Turkey, inscriptions written around a nub at Delphi, and a French passage dolmen with four nubs that he calls one of the earliest expressions of the idea. The host and Santo also take on the fertility explanation, and the part closes with an unusual nubbed block in a Taiwanese museum. At the Temple of Apollo at Didyma, an oracle site with a natural spring, Santo shows alternating long and square nubs on huge megalithic blocks, triangle-shaped nubs he believes held special meaning, and a tunnel where Greek letters appear on nubs among graffiti from many eras. The host says some of the stone looks almost melted; Santo says the site has been sacked many times. At Delphi he points to writing that was carved around a nub instead of over it, which he takes as proof the nub meant something to the writers. In Athens he shows triangles by a drain and a wall covered in nubs, and jokes that the cats, like Peru's llamas, know the answer. He then turns to his favorite subject, dolmens, explaining the standard burial-chamber view and why he doubts it, and shows a passage dolmen in France known as a "fairy house," with two raised nubs and two hollowed ones at the back of the chamber. He finds the usual reading of the raised pair as breasts and fertility imagery a hard sell and says fertility has replaced "ritual" as the default label, while the host asks why builders this skilled would believe drawings could cause pregnancy. Santo says he sees the dolmen as a formative stage of the nub idea, while noting it was excavated in the 1920s and 1930s and later restored. The part ends at Taiwan's National Museum of Prehistory, where a block with square nubs, a pinch hole, and a shelf like one at Ollantaytambo is on display; Santo says emails asking about it have gone unanswered. Indian Temple Nubs, Sardinia's Sacred Wells & Sigiriya with Santo Bartez — Part 4 of 7 | Classics Rotation

Santo Bartez continues through India before moving to the Nuragic sacred wells of Sardinia and on to Sri Lanka, comparing crude nubs on finely finished stone, nubs grouped two, three, and four to a block, and nubs carved beside ponds and fountains. It is a good part for anyone tracking how the shapes change from one region to the next. At an Indian temple complex in disrepair, Santo shows large, rough, crescent or "D" nubs on blocks, stairwells, columns, and walls whose surrounding stone is highly finished, and talks about how hard it is for activists to fund restorations. The host wonders why some nubs are red and others gray; Santo puts it down to sun and weather exposure. He saves a temple he calls modern for later, noting it has been rebuilt many times without the nubs being removed. In Sardinia he describes the Nuragic people as a "nub culture" and shows the sacred wells, with square and round nubs placed at the ends of blocks. He says he could almost accept lifting there, but adds that using a screwdriver to drive a nail does not make it a hammer. At another well, used and reused beside a Christian church, he points to long nubs, a block with only one, an atrium with a brazier, and unfinished surfacing. He says most blocks carry one or two nubs, three or four is rare, and the only blocks he knows with four or more are at Ollantaytambo; his request for examples in the comments is part of the original recording. At Sigiriya in Sri Lanka he shows bedrock nubs cut with small niches above a pond, then columns and temple walls where he believes nubs traveled with Hinduism and Buddhism, may have served as assembly instructions that later builders misread, and sit beside water at a lotus-shaped fountain and next to Buddhist statues. He also explains the catalog numbers marked on restored temple blocks. Images described here were shown on screen in the original video. This is an archival replay, not current news. Urartian Walls, Pasargadae's Throne Hill & Hampi's Nub Patterns with Santo Bartez — Part 3 of 7 | Classics Rotation

Santo Bartez takes the host from Armenia to Iran and India, showing nubs on rough walls built from older precision blocks, on a huge unfinished platform near the tomb of Cyrus the Great, and in patterned rows on a Hampi temple. If you want the site-by-site part of the conversation, this is where he argues that the nub idea survived as it passed between builders. At the hilltop fortress Santo calls Teishebaini in Armenia, tied to the Urartian kingdom and dated to about 650 BC, he describes crude polygonal walls that still keep their nubs, and blocks with sharp right-angle cuts that he believes came from an older site that was destroyed and rebuilt. He says digs at sites like this stop once a satisfying answer is found. At Pasargadae in Iran he shows Tall-e Takht, a platform he says was 15 m high and 80 m long, with damage holes and square nubs on the valley-facing side in the beveled, Hellenistic-style masonry also found across Anatolia and Persia. He asks why a lifting nub would sit far off-center on a smoothed block, and they briefly sort out what counts as a beveled versus textured block. He notes the platform was abandoned after Cyrus died, with later grout and tile repairs he cannot explain. At Hampi in India, on a major river, he shows the Hazara Rama temple, where nubs on the outer wall form a shifting one-two pattern that he says could be an encoded language but does not repeat across the wall. He reads the foundation nubs on lower courses as possible mason's marks, points to unfinished carvings, and ends at a sunken temple that he says was dug down near the water table and still floods, which he takes as more of the water context. Images described here were shown on screen in the original video. This is an archival replay, not current news. Original YouTube publish date: September 13, 2025. Polygonal Walls, Time-Traveling Builders & Cusco Bedrock Nubs with Santo Bartez — Part 2 of 7 | Classics Rotation

Santo Bartez and the host move from single nubs to the wider set of hallmarks found beside them, from pinch holes and damage holes to polygonal walls, and to their view that whoever built these sites did not think the way we do. The second half starts the photo walkthrough of the original video, with Santo describing nubs carved into bedrock around Cusco and at Ñusta Hispana. The host says nubs matter most alongside other hallmarks like polygonal masonry, beveled blocks, and pinch holes, and Santo describes finding nubs and pinch holes together on what is called a Roman temple of Jupiter in Croatia. He calls "complex questions bring uncomfortable answers" his favorite phrase, and they push back on friends who decide all history is fake or everything is geopolymer. Santo says sites like Qenqo in Peru are a "playground of the gods" where the stonework has no explanation; the host says polygonal walls look pre-planned by minds unlike ours, whether that means a human cousin, aliens, or dragons. Santo, who cuts foam with a hot wire to build model terrain, says the walls at Sacsayhuamán look cut the same way, and suggests later inheritors of the tools did weaker work. The host shares a theory she likes from a past guest, Patrick Riley, that Atlantis came from the future through time travel, and says she has wondered whether gravity or the planet's physics were different; Santo mentions Saturn being closer and the electric universe as ideas he keeps open. Santo says he got into this during the 2020 pandemic, and the host says she is 8 to 10 years in with no firm answers. Then they turn to images: a bedrock outcrop near Cusco with circles and a square in a pattern Santo compares to the quipu, nubs that look "blown out," and a possible plug or mount point. He contrasts the smaller Cusco wall nubs, then shows the white stone Yurak Rumi at Ñusta Hispana with rectangular and round nubs on a quarried boulder, and a gouge feature he says he has also tracked in Iran. Images described here were shown on screen in the original video. This is an archival replay, not current news. Original YouTube publish date: September 13, 2025. Defining Nubs, Lifting Theories & Glowing Tomb Knobs with Santo Bartez — Part 1 of 7 | Classics Rotation

Researcher Santo Bartez joins the host for a primer on nubs, the stone protrusions left on megalithic blocks, walls, and bedrock from Peru to Egypt, Turkey, India, and China. This opening part lays out what nubs are, the usual explanations for them, and why both speakers doubt there is one answer that fits every site. Santo defines nubs as protrusions connected to the stone, also called knobs or lifting bosses, and lists the common theories: lifting or moving aids and mason's marks. His own framing, repeated through the talk, is that nubs were an idea passed from culture to culture, with each one reshaping it. The host runs through the range she has seen, from tiny bumps to nubs bigger than her torso, round, square, D-shaped, triangular, and the inverted "anti-nub" she says she finds in Peru, placed with no consistent position on a wall or block. Santo says Anatolia shows more local consistency, with theater nubs, triangles, and squares, and says, as his observation, that nubs tend to appear near water. Both argue that if nubs were only for lifting, builders skilled enough to raise these walls would have removed them. The host shares three ideas she likes: anchor points for a casing, like the bumps used with Invisalign braces; a story she recalls from an Erich von Däniken book about an Egyptian guide who, as a boy trapped in a tomb at Saqqara, says the knobs lit up the room; and a friend's suggestion that nubs had acoustic properties. Santo compares the different nubs at Ollantaytambo and the Nuragic wells of Sardinia, suggests tooling shaped them, and weighs the idea that nubs encode information like the Inca quipu. The part ends with the host recalling Peru, India in 2018, and photos where she only later noticed nubs, and Santo on Hampi's temples, where they hide in plain sight. Ringing Rocks, a Solstice Petroglyph & Smithsonian Giants with Aaron Hynes — Part 5 of 5 | Classics Rotation

Aaron Hynes explains how he found little-known Peruvian sites with Google Maps and Ministry of Culture records, and he and the host make the case for cheap, fearless travel. The closing part covers his finds at Montana's Ringing Rocks, an Idaho star petroglyph he says marks the solstice sunrise and sunset, and their questions about the Smithsonian and giant skeletons. The host suggests Aaron team up with Raul of Pillars of the Past, whom she says she met on a Cosmic Summit panel. She mentions a month in India in 2018 and a possible return in December, and says working as a flight attendant lets her fly standby for about $150 in taxes. They argue that motivation, Google Translate, phone apps, and ATMs make travel easier than people think, and she recalls backpacking Europe alone at 23 and joining group tours abroad. Aaron describes a planned three-day Montana megalith tour from Boise or Helena; that tour, his Peru tour pitch, and the trip plans and dates mentioned are part of the original recording, not a current offer. At Ringing Rocks he says he found what look like drill marks and machine cuts. At Celebration Park near Boise he describes a star petroglyph with one line pointing due north; he says he returned two years later in June and saw the sun rise and set where the other lines point, compares it to the Inca intihuatana, and says, as his own opinion, that nomadic tribes had little reason to track solstices. He says he submitted it to Idaho's historical society. The host raises the Sage Wall, mounds, and Cahokia, and they discuss a Smithsonian audit and a Navajo woman's story of giant remains she says the Smithsonian took in the 1950s. The host's quick note to Aaron about wrapping up is part of the original recording, before he says where to find him. This is an archival replay, not current news. Cusco Motorcycles, Hidden Huacas & a Zona X Encounter with Aaron Hynes — Part 4 of 5 | Classics Rotation

Aaron Hynes tells how he bought a $1,100 motorcycle in Cusco to explore the Andes, then explains how he builds custom Peru tours and why the standard tourist ticket skips some of the best sites. The host trades favorite spots with him, from Ollantaytambo to the carved huacas near Sacsayhuamán, and describes a small winged figure she says she met in a Zona X cave. Aaron describes Cusco streets lined with identical shops, weaving through traffic, and small bribes he jokingly calls a more affordable corruption. On his Megalithic Mystery tours, he says his first Peru trip was a Brien Foerster group tour he still recommends, but delays caused by others led him to offer custom itineraries; that tour pitch and the prices he and the host quote, such as about $50 for the tourist ticket, are part of the original recording. The host recalls cheap day tours, a honeymoon on local buses, and carved boulders behind the Temple of the Moon; they wonder who farms terraces at 12,000 feet, and she jokes about a dragon city. Aaron describes megalithic temple stones in the garden of a house he rented in Larapa. The host names Ollantaytambo and Pisac as favorites and describes a cave off the road to Sacsayhuamán with a vitrified, glass-like surface. Aaron mentions Ministry of Culture tunnel excavations under Sacsayhuamán, as of the recording. The host says a two-to-three-foot black, bat-winged being in Zona X told her "Get out" in her head, and gives a shout-out to Matt of Weird Old World. They finish on remote work, Belize, Aaron's Spanish, his YouTube channel, and his Breaking Ancient News show, as it stood at the time. This is an archival replay, not current news.
