    The Life and Leadership of King David (Part 6)

    In this episode of The Leader’s Notebook (Ep. 333), I take a deeper look at the complicated life of David through Psalm 51 and the story of his fall, repentance, and family brokenness. David was a king, warrior, poet, and man of extraordinary accomplishment, yet at the height of his success he committed adultery, conspiracy, and murder. When the prophet Nathan confronted him with the truth, David did not defend himself or shift the blame. He simply confessed, “I have sinned.” Psalm 51 gives us one of Scripture’s clearest pictures of genuine repentance: “Create in me a clean heart, O God,” and “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation.” David’s story reminds us that our failures do not give us permission to sin, but his pattern of repentance gives us a pattern for returning to God. From the judgment surrounding Bathsheba and Uriah to the rebellion of Absalom and the grief of a broken family, we see both the consequences of sin and the astonishing grace of God. The baby of judgment gave way to Solomon, the child of peace.     In this episode of The Leader’s Notebook (Ep. 332), I continue our journey through the life of David in 2 Samuel 7–9, looking at a remarkable moment when a powerful king chooses mercy over judgment. David has become a military and political force in Israel, yet when he discovers Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s crippled son and Saul’s grandson, he remembers the covenant he made with Jonathan. Instead of punishment, Mephibosheth is lifted from his brokenness, brought into the king’s house, and given a place at the king’s table. That story gives us a beautiful picture of the grace we have received through Jesus Christ. Like Mephibosheth, we come before God with nothing of our own to offer. But God remembers His covenant, and when He looks upon us, He sees His Son. Through the blood of Jesus Christ, the judgment seat becomes a mercy seat, and those who were once hopeless are welcomed as sons and daughters to feast at the King’s table.     The Life and Leadership of King David (Part 4)

    In this episode of The Leader’s Notebook (Ep. 331), I continue looking at the life of David in 2 Samuel 5–6 and one of the most difficult spiritual disciplines we will ever learn: waiting on God. David had been promised the throne years before he actually became king, yet he refused to force God’s promise through his own strength or timing. He waited for God to fulfill what He had spoken, and when God gave him direction, David learned to listen, obey, and move forward in faith. We also see David establish Jerusalem, defeat the Philistines, and bring the Ark of the Covenant into the city. His first attempt reveals an important lesson: we can have the right goal and still try to accomplish it the wrong way. David learns that we do not prop God up—God props us up. And when the Ark finally enters Jerusalem, David worships with unrestrained joy and generosity.     In this episode of The Leader’s Notebook (Ep. 330), I take a closer look at one of the lesser-known and most complicated seasons in the life of David. From 2 Samuel 2 through the events surrounding the death of Saul, Jonathan, Abner, and Ish-bosheth, we see a man moving from shepherd, to warrior, to exile, to king. David’s journey reminds us that God’s destiny is often reached through a long and difficult process, not by shortcuts. Again and again, David chooses to honor God, respect what God has established, and remain faithful even when those around him do not. There is a powerful lesson here for anyone waiting on God: when you cannot yet do anything to advance your ultimate calling, do what God has placed in front of you and do it with excellence. Encourage yourself in the Lord, follow the plan, take the next step, remain true to your values, and let God make the way forward. “Wait, I say, on the Lord” is not passive resignation—it is faith that trusts God’s timing.     In this episode of The Leader’s Notebook (Ep. 329), I continue the story of David through one of the darkest and most difficult seasons of his life. From his covenant friendship with Jonathan and his desperate escape to Gath, to the humiliation of pretending to be insane, David finds himself with no home, no resources, and seemingly no future. Yet even in the lowest moments, the hand of God is still upon him. Psalm 34 becomes David’s testimony of that deliverance: “This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him.” As David gathers a band of unlikely men at the cave of Adullam, God begins rebuilding what appeared to be completely broken. Revelation is not merely a sequence of end-times events to be organized into a timeline. It is a letter to the Church—a sweeping, symbolic vision that pulls back the curtain and reveals Jesus Christ as Lord over history, eternity, and every power that rises against Him. We will explore the seals, trumpets, visions, beasts, and judgments of Revelation without losing sight of its central message: above every tyrant, conflict, and spirit of Antichrist stands the Lamb upon Mount Zion. Jesus is both the sacrificed Lamb and the conquering Lion, and all the redeemed stand with Him in victory. Revelation reminds us that the forces of darkness are real, but they are temporary.     In this episode of The Leader’s Notebook, I invite you to approach the Book of Revelation not as a complicated timeline to be decoded, but as a powerful revelation of Jesus Christ. Written by the Apostle John during his exile on Patmos, Revelation is both a letter to the Church and a sweeping spiritual vision filled with images, sounds, symbols, and promises. Rather than reading it like a Western textbook, we should experience it more like a great Hebrew opera—allowing its message to reveal the glory, authority, and ultimate victory of Christ.
