Bringing Yiddish Back: Daniella Rabbani on New Album "Klezmerette" Ep. 886

What happens when a Jewish artist uses music to preserve her heritage, confront antisemitism, and pass Jewish joy on to the next generation? On this episode of the Israel Daily News Podcast, host Shanna Fuld sits down with Daniella Rabbani, a singer, actress, and filmmaker whose work spans Yiddish theater, television, film, and Jewish music. Daniella’s new album, Klezmerette, brings classic Yiddish songs to life through dance tunes, cabaret, folk ballads, and tango. Produced by Grammy winner Joanie Leeds and klezmer clarinetist Michael Winograd, the album reflects Daniella’s two-decade journey with Yiddish music and her determination to keep the language and culture alive. The granddaughter of Holocaust survivors, Daniella shares how her family’s history shaped her connection to Yiddish, while her Persian Jewish heritage taught her that Jewish identity can encompass many languages, traditions, and backgrounds. Together, Shanna and Daniella discuss how Jewish music carried people through some of history’s darkest moments, the meaning of “We Will Dance Again” after October 7, and the importance of preserving stories for future generations. Daniella also reflects on rising antisemitism, speaking out as a Jewish artist, and her personal experience of grief and family ties to Israel. Hear Daniella sing excerpts from classic Yiddish songs, explain the stories behind the music, and share why her latest project is about more than preserving the past: it is about inheriting joy. “He Was Supposed to Be Home in Hours": Eilat Widow Remembers Her Husband Itamar, 3 Years After October 7th; Israel Daily News; Mon. Oct 5, 2026

“He was supposed to come back home just a few hours later.” For this special Israel Daily News October 7 series, Shanna Fuld sits down with Alma Levin-Friedman, a 34-year-old mother of two and PhD student from Eilat whose husband, Major Reservist Itamar Levin-Friedman, was killed fighting in Gaza. Itamar was a teacher, a reservist, a sniper commander and a member of Lotar Eilat, an IDF counterterrorism unit. On October 7, 2023, he was among the first forces to respond in southern Israel. He spent months serving in the south before repeatedly entering Gaza. His final mission was his seventh deployment into Gaza. On November 11, 2024, Itamar was killed by a Hamas sniper. It was the final day of his mission. He was expected to return home to his wife and two young children just hours later. In this deeply personal conversation, Alma shares what it was like to wake Itamar up on October 7, watch him leave their home in his uniform, and hear him say: “This is not something small. We are at war.” She talks about raising their children without their father, preserving his memory, rebuilding a sense of safety for her family, and carrying on the values he believed in. The interview also features the powerful words Itamar wrote for his students about October 7 and the responsibility of reservists who leave behind their families, jobs and ordinary lives to defend Israel. His message was ultimately about more than military service. It was a call for Israeli society to remain united, respectful and compassionate—and to be worthy of the sacrifices made by those who serve. Alma also discusses the community of Israeli widows and orphans created by the war, her ongoing PhD studies in sociology, and the challenges of rebuilding a life while the war itself continues. As Israel approaches another election, Alma explains what she believes Itamar would have wanted for the country: a society where people with different political views can stand together, serve together and feel that they all have a place. This is the story of one family, but also a conversation about loss, resilience, motherhood, military service, Israeli society and what it means to keep living after October 7. Israelis Stop Hijacking and Land Plane in Saudi Arabia& Israel Daily News; Thu. Oct 1, 2026

Israeli passengers are being hailed as heroes after stopping an attempted plane hijacking on a flydubai flight carrying 174 passengers from Dubai to Tel Aviv. According to the report, the co-pilot allegedly attacked and repeatedly stabbed the captain before attempting to take control of the aircraft. The plane then plunged more than 4,000 meters — roughly 13,000 feet — in about one minute. Israeli passengers and off-duty pilots rushed into the cockpit and restrained the attacker. One passenger, Yaniv Hayun, helped pull the aircraft's nose up, while dentist Dr. Shota Musayev treated the wounded captain throughout the emergency. The plane was diverted and landed safely in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, before the passengers were eventually flown back to Israel. Four passengers are being recommended for Israel's Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism. The episode also covers President Trump's rejection of Iran's proposed broader deal involving the Strait of Hormuz, the reported possibility of renewed U.S. strikes on Iran, the death of a Hamas terrorist connected to the kidnapping of Noa Argamani and Avinatan Or on October 7, and a new report alleging that a Houthi weapons cell used Anthropic's Claude AI to develop missile guidance software. Aoun and Macron Meet in Paris Over Lebanon's Future as Israel Confirms Hamas Rafah Commander Killed; Election Petition War Escalates; Thu. Sep 17, 2026

Lebanon’s future is at the center of a major diplomatic push as President Joseph Aoun meets French President Emmanuel Macron and Jordan’s King Abdullah II in Paris. The talks come as Israel and Lebanon explore a possible security framework, including what could eventually replace UNIFIL in southern Lebanon. In this episode of the Israel Daily News Podcast, Shana Fuld breaks down the history behind the Israel-Lebanon conflict and explains why UNIFIL has remained in southern Lebanon for nearly 50 years. The discussion covers the origins of UNIFIL, the PLO’s presence in southern Lebanon, Israel’s 1978 and 1982 operations, Hezbollah’s emergence, and the aftermath of the Second Lebanon War. Shana also explains the current proposal being discussed: Israeli forces could withdraw as the Lebanese military moves into southern Lebanon and Hezbollah is disarmed. But Israel says the Lebanese army must prove it can actually remove Hezbollah from the area before an Israeli withdrawal can take place. The episode also covers: 🇱🇧 Joseph Aoun’s meeting with Macron and King Abdullah II🇮🇱 Israel-Lebanon security talks🇺🇳 The future of UNIFILHezbollah’s refusal to disarmThe history of the 1948 Arab-Israeli WarIsrael’s peace treaties with Egypt and JordanThe evolving situation on Israel’s Syrian and Lebanese borders🇵🇸 The IDF confirmation of the death of Hamas Rafah Brigade commander Nael Abu ObeidIsrael’s upcoming October 27 electionPolitical disqualification petitions before the electionAn IDF inquiry into a controversial Gaza documentary🇲🇦 Israel and Morocco upgrading diplomatic relations to full embassiesThe Abraham Accords and expanding regional tiesRosh Hashanah and the upcoming Yom Kippur holiday Support independent journalism from Israel:Israel Daily News website: https://israeldailynews.orgYouTube: https://youtube.com/@israeldailynewsIsrael Daily News Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/shannafuldSupport our Wartime News Coverage: https://israeldailynews.org/donation-box/Links to all things IDN: https://linktr.ee/israeldailynews Timestamps 00:00 Aoun Meets Macron Over Lebanon’s Future01:00 How UNIFIL Began in Southern Lebanon02:00 Israel’s 1978 Operation & UNIFIL03:00 Israel’s 1982 Lebanon War04:00 Why UNIFIL Has Remained for Nearly 50 Years05:00 Israel-Lebanon Talks in Washington06:00 Hezbollah Must Disarm Before Israeli Withdrawal07:00 The 1948 Arab-Israeli War Begins08:00 The Nakba & Israel’s Independence09:00 Israel’s Peace Treaties With Egypt & Jordan10:00 Syria, Lebanon & Israel’s Other Borders11:00 Hamas Rafah Commander Killed12:00 Election Disqualification Battles Begin13:00 High Court & Political Party Bans14:00 IDF Orders Inquiry Into Gaza Documentary15:00 Support Israel Daily News16:00 Military Investigation & Classified Information17:00 Israel & Morocco Upgrade Diplomatic Ties18:00 Abraham Accords Anniversary19:00 Yom Kippur Programming Announcement20:00 Rosh Hashanah, Pomegranates & Israeli Tradition21:00 Israeli Artisans & Holiday Gifts22:00 Tel Aviv Weather & Daily Wrap-Up23:00 Shabbat Shalom & Gmar Chatima Tova #Israel #IsraelDailyNews #IsraelLebanon #Lebanon #Hezbollah #UNIFIL #IDF #Gaza #Hamas #IsraelNews #MiddleEast #JosephAoun #EmmanuelMacron #AbrahamAccords #IsraelPolitics #RoshHashanah #YomKippur #ShannaFuld  Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Iran's Nuclear Chief Skips Vienna as Netanyahu's Likud Moves to Ban Arab Parties; Trump Shrugs Off China-Iran Intel Report; Mon. Sep 14, 2026

Iranian pressure, the Strait of Hormuz, Houthi attacks, Israel's political tensions, Fauda's depiction of October 7, and a powerful Rosh Hashanah story from a freed hostage. On today's episode of the Israel Daily News Podcast, Shanna Fuld brings you the latest developments across Israel and the Middle East. Iran is accusing the United States and Austria of blocking its nuclear delegation from attending the International Atomic Energy Agency conference in Vienna, as the diplomatic relationship between Washington and Tehran remains deeply strained. We also look at reports of Chinese intelligence sharing with Iran ahead of an Iranian missile strike on a U.S. base in Jordan, as President Trump prepares to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping at the White House. In Gaza, President Trump says Hamas is willing to give up its weapons, while Israel continues to insist that Hamas must disarm. The ceasefire remains fragile, with Israel and Hamas offering competing accounts of the situation on the ground. Meanwhile, Iran-backed Houthi forces continue attacking Saudi Arabia. With the Houthis controlling key territory along Yemen's Red Sea coast and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz dramatically reduced, the security of regional energy and shipping routes remains a major concern. We also examine the Israeli political debate over whether Arab-majority parties Ra'am and the Joint List should be barred from running in the upcoming October 27 election, including the legal history surrounding previous attempts to disqualify political parties. Then, a major cultural story: the fifth season of Fauda has drawn international attention for its dramatization of the October 7 massacre. The episodes have sparked strong reactions from viewers around the world, while the series' Israeli cast and production team have personal connections to the war. And we end with a powerful Rosh Hashanah story. Israel has reached its first Rosh Hashanah since October 7, 2023 without a hostage remaining in Gaza. Freed hostage Matan Angrest, who spent 738 days in Hamas captivity, returned home from a five-month trip through South America so he could celebrate the holiday with his family. His story is a reminder of what freedom means after years of captivity—and why being together with family during the holidays can carry a significance that is difficult to put into words.
