How to Stop Worrying About Your Adult Children: Letting Go of Control and Trusting Their Journey

If you're a parent, you probably know this feeling. No matter how old our children are, we never stop wanting to protect them. We want to guide them, encourage them, and help them avoid some of the heartache we experienced ourselves. I've been thinking about that a lot lately. As my own boys have grown into adulthood, I've realized that one of the greatest invitations of this stage of parenting isn't learning how to love them more. It's learning how to trust their journey while continuing to love them deeply. For a long time, I believed that if one of my children was struggling, it was my job to figure out how to make it better. I thought worrying meant I was being a good mom. I thought helping meant offering advice, solving problems, and trying to keep them from making mistakes or being uncomfortable. But my own healing has gently shown me something different. What if our adult children aren't ours to fix, change or even to tell them what to do? What if they're here to have their own unique human experience, learning through both their joys and their challenges on their soul journey? What if loving them doesn't mean keeping them from discomfort, but trusting that even the difficult parts of their journey have purpose too. That doesn't mean we stop caring. It doesn't mean we stop loving or even supporting in a healthy way. It simply means we begin releasing the belief that their happiness determines our own. This conversation isn't about becoming a perfect parent. I certainly haven't been one. It's about exploring another way of seeing. One that has brought so much more peace into my own heart. If you've been lying awake worrying about your adult children, wishing you could make different choices for them, or wondering how to love them without losing yourself, I hope you'll find something in this conversation that may shift how you are seeing the situation and the people in your life- and in the end you find a little peace.  In This Episode Why worrying can quietly become another form of trying to controlSeeing your adult children through love instead of fearHow our own discomfort often fuels our desire to fix someone else's lifeWhy acceptance becomes a path to peaceTrusting your adult children's soul journey while continuing to love them deeply with healthy detachmentReleasing the belief that someone else's happiness determines your ownReturning your attention to your own healing and spiritual awakeningA Few Questions to Sit With Where am I carrying responsibility that isn't mine? What fears come up when I imagine letting go of control? Can I love someone deeply without trying to change them? What might become possible if I trusted both my journey and theirs?Continue Your Soul Recovery Journey 🎁 Download your FREE Recover Your Soul™ 9-Step Workbook Begin your Recover Your Soul journey by exploring the beliefs, patterns, and stories that may no longer serve you, reconnecting with your Higher Power, and remembering your wholeness. Recover Your Soul Practices: Listening from the Heart

What if one of the greatest gifts you could offer another person was simply to listen? In this Recover Your Soul Practice, Rev Rachel explores how learning to listen with presence and compassion can transform your relationships, deepen your connection with yourself, and free you from the exhausting belief that you're responsible for fixing everyone else's problems. As recovering people pleasers and codependents, many of us have learned to interrupt, advise, reassure, or solve before we've truly heard someone. But healing often begins when we create a safe space for another person—and ourselves—to simply be witnessed. In this episode you'll discover: 🧡 What it means to truly hold space 🧡 Why listening is one of the most powerful spiritual practices 🧡 How to release the need to fix, rescue, or control 🧡 The connection between listening and self-compassion 🧡 How quieting your mind helps you hear your intuition and Higher Self Whether you're navigating relationships, supporting someone you love, or simply learning to be more present with yourself, this practice offers a gentle invitation to slow down, open your heart, and discover the healing power of deep listening. To learn more about the Recover Your Soul™ Process, the Self-Study Collective, spiritual coaching, retreats, and free resources, visit RecoverYourSoul.net. Why Is It So Hard to Receive Love? Healing Self-Worth and Learning You're Enough

Have you ever noticed that it's easier to give love than to receive it? As recovering people pleasers and codependents, many of us learned to care for everyone else first. We became experts at giving our time, our energy, our love, and our attention, but when it comes to receiving those same gifts, we often hesitate. Why? In this episode, I share a very personal story about buying a new car and how something that seemed so ordinary uncovered a much deeper invitation to healing. What surfaced wasn't really about the car at all. It was about an old belief that had quietly followed me through much of my life—that other people deserved more than I did. As I became curious about those feelings, I realized that learning to receive has been one of the greatest spiritual lessons of my own Soul Recovery journey. Healing isn't about getting more. It's about releasing the beliefs, patterns, and stories that tell us we aren't enough. When we begin to receive the same love, compassion, and kindness that we so freely offer everyone else, we open ourselves to a life rooted in abundance instead of lack, trust instead of fear, and wholeness instead of striving. If you've ever struggled to believe you deserve love, support, joy, or simply something beautiful for yourself, I hope this conversation reminds you that you have never needed to earn your worth. You already are enough. A New Weekly Rhythm Beginning July 2026, you'll receive a new episode every Monday between the 2 Recover Your Soul Podcasts. One week you'll hear a full Recover Your Soul Podcast episode, and the next week you'll receive a Recover Your Soul Bonus Podcast, where I share spiritual tools, practices, guided meditations, and inspiring interviews to support you on your healing journey. Thank you for being part of this beautiful community. Whether you're just beginning your healing journey or you've been walking this path with me for years, I'm honored that we're recovering our souls together. A Second Chance at Life & Choosing Yourself with Ruby- Her Journey Through Sobriety, Codependency Recovery, and a Liver Transplant

What happens when years of inner healing prepare you for the biggest decision of your life? In this heartfelt conversation, Rev Rachel welcomes longtime Recover Your Soul community member Ruby, whose journey beautifully reflects the power of choosing yourself, trusting the healing process, and embracing a second chance at life. After years of living with the chaos of addiction, navigating codependency, and slowly losing herself while caring for others, Ruby found the courage to begin her own recovery journey. Through sobriety, the Recover Your Soul teachings, support groups, and deep inner work, she gradually built a new foundation rooted in self-worth, surrender, and hope. Then life presented her with an unexpected challenge. Diagnosed with Stage 4 liver cirrhosis, Ruby faced a life-threatening illness that ultimately led to a liver transplant. But as remarkable as her physical recovery is, this conversation is about something even deeper—the moment she realized she wanted to live, chose herself, and stepped into an entirely new chapter of her life. Together, Rev Rachel and Ruby explore: ✨ Living with and loving someone struggling with addiction ✨ Recovery from codependency and learning to release control ✨ Choosing sobriety and discovering hope again ✨ Facing serious illness with courage and faith ✨ The healing power of community and spiritual support ✨ Letting go of old patterns and embracing a new beginning ✨ Why choosing yourself is one of the greatest acts of love Ruby's story is a beautiful reminder that healing rarely happens all at once. It unfolds one choice, one moment of courage, and one act of self-compassion at a time. If you've ever wondered whether it's too late to change your life, this conversation offers hope that it never is. If you're ready to explore your own healing and awakening journey, I invite you to learn more about the Recover Your Soul™ Process of Healing and Awakening, the Self-Study Collective, and one-on-one spiritual coaching at RecoverYourSoul.net. Together we can do the work that will Recover Your Soul.

Living in Alignment: How to Trust Yourself When Change Feels Uncomfortable

Living in Alignment: How to Trust Yourself When Change Feels Uncomfortable Living in alignment isn't about having all the answers. It's about learning to trust the quiet inner knowing that calls you toward a new way of being, even when change feels uncomfortable. In this episode, I share a personal example of what it means to live Step 7 of the Recover Your Soul process: aligning your thoughts, words, and actions with the person you are becoming instead of the fears, expectations, and old patterns you've carried for so long. As we heal, there comes a time when we realize that the old ways of doing things no longer fit who we are becoming. Making a different choice can bring up fear, uncertainty, and even the worry of disappointing others. But healing invites us to trust ourselves, listen to our inner guidance, and take the next right step—even when it feels uncomfortable. I also share an exciting new chapter for the Recover Your Soul podcasts. Beginning now, you'll receive a new Recover Your Soul episode every Monday, alternating between the main Recover Your Soul Podcast and the Recover Your Soul Bonus Podcast. This new rhythm will allow me to be even more present with our community through coaching, the 9-Step Self Study Collective, retreats, and the many ways we continue to walk this healing journey together. The next Main Recover Your Soul Podcast will be released on July 20. In the meantime, I hope you'll lean on the incredible library we've created together. Between the two podcasts, there are nearly 600 episodes covering everything from codependency, boundaries, anxiety, depression, adult children, addiction, forgiveness, people pleasing, grief, and spiritual awakening. Use the search bar on your favorite podcast app or at recoveryoursoul.net and let the library meet you exactly where you are. My hope is that you'll always find an episode that reminds you that you're not alone. If you'd like to continue the journey between Main Podcast episodes, the Recover Your Soul Bonus Podcast is released every other Monday and includes deeper conversations, guided meditations, spiritual book studies, reflections on Al-Anon through the lens of the Recover Your Soul process, inspiring interviews, and our new Recover Your Soul Practices series—grounded spiritual tools and practices for everyday life. You can listen to the Bonus Podcast every other Monday:  ✨ On Apple Podcasts with a subscription for $4.99/month ✨ On Patreon as a Free Member, where new episodes are available for two weeks, or as a supporting member at $5, $15, or $25/month, with full access to the complete Bonus Podcast library and additional community offerings. Thank you for being part of this community. Whether you've been listening since 2020 or you've just found the podcast, I am so grateful you're here. Thank you for trusting me to walk beside you. It is one of the greatest honors of my life to share this journey with you as we continue remembering our wholeness, choosing love over fear, and creating lives of greater peace, freedom, and joy.
