229: How to Feel Your Feelings Instead of Shopping Them Away

Have you ever found yourself shopping because you're stressed, anxious, lonely, bored, or overwhelmed? You're not necessarily shopping because you need something. You may be shopping because you're trying to change the way you feel. And while buying something might give you a temporary hit of relief, it doesn't make the emotion go away. Eventually, that feeling comes back—often accompanied by guilt, shame, clutter, financial stress, or regret. And that can send you right back into the emotional shopping cycle. In this episode, I'm sharing a coaching call from inside my Overcoming Overspending community where we dive into why we shop our feelings away—and, more importantly, how to actually feel an uncomfortable emotion without needing to escape it. We cover: Why shopping can become a form of emotional avoidance The hidden emotional "promise" behind the things you buy Why consumer culture teaches us that buying something will make us feel better The emotional shopping avoidance loop and why shopping can actually make the emotion you're avoiding worse The difference between running from your emotions like a sheep and facing them like a buffalo The 3 A's of emotional resilience: Awareness, Allowance, and Autonomy A practical 4-step process for actually feeling your feelings instead of shopping them away Why building your emotional capacity is one of the most powerful ways to change your spending The goal isn't to never feel bored, lonely, anxious, ashamed, or overwhelmed. It's to become someone who can say: I can feel this. I can handle this. And I don't need to buy something to make it go away.   Work with Paige: Watch my free on-demand masterclass: The 3-shifts to go from emotional shopper to financially empowered Join the waitlist for the Overcoming Overspending Book - Out in early 2027 Join Overcoming Overspending HERE   Connect with Paige Online: Her Website IG: @overcoming_overspending TikTok: @overcoming_overspending Subscribe to Paige's YouTube Channel

228: The One Question that Eliminates Money Worry for Good with Jesse Mecham, Founder of YNAB

What if becoming "good with money" had less to do with spending less—and everything to do with learning how to spend well? In this episode, I'm joined by Jesse Mecham, founder of the budgeting software YNAB and author of the new book Never Worry About Money Again. Jesse has helped millions of people change their relationship with money, and his approach challenges much of what traditional personal finance has taught us. The central idea is simple but powerful: Money is meant to be spent. Every money decision is ultimately a spending decision. Saving is spending later. Investing is spending much later. Giving money away means choosing what mission or person will spend it next. So instead of asking whether spending is good or bad, Jesse encourages us to ask one three-word question: What's it for? That question helps you move away from guilt, deprivation, and financial confusion—and toward clarity, confidence, and intentional spending. In this conversation, we discuss: Why being good with money is a learnable skill What Jesse means when he says "your money is you" Why earning more does not automatically eliminate money worry How restrictive budgeting can make you feel trapped rather than empowered Why there is rarely such a thing as a truly "surprise" expense How to stop living paycheck to paycheck by getting one month ahead Why your spending should reflect your values, personality, and current season of life The difference between spending based on social expectations and spending authentically Why more money only amplifies the spending habits you already have How to spend money you actually have instead of relying on future income If you earn good money but still experience the constant low-grade hum of financial stress, this episode will help you rethink what's actually causing it. You may not need more money. You may need to decide what the money you already have is for. Learn more about Jesse's new book here. Start your free 34-day trial with YNAB here.

227: How to Become A Future Rich Person with Haley Sacks, aka Mrs. Dow Jones

What does it actually take to build wealth as a woman today? In this episode, I'm joined by Haley Sacks (aka Mrs. Dow Jones) for a powerful conversation about money mindset, overspending, investing, and the identity shifts required to become a "future rich person." Building wealth isn't just about making more money. It's about changing the way you think about money, spending, and yourself. Inside this episode, we talk about: Why so many women were conditioned to believe it's "cute" to be bad with money The hidden mindset patterns keeping women stuck in overspending cycles Why building wealth starts with learning how to stop spending everything you make The difference between impulsive spending vs. values-based spending How to create "action money" (the gap between inflow and outflow) The role of automations, investing, and negotiation in building long-term wealth Why investing is actually less risky than not investing at all And how to become someone who consistently follows through with money Haley also shares her powerful IBIZA framework for shifting your money mindset and explains why identity—not information—is the real key to financial transformation. Haley's book Future Rich Person is out TODAY (Tuesday, May 12th). Grab your copy here! 226: If you're looking for a sign, this is it...

Join Overcoming Overspending HERE Use the code OOPOD to get 2 free months and a copy of the program workbook mailed direcly to you (good through EOD Monday, May 4th).   If you've been waiting for a sign to finally get your money together… This is it. In this episode, I'm sharing a simple but powerful shift that might completely change the way you think about money—and why you've been feeling stuck with it. Because here's the truth: Most people think the point of money is to save it. To hold onto it. To not lose it. But what if that belief is actually keeping you stuck? In this episode, I break down a concept that will challenge everything you've been taught: The point of money is to spend it. Not recklessly. Not impulsively. But intentionally. We're diving into: Why money exists (and how misunderstanding this creates overspending or hoarding) The difference between intentional vs. impulsive spending How to balance spending for your present life vs. your future The 3 key factors that determine whether your spending is helping or hurting you: → When you spend → How you spend → What you spend on Why spending is the most important financial skill you can master This episode will help you move out of guilt, shame, and confusion… and into clarity, control, and confidence with your money. But here's the part most people miss: Knowing what to do is not the same as actually doing it. If you've been listening to the podcast, taking it all in, and still feeling stuck… still telling yourself "I'll start next month"… still wondering where your money is going— That's exactly where deeper support makes the difference. Inside Overcoming Overspending, you don't just learn this work—you apply it. You get: Coaching on your real-life spending decisions Accountability to actually follow through A clear process to move from impulsive → intentional And a community of women doing this work alongside you So if you've been thinking about joining… If you've been waiting for the "right time"… This is your sign.     Connect with Paige Online: Her Website IG: @overcoming_overspending TikTok: @overcoming_overspending Subscribe to Paige's YouTube Channel

225: The Identity Shift that Empowers you to Do Hard Things with Julie Mann, Rewire & Rise Coach

What if the reason you're stuck with your money… isn't discipline—but your relationship with discomfort? In this episode, I'm joined by Julie Mann, The Rewire and Rise Coach, to talk about one of the most important (and overlooked) skills you can build: Your ability to do hard things. Because here's the truth: Your brain is wired to seek pleasure, avoid pain, and conserve energy. Which means… by default, you will avoid discomfort. But the life you want? It lives on the other side of that discomfort. In this conversation, we break down: Why avoiding discomfort is keeping you stuck in overspending patterns The difference between destructive discomfort vs. productive discomfort How your identity shapes whether you follow through (or don't) Why doing hard things in one area transforms every area of your life The neuroscience behind building new habits and rewiring your brain How to start becoming someone who actually keeps promises to herself We also talk about something most women completely overlook: ✨ The power of celebration in rewiring your brain ✨ Why you're likely ignoring evidence that you can do hard things ✨ And how to start building an "I can do hard things" identity—starting today Because it's not that you can't do hard things. It's that your brain has learned to avoid them. And once you understand how to work with your brain instead of against it, everything starts to change.   Resources mentioned in this episode: Get Julie's FREE "I can do hard things" identity module here. 224: The Power of Your Perspective

What if the biggest thing keeping you stuck with money… isn't your spending—but your perspective? In this episode, I'm sharing a powerful coaching call from inside the Overcoming Overspending community all about how your mindset shapes your financial reality—and why changing the way you think can completely change the results you create. Because here's the truth: Your circumstances don't determine your outcomes. Your perspective on them does. Inside this episode, we dive into: Why your mindset is either building you up or breaking you down How negative self-talk keeps you stuck in a cycle of shame, scarcity, and inaction The neuroscience behind why harsh inner dialogue triggers fight-or-flight (and blocks progress) Simple, practical reframes to shift out of "I'm behind" or "I'm broke" thinking How to move from negative → neutral → empowering thoughts (without toxic positivity) You'll also learn two of my favorite tools to transform your relationship with money: ✨ Your Inner Money Mean Girl – how to separate yourself from the critical voice in your head ✨ Your Money Alter Ego – how to step into a more confident, empowered version of yourself Because the goal isn't to never have negative thoughts… It's to stop believing everything your brain tells you. When you shift your perspective, you shift your emotions. When you shift your emotions, you change your actions. And that's how you finally start creating different results with your money. If you've been feeling stuck, discouraged, or caught in the same patterns with your finances—this episode will help you see things differently… and start moving forward.

223: What to do when you just don't care about your money anymore

If you've ever found yourself thinking… "I just don't care anymore." About your money. About your spending. About fixing it. This episode is for you. Because here's the truth: It's not that you don't care. Something deeper is going on. In this episode, we're unpacking what's really happening when you hit that "I don't care" phase—and how to get yourself out of it. After coaching thousands of women through overspending, I've seen this pattern over and over again: You get tired. You get overwhelmed. Things don't go as planned. And eventually… you shut down. But that shutdown? It's not apathy. It's emotional exhaustion. Inside this episode, you'll learn: Why "I don't care" is usually not the truth What's actually driving your "F it" spending moments How to handle those daily decision moments when you want to give up What to do when life knocks you off track and you feel like starting over isn't worth it How to rebuild hope and momentum (even when you feel burnt out) If you've been stuck in a cycle of overspending, avoidance, or feeling disconnected from your money this episode will help you come back to yourself—and start moving forward again.

222: From Avoidance to Action: How to stop hiding and face your money problems head-on

If you feel anxious every time you open your banking app… If you avoid checking your credit card statement… If you secretly wonder how did my spending get this out of control? This episode is for you. After coaching thousands of women on their overspending habits, one pattern shows up again and again: financial avoidance. When you avoid your money, you lose clarity—and when you lose clarity, overspending becomes almost inevitable. In this episode, we're talking about: Why financial avoidance is one of the biggest drivers of overspending The surprising psychology behind why we hide from our money How shame and emotional discomfort keep you stuck in the cycle The powerful mindset shift that helps you stop avoiding your finances 3 simple steps to start facing your money without overwhelm You'll also learn why avoiding your finances actually makes your money stress worse, and how small daily habits can rebuild clarity and confidence with your money. If you've ever felt ashamed of your spending, overwhelmed by your finances, or afraid to look at your bank account—this episode will help you finally break that cycle. Because the truth is: What you avoid controls you. But what you face frees you.
