Can the Dead Visit Us After They Die? JJ's story of encountering spirits began after the death of her mother. Having explored spirituality with her mother during her illness, JJ was already beginning to ask profound questions about life, death, and what might happen when we leave this world. Then, about a year after her mother passed away, something extraordinary began happening. JJ would wake in the middle of the night to find someone standing at the foot of her bed. At first, the experiences terrified her. But over time, fear gave way to curiosity, and she began speaking aloud to the figures who appeared. One encounter was particularly unforgettable: an older woman with short gray hair, wearing a turtleneck and holding a fluffy white cat. The woman gave JJ her name: Betty Greer. AND GUESS WHAT HAPPENED??? The timing was extraordinary. JJ was finishing her young adult fantasy novel, "The Mermaid of Crater Lake", inspired by a trip to Crater Lake in Oregon. As she worked on uploading the book and preparing it for publication, the whale remained nearby throughout the weekend. JJ describes listening to the whale's voice as she worked, feeling deeply moved by its presence and overwhelmed with gratitude for the experience. The encounter felt like more than a beautiful moment in nature. It became a source of inspiration for her next book, The Whale Portals, which explores whales, their relationship with the Earth, and the imaginative possibility that they travel between water planets.
