EP. 088 - MOOSE HUNT, FILM AND GEAR PREP w/ Dalton Peterson (Northern Son Media)

Episode 088 — Moose Hunt, Film & Gear Prep The Northern BC hunt is getting close, and it’s time to figure out how the hell we’re actually going to pull this thing off. Devin and Curt are joined by Dalton Petersen of Northern Son Media, who’ll be behind the camera for this fall’s Northern BC adventure. The boys break down the plan for a remote moose hunt with the possibility of chasing late-season sheep — starting from a wall tent base camp, but staying ready to spike out when the hunt demands it. They get into the realities of preparing for remote northern country: cold weather, freezing water, river crossings, grizzlies, gear failures, long days and everything that can go sideways when you’re a long way from home. In this episode: Wall tent base camp vs. being ready to spike out Building a sleep system for cold Northern BC nights Water filtration and storage when temperatures drop below freezing Trucks, quads, walking-beam trailers, winches, chains and spare parts .300 PRCs, bullet choice and rifle setup for moose and mountain hunting Dalton’s approach to filming hunts from inside the experience Keeping the film raw and authentic while stepping up the production quality Lessons Dalton has learned filming goats, sheep and other tough backcountry hunts Finding the balance between an old-school moose camp and bringing enough comfort to actually enjoy two weeks in the bush Dalton also gives us a look at how he approaches hunt films — capturing the b******t, camp life, struggles and personalities along with the kill. The goal isn’t to manufacture a story. It’s to put the cameras in the middle of the hunt and let the story happen. This one is part gear talk, part hunt planning and part figuring shit out before three guys disappear into Northern BC for two weeks. Moose. Sheep. Cameras. Cold weather. Questionable decisions. Sounds like a Come Out Heavy hunt.

EP. 085 - LAST CHANCE MOOSE

EP. 085 — Last Chance Moose What started as a dream moose hunt deep in the Canadian wilderness quickly turned into one of the wildest survival stories we’ve ever heard. On this episode, the boys sit down with four hunters fresh off an absolute chaos-filled backcountry adventure that tested their grit, friendships, and ability to adapt when literally everything went wrong. From busted trailers before the trip even started, to forgotten fuel and food, to freezing portages through slush and ice — this hunt became a full-on battle against the wilderness. Add in dangerous rapids, gear failures, brutal weather, and multiple grizzly encounters that still haunt the crew, and you’ve got a story that feels more like a survival movie than a hunting trip. But somehow… through all the chaos, the boys managed to get it done and harvest a moose. In this episode we dive into: Near-disaster moments navigating rapids and icy crossingsIntense grizzly bear encounters that changed the tone of the trip instantlyThe brutal physical and mental grind of hauling gear and meat through freezing conditionsEquipment failures, hard lessons, and survival decisions made on the flyThe brotherhood forged through stress, suffering, and shared adventureWhy hunts like this become stories you’ll tell for the rest of your lifeThis one is raw, hilarious, intense, and packed full of the kind of real backcountry chaos that every hunter secretly craves and fears at the same time. Whether you’re into hunting, wilderness survival, or just hearing what happens when regular guys push themselves way beyond their comfort zone — this episode delivers. Huge thanks to the crew for coming on and sharing the full story behind the adventure. EP. 081 - MTN HUNTING EXPO PRE SHOW w/ KYLE STELTER

🎙️ Come Out Heavy Podcast – Episode 081 February feels like April and we don’t know whether to grab the snowshoes or the lawn chairs. We kick things off catching up on the unusually warm winter we’re having and how it’s messing with everything from training to getting outside. It sends us down a rabbit hole of hard labor stories from our younger years — the kind of work that sucked in the moment but built grit, perspective, and a deep appreciation for physical effort. The kind of “Type 2 fun” that only gets better with time. We also dig into something that’s been on our minds — authenticity in hunting and social media. The highlight reels, the grip-and-grins, the filtered mountain sunsets… and the importance of keeping it real. Because at the end of the day, it’s the shared suffering, the community, and the honest stories that actually matter. And speaking of community… the Hunt Expo is right around the corner, and we’re fired up about it. Events like these remind us why we love this lifestyle — the handshakes, the conversations, the gear talk, and the brotherhood that ties it all together. This week we’re joined by Kyle Stelter — the heart and driving force behind the Wild Sheep Society of BC. If you care about wild sheep, conservation, and the future of hunting in this province, this conversation matters. Kyle breaks down: The growth of their podcast (264+ episodes and counting) How conservation dollars are actually making an impact Why events like the Northern Fundraiser are critical The balance between growing hunting expos while keeping that tight-knit culture alive The rise of vendor participation and what it says about the strength of our community The power of Sheep Hunter University and education for new hunters We also dive into: Innovative gear like XO and why quality matters Why supporting vendors at expos keeps this industry alive The excitement of raffles and show-only opportunities How 3D scanning technology is changing the way hunters preserve memories The brotherhood that comes from shared mountain experiences Kyle brings perspective, passion, and a no-nonsense commitment to conservation. This one isn’t just about sheep — it’s about stewardship, culture, and keeping the fire burning for the next generation. If you care about the future of hunting in BC, this episode hits heavy. Community. Conservation. Authenticity. Brotherhood. That’s Episode 081. Come Out Heavy. 🐏 Guest: Wild Sheep Society of BC CEO Kyle Stelter
