EMG is overwhelmingly a breath of fresh air, but you really crossed a horrible line in the last episode and need to make a public apology. Kim said “it shouldn’t be confusing: if you think you’re being abused, you are.” Kim, this is judgmental, condescending, offensive and naive. I hope you are never put in the position to learn from experience, but denial is a major component of a domestic violence victim’s psychological profile. It is a crippling blindspot that exacerbates the victim’s ability to help herself. I speak from experience. My ex husband with two Ivy League degrees and a fancy finance job was involuntarily hospitalized after chronic violence toward me over a period of *years*. This is a scourge that affects all socioeconomic, generational, racial, and professional sectors. With my own Ivy league and graduate degrees, I could not see it from the inside. I am fully capable of understanding things that “should not be confusing”; you are resoundingly wrong to describe intimate partner abuse in this way. Denial is a byproduct of abuse, and this denial impairs the victim’s ability to identify abusive behavior. This is commonplace and a known complication of women in this unfortunate situation. Your comment — coupled with the exasperated tone in which you delivered it — will actively discourage survivors thinking of speaking out or leaving. Your comment belittles victims’ intelligence and works in tandem with their existing denial to minimize or dismiss the abuse, dissuading victims (already fearful of public reprobation) from reaching out. Your remark requires a public apology, not only for the victims who will be directly discouraged by your words from extracting themselves from abusive relationships, but for the follow-on damage that will occur each time a listener repeats your judgmental and inaccurate comments. Before you condemn abuse victims to being unable to asses that which “should not be confusing,” please clear up your own confusion by reading up on the role of denial in intimate partner violence. Maybe you could do a segment clearing up the misconceptions you — and no doubt others — you are laboring under.

I discovered Excuse My Grandma a few months ago. Definitely one of my favorites!! I absolutely love hearing viewpoints and life experiences from two different perspectives. I live in the south, but frequently visit NYC, so I completely appreciate all the content. My favorite thing about the show is the healthy communication between two family members (who adore each other) and sometimes see life differently. Keep up the good work!

This classy duo continues to be a breath of fresh air bringing back much needed wholesome family values, social etiquette, and lighthearted humor. Grandma is the voice of historical, polite standards that desperately NEED to return to our society. Kim is the voice of eye opening societal change and the evolution of culture. Yet, they both listen and intelligently articulate facts and opinions, respectfully disagree occasionally and love each other unconditionally. They truly need to be appointed America’s Grandma & Granddaughter as ambassadors returning respect and manners for all people to our country. Just amazing human beings! ❤️
